Iowa was an underdog to Washington,on the road, short week,West coast, Washington ranked in top 20 at start of season, ahead of hawks....not tough enough?
Heck also drove the team down the field for td vs #5 OSU....not tough enough?

I guess heck has to prove it vs Seattle seahawks to pass muster?
They’re 0-3 in the big ten and struggled in every non conference game. They’re terrible. I don’t care what their preseason ranking was, that doesn’t magically make them not suck. Will be lucky to get 5 wins this year. And you’re correct, I don’t care about 5 passes in garbage time against OSU.

We don’t coach our QBs to scramble or even “take what you can get when nothing is there.”

Hank looked like he’s capable.

Hecklinski? Zero rushing statistics this past game. How is that even possible?? B/c Iowa…..
QBs that scramble get hurt.
This weekend UCLA, Illinois,Oregon, Washington, iowa ...all had #1 QBs hurt....that's just the BIG...
Heck needs to avoid contact

Do you even watch the games?
Accuracy in passes is critical.
Heck has been very accurate vs OSU and Washington.
Hank ? Not so much.

They also, quite often, DON’T get hurt.

Iowa doesn’t (and never does sans CJ Beathard) have a quarterback we can’t go without b/c we don’t ask them to do much as it is. Use. The. Legs.

He also had all day to pass so there was no reason to run. Hank we’ve seen multiple times when the play is not there just chuck it away. I’d love to see our QB’s try to extend plays when possible.

Coaches will flat out tell you that a QB controversy is their worst nightmare.

So what do fans do, of course? Try to create and fuel QB controversies at every opportunity. Just brilliant.

Here, I'll help you with the answer....Support whoever the staff decides to put out there! This team doesn't need any of your ****

I know you're a brilliant football mind, but I just wanted to point out that it is perfectly ok for fans to discuss the teams' quarterbacks and even have a preference for one over another....yet STILL support whichever QB is actually playing. I don't know a single Iowa fan who was hoping that Hank would fail against Michigan or that Heck would fail against Washington. There is such thing as being a really big and good fan of a team without having to fellate the head coach and having no opinion of your own about the team's players and management.

Sure it's possible for fans to have their own opinion, yet still support staff decisions.

The problem is, many won't be supportive. They will complain the entire time, and post their complaints to a large group of Hawkeye fans online.

I do happen to have an opinion of my own. But I have no interest in contributing to a QB controversy. Pretty much common sense to those who are team players

So you're saying that any fan that wants to discuss the Iowa QB situation and voices their opinion on the matter is not being supportive and their actions are detrimental to the team and program? That's weird. Keep in mind that it's not the fans' fault that the team didn't have a clear QB1 coming into the season.

Just exactly what are we allowed to discuss on message boards like this that is acceptable to you as a poster-boy fan? And which of the thousands of fan bases in the world act exactly like they should according to you?

None of this means a darn thing.

It's real simple.

Don't contribute to QB controversies. And support whoever is on the field

Hilarious that you think staying out of QB conversations on this board helps the team and make you an awesome fan. LOL
Hilarious that you can't seem to understand something very simple.

I'll tell you what doesn't help the team.

And I shouldn't have to. How many coaches have you heard say a qb controversy is their worst nightmare?

Hello?....Don't stoke qb controversies

Again, not the fans' fault that Iowa doesn't have a QB1 head and shoulders above QB2. The coaches knew what they were getting into, so this whole thing is on them. Now the QB situation is the hottest topic of discussion, but you think fans should just not talk about it and give their opinions because it night hurt the coaches' feelings. You must have been one pvssy of a Pop Warner coach.

Again, having 2 QBs that are close has nothing to do with fans having a choice of how to behave.

And nowhere have I said anything about coaches' feelings getting hurt.

It's really sad that fans like you feel the need to fight stuff like this. Stop being so damn dense or defensive, or whatever it is, and take some accountability for how you behave as fans.

Honestly, that's the saddest part about this board. The inability of people to simply be an adult. Sports fans are widely know as some of the most irrational people on earth. But having a couple of those irrational behaviors pointed out, gets received like a foreign language on this board. NEVER does anyone own up to a thing. It's sad. Grow up, people

What do you mean by "fans like you" and what am I fighting? And answer all my previous questions that you've avoided.

There are a few extremists here, but for the most part the sports discussion on this board is pretty good. You seem to be the only one who has a problem with it, so maybe the problem is you.

Evidently, you either don't understand that football coaches don't want a qb controversy to be anywhere near their team.

Or you refuse to accept accountability for how fan behavior can contribute to a qb controversy.

That's what the term "controversy" is referring to. As in, amongst the fans and media. And guess what. Coaches and a football team want no part of it

I'd agree. Both guys have had enough moments to give fuel to the discussion about their being favored. Its only the few who say there's clearly NO question who should be the guy. The quality of the teams each has played against to this point has to be part of the discussion. Heck certainly added some evidence in his favor on Friday. Still the fact that both guys have had issues with being inconsistent at times over the past 9 months leads to the ongoing debate.

If you didn't have one of the parties on ignore, you might have a clue about the nature of the conversation you've butted into

I like Heck, but he's getting the benefit of having that performance against one of the worst coached defenses Iowa has played against in a long time.

All three of his td passes were to receivers so open that any Qb on the roster could have completed them.

It was really bizarre. At least statistically, I thought UW was going to be a good challenge on that side of the ball but they were atrocious against us. It was a well called game by Lester though.

I don't have a dog in this fight, I am fine with the coaches determining who is the best player to start, but I see it the same way as you. While Heck certainly played well v. Washington, he also wasn't facing a defense as good as say, OSU.

It's hard to make direct comparisons when they quality of the opponent varies so widely. That said, it was great to see a great IA rushing attack and balls being thrown downfield too.

I don't think either is going to wow anybody on a consistent basis. At Iowa it matters a lot more who can hit a wide open receiver on a check down. Based on just the last 2 games that clearly favors Hecklinski.

Neither guy has proven themselves as a runner. Gronowski was obviously great at it, but a so-so passer, though he did better with that down the stretch. My preference would always be to have someone who can do both, much like C.J. Beathard, when he was healthy.

I think most of the teams that advance in the CFP are teams that have guys that are good passers and capable chain moving running QB's when things break down.

I would prefer Hecklinski at this point in time, but not going to lose any sleep over it. And I fully expect Brown to start at Minnesota, because that's who Kirk has proven to be. We shall see I guess.
