If they make that call at the end of the year last year, they have Urban Meyer and are on their way to back to winning football.

Which was the move everyone and their dog thought they would make. Who is their #1 target now. James Franklin? Jack Del Rio?

I’m hoping for the fewest number of “blue blood” vacancies this year as we need the least amount of competition to find our best option.

Amazing how when we look at those names as possible USC coaches the mindset is "Yeah I can see that."

When those same names are presented as Nebraska's head coach (if Frost were let go) the mindset is "No way, why would they ever come here?"

USC going big boy here. Helton has a $20 million buyout on his contract, just like Frost. USC has significantly less Revenue than Nebraska too. Props to USC for finally wanting to try and win again.

What, you mean a $20M buyout isn't a reason to not make a coaching change? Of course not.

USC will go after bigger names than Nebraska will. We don't want to be competing for the same names since USC would get those over us.

I’m sure they’ll just ask KSU’s coach to name his price

I would say that the living in Lincoln isn't any worse than Penn St. location.

If USC will be going after bigger names than Nebraska then we wouldn't be competing for the same names.

We should be able to offer more $ than USC, hands down.

Man, if Williams does a great job they should keep him as the HC. That guy will recruit at that school like Pete did.

Well that didn't take long. I don't get the timing. If you're going to fire him, then do it at the end of last season or at the end of this season. Firing a coach after the first few of games of a new season just doesn't make sense to me.

This will help ease the in-season firing of Frost if things go south pretty quickly after Oklahoma.

When I made my list of coaching names to discuss, I made sure to look at what they run for schemes first, then I went to their coaching history and kept off the obvious ones that wouldn't be coming to Nebraska.

I think the list I put together is pretty dang good and it doesn't have us competing for the same names as USC will be going after.

They get the first shot at the KSU coach

Well at this point, there is no downside and more upside as they can get ahead work on a new coach.

USC is trying to get ahead of everyone else. That early firing method can backfire if they’re not careful.

My personal top pick would be Tony Elliott if you can convince him to leave Dabo’s staff, which is incredibly tight-knit. Native Californian and only 41 years old, also has won the CFP’s 2x. I could see Fickell, O’Brian too. No way they go after Fleck… I guess we’ll see how the competent the USC football office is!

Scott Frost would have to bang a drunk lady in a public bathroom stall to be fired during the season. Not going to happen.

After losing 1 game to a perennially respectable Stanford team tells me the leash was beyond short. They may have also avoided the off season firing as a savvy move to lock in the roster for this year while they have time to replace Helton instead of worrying about a mass exodus last off season.

They should still call Urban, just to see if he is having 2nd thoughts about the NFL.

Quietly make him an offer. If the Jags are 2-6 at mid season, he might call back and accept.

I just read that he is contemplating resigning from the jags, his heart just isn’t in it. What a coincidence
