Any chance these guys could be interested in coming back to RU once Cleveland's horrible season ends? They both were at Pitt as well and were very good recruiters.

No.

The head coach should be your best recruiter. The assistant coaches should be developing the players.

We need to start fresh and move on from the past.

I wouldn't mind having Hafley back. He seemed to be an excellent recruiter and he certainly had contacts and knew NJ well.

At what position? I wouldn't think they'd come back as position coaches. RU already has their OC. Would Ash want Hafley as DC and would Hafley want to come back to college? They both were in a different place in their careers when they were here. Times have changed. Finally there's always the $ thing.

No way at this point in Hafley's career does he come back to only be a DB coach in college. Co-DC at the very least.

Agree, we should start fresh, however, I don't agree with your assessment about the assistant coaches' ability to recruit.. They should be very solid to great recruiters, in my humble opinion, is there the guys out there in the field meeting most of these kids the first or second time, and the head coach needs to be a great "closer."

This again. The speculation about what Coach Hafs would or wouldn't do is hilarious.

the best recruiters are the assistant coaches, they usually develop the relationship with the recruit, but the head coach better be able to seal the deal once the recruit is on campus

Agree. Look at any program with great recruiting and there's an assistant putting the exclamation point on selling the school. The only question about Hafley is his fit outside of recruiting. RU's best recruiting of all time, or at least the last 25 years, came when he and Schiano worked as a team.

Do some people think that only the HC does recruiting? Even if he wanted to, I think it would be virtually impossible with all of the other duties a HC has.
Besides, if you are a lineman, wouldn't you want to meet the guy who will be your primary coach? Same for all of the other positions.
I do agree that the HC should be one to button it up though.

The head coach should be the closer while the assistant coaches are responsible for a location/state as a primary focus in attracting initial interest.Rutgers has to out work the competition to have any chance for success in recruiting and performance on the field.

You have any idea what you are talking about? The best recruiters in college football are not HC.

You know, I always heard this about him... then he went on to spend four years in the NFL as a secondary coach in some capacity.
Same reason Wanny always seems to find new NFL jobs. They're charismatic people persons with good resumes. In Hafley's case, he got let in the door by Schiano when he had no business to be. But once you're in, it's easy to stay in. Jobs are always opening and closing.

Actually, he got let in the door by Wanny, who recommended him to Schiano. And now, he has built a network of coaching contacts from his days at Albany all the way to Cleveland.

The past is the past move on already it is not going to happen today, tomorrow or in the future. There's a new sheriff in town and he's bringing in his OWN team it's not real difficult to follow

Saw it on the Round Table a couple weeks ago. Around the time Ash was first mentioned as a candidate.
And that's why I don't buy the round table. I know Jeff personally. They are just throwing stuff against the wall with this.

I've always thought there should be an additional board rule:

If you start a thread about somebody and can't be bothered to spell their name correctly, the thread gets deleted.
