You know what's weird, is that people seem to be sure Harbaugh is a dead man walking after his crap start.
But I don't think anyone thinks James Franklin will get axed? Despite a worse start (W/Ls-wise)

Franklin has been at PSU for 7 years, and has a 67% win record
Harbaugh has been at UM for 6, and has a 69% win record.
Franklin has won the B10, and has a 3-6 bowl record.
Harbaugh has not, and has a 1-5 bowl record.
Franklin is not annoying.
Harbaugh IS Annoying with a capital "A".

Wonder if ADs are just going to assume 2020 is a huge asterisk, and not fire like crazy. Although tell that to Will Muschamp.

I'm not sure what is going on with Harbaugh, but if they are thinking of replacing Franklin they are idiots. He's done decent at PSU and this is a weird year. Especially in this day and age if you at least have the chance to contend you better stay put with your coach. No reason to even consider canning Franklin in my eyes.

One of the differences is that Michigan fans expect more than most other B1G teams with the possible exception of Ohio State.

I think fans of Michigan and PSU will complain about their coaches, but neither is getting fired. Harbaugh may decide to go back to the NFL, but that is another story.

Harbaugh needs to beat Ohio State at some point. It wouldn't surprise me to see him take another job and resign rather than be fired.

Michigan is in the same spot we are but with way more talent. Blue blood program, nobody can really explain why they aren't better. I'm absolutely shocked by how bad they are.

My suspicion is that Jim only knows WCO and pro-style play and he's a square peg in a round hole trying to recruit and execute spread offense. He needed to do his thing and get that Stanford offense going. Big sets, lots of run game, PA off that.

And stop me if you've heard this one before, but his fan base with lofty expectations didn't have the patience to wait for him to get players at RB and QB who could excel at that. They wanted the OC fired, change the system, up the tempo, points points points.

He tried this in his first few years at Michigan. It failed horribly because it's just too outdated. You're never going to beat OSU that way.

Don't like Harbaugh but he has been unable to stack up against Ohio State. Just like everyone else.

Does the NFL even want him? He's got a reputation for wearing people out. This Michigan performance has damaged his stock a lot

Harbaugh and Michigan DID beat Ohio State that one year... but the refs gave Ohio State a first down on 4th down when they were clearly short. I think his tenure would look a lot different if he had that one win against Ohio State. I wouldn't fire him.... he's done pretty well. I doubt they want to go back to the RichRod or Brady Hoke days.

While I would be happy if Penn State never won another game, this is really the first season Franklin has fallen short of expectations. Different story for Harbaugh.

PSU was nearly dead. Franklin put them back on the map quickly. This is a strange year, especially for him. PSU will give him a mulligan or two.

As long as the recruiting stays strong at UM, they will keep Jimmy. Unless Jimmy wants to leave on his own accord.

The 0-fer versus dynasty level Ohio State is a blow for Harbaugh, but he's also only 3-3 versus Michigan State during a span Michigan State finished or will finish unranked 4 of 6 seasons.

If you fire every coach because he can't beat a rival early in his career you're firing guys like TO, but Harbaugh's not winning most of the games Michigan wants to win and now they're losing ugly. The only thing that may save him is 2020 being 2020 and the UM administration giving him a mulligan because they're probably losing three more games this season if they play their full schedule + championship week and will finish with a worse record than Penn State by at least a couple games.

I think Harbaugh has too quirky of a personality to motivate today's kids. Watching their game against Wisconsin I just didn't get the impression the Michigan kids were playing with any passion.

My best guess is that Harbaugh is going to escape to a head coaching job in the NFL after this season is over and that's how the Michigan "crisis" ends.

I wonder if the normal hair trigger firings we usually see will be neutered because these athletic departments will be so cash strapped with the lack of 2020 revenue, that they won't be able to stomach the massive buyouts?

They won't stop but I think they'll be fewer and more subdued this year then the past few years.

I remember back in 1999/2000 when we would go to computer labs and try out all those space age search engines. There were 20 or so we were to try out. Now there are 2 or 3 used nowadays.

James is fun

Jim can't beat MSU or OSU
James took over a program that everyone thought would never ever be good again (This was stupid, by the way)

If Jim gets a shot at an NFL job he will walk. He wears out his welcome where ever he goes. I think Jim is a salesman that gets everyone to buy in, but then people figure how damn weird he is and his act wears out really fast. He won't let them fire him, he will walk and if this season continues to tank he is gone at the end of the year. Just not sure if there is an NFL team that will roll the dice on him.

He has under performed at Michigan to date, but he has a pretty great resume overall. He will absolutely get a job in the NFL if he wants one. This year or next, but he will get one, IF, that"s what he wants.

I think he's in that purgatory now where they can't commit to something long enough to get the right guys to run it and get good at doing it. Eventually you lose faith in the whole process. They look like a team that has quit on everything.

I would blame it on the defense. Don Brown's scheme has been exposed, but he has done nothing to change it.

Nebraska's scheme looks fine to me. Michigan's is too dependent on their corners playing man coverage. You just can't ask that of your corners in college football.

The connected wealthy Alumni wont force it and the AD won't do it.

I believe his contract is up next year.

He may gracefully exit for the NFL at the end of this season if they work it out behind the scenes.

In the end the choice will be Harbaugh's.

The football culture at Michigan is gutless.

Word is that Harbaugh's meltdown during that game earn him a talking to from Jim Sr. who informed him that Harbaughs do not behave thus.

He hasn't been the same since.
