Always thought he was a thug. Now getting caught robbing a bank shows his true colors.

Plus he was arrested before for threatening an employee of a bar with gun, and was shot himself 5 times when in HS.

You think he might want to make a few changes in his life.

Don't feel sorry for him, he had many opportunities in life other's may not have had to get out of the thug/gangsta life, and he threw it away.

Have fun in jail.

Too bad for the guy. He averaged a double double his senior year, and should have been able to hook on somewhere overseas, where muscle is scarcer. His talent gave him a shot at a better life, but it didn't happen. Thanks to TD Irish for showing his usual class and reminding us about Rashod Kent. Bet you don't troll nearly as many boards as that old The Nova guy used to before he was outed.

Wasn't he the one that shoved down Dane miller at the end of one game?

I know Pope head-butted the 6'2" Carter in one game, but always steered clear of Austin Johnson who would break Pope in half. Pope should've been tossed but the Big East refs jerked us around, again.

Kent has turned his life around...making good things happen.

Second chances are beautiful things when utilized correctly...
Some people don't want to know things like that, only want to use the bad to make a point
Thanks for the update on Rashod, maybe TDIrish27 will think twice before bringing up old news that puts RU or an ex player down and take the time to find out if that person changed before using him to make someone else look better.

Same can be said for bringing up a guy who played 5 years ago for The Hall just because the poster is envious of their success.

And pope was never suspended for punch right because Gonzalez was fired?

Pope always was a thug. He leveled Dane Miller in the last second of a game that SHU had the game wrapped up when Dane tried to dunk the ball. Dane could have been seriously hurt. A couple years later he head butted Eli Carter. The last one was when he punched the guy in the nuts in a first round NIT game. Pope was never punished at all by SHU for any of these actions. The guy almost died a couple of times but still never learned his lesson.

Is that right? Good to hear. I had a ton of respect for the way he played, and was really disappointed when he went of the tracks. But you're right, seconds chances are a real thing, and can be utilized properly.

Herb Pope still has a lot of years ahead of himself, so hopefully he can get his stuff together, but things like this don't make it any easier.

TD does make a fair point.

Herb is a very troubled person with a severe alcohol addiction. Gonzo took a chance on Pope and he caused SHU major embarrassments, which is one of the big reasons Gonzo was fired. I hope he gets his life together before it's too late.

Yeah sure-----like there would be a Herb Pope thread if the Hall was 13-15 .

Yes there would be a Herb Pope thread here if SHU was 13-15 or had our record. And if something happened to one of our players there would be a thread on their message board. Not sure why you would think otherwise.

Herb was never punished by SHU because a few months later he suffered a cardiac arrest and was revived by the coaching staff. I believe he was in a coma, had surgery and spent a few months in the hospital. By the fall when he was miraculously cleared to play basketball, the entire nut punch incident was forgotten.

I agree----you just never would have seen it mentioned if the Hall wasn't NCAA bound and RU wasn't having the season they've had.

Hope he gets 20 .

I don't post a lot on the hoops board but there is absolutely zero doubt that there would be a pope thread regardless of your record. Bizarre that you'd think otherwise. He antics were despised when he played against us

It's unfortunate to see how much joy some of you take in another's misfortune. Herb, like many college basketball players, comes from a background none of you (mostly) caucasian fans could ever imagine. I don't care what any one of you say, your upbringing was significantly better than Herb's or Herve's. Maybe he's a thug. Maybe he is a product of his unfortunate circumstances.

And that gives you the right to act small and petty?

Seriously, Batts? After the drumfire of virulent, hate-filled anti-RU garbage posted on your board by numerous veteran SHU posters when we were conference mates? The few good guys like Source were nearly as scarce as hairs on Mr Clean's head. Go back and check your archives. To be fair, we had a few haters also, but not near as many.

So then his background prevents him from knowing the difference between right and wrong. Got it.

Clearly a case of mistaken identity; was someone else 6-8/6-9 the perpetrated this robbery

Those people who make excuses sound like that kid who used "affluenza" as the excuse.

I don't care where you are from or what your background is. It's never an acceptable excuse to rob people at gunpoint.

PeopLe should be ashamed foe insinuating such. Real low grade thought process.

Miller tried to jam in garbage time and Pope didn't let him. Herb has had a drinking problem for years. People saw him earlier this year and said he seemed happy and content. But I guess that was short lived.
