Everyone always repeats the old saying "Tubby is a good man." But, is he really any better of a man than anyone else? What exactly has he done that makes him this saint that people seem to think he is?

I'm not saying he isn't a good man, I'm just saying, I think people only say that to preface that he sucks at his job. Like saying a fat girl has a pretty face instead of calling her a fat ***.

- Listened to Drew Deener for the first time in a long time yesterday...what a small... market buffoon. But to completely close your mind to the outside world is incredibly short.... Get out a little. Open your eyes. A lot happens outside of our small... million man metropolis.

Whether intended or not you did a marvelous job of summing up that smarmy midgets general attitude. Short man disease to the millionth degree, the ankle biter of broadcasters if you will. A real stain on the St X community IMO.

-73, the lass and I did a "baby moon" in San Diego last August for a week and I have never felt like I was in such a surreal place. It was the first time I've been to Southern California. I couldn't live in LA but if I had the means I would live in San Diego in a heartbeat. The entire lifestyle and mentality seems like an alternate universe. Laid back. Everyone is super active. Eveything revolved around being outdoors non stop. So much to do. There was also a supreme amount of patriotism in San Diego with the Naval Base, Navy Seals Training, Miramar Air Force Base (top gun) all in the area. Thought the San Diego people were very friendly although the people from LA staying at our resort were ******** for the most part. All of them seemed super uptight and intense. Almost like tan New Yorkers without the accent.

Del Mar was something out of a movie. Horse racing on the edge of the Pacific Ocean with the mountains to the East.

The food scene was awesome with the Mexican influx.. Old Town. I really liked Little Italy. The seafood dining options in an outdoor setting were awesome.

Baking in the 75 degree sun but not sweating because of the lack of humidity.

That place just doesn't seem real. I totally get why people go out there and don't come back.

I've been following the Theranos story for sometime and its pretty crazy how the investors around there just threw money at this wannabe Steve Jobs chick when her whole company turned out to be smoke and mirrors.

Yes compared to most in this profession, Tubby is a really solid, humble dude.

That and media bias have helped him as much as anyone.

- The lighting is just different in SoCal- the way the sun hits and the shadowing it produces. Can't describe it. That as much as anything contributes to the vibe. Intoxicating place. And definitely has that chill vibe Richie describes.

- What are some unique color combinations for jerseys you like? I always appreciated Loyola Marymount's maroon/light blue digs. Don't see that combo very often. Also like Wyoming's brown and gold. Fits the Cowboys theme.

- Rhinegeist is giving us 10 drafts on tap for the wedding. :flushed:

TBH the skyrocketing prices are causing me to slow down with that option. Hoping they fall back some after next school year because I don't think I can get our house ready for sale, sold, and have something picked out and ready in another state all in one summer while maintaining sanity and working a full time job.

I've considered giving it a try though and just heading south with money in the bank and renting until I find something she is happy with or that I can fix up and gain equity.

-Chad nailed it. Granted, a few really bad eggs (Pitino) give the profession a horrible name, but Tubby is a stand up guy. I'm like 8 years past the bashing. He brought us one of my favorite runs and my first in person title.

-I know it's a little fools gold but the Red Legs are smoldering. Fun to watch. Hustling down the line. Young talent everywhere. Long way to go with current competition in the central but at least I'm not watching Bruce/Phillips out there.

-The dude should've got off the plane but United handled their portion about as poorly as imaginable. People want to feel safe on a plane. If the dude won't get up then you threaten to deboard the rest of the plane. At that point no more cameras and the crowd turns from supporting him to being pissed at him. No story. Regardless, never a good idea to make a scene ON an airplane. Last time Delta dropped the ball on us we stayed cool, rolled with the punches, I spent 30 minutes Monday on the phone $400 in refunds, 12,000 points and $500 vouchers.

-So 2 year olds are... fun. :grimace::weary::smiley::mad:o_O:D Within 5 minutes you can really just experience every extreme emotion. George is currently very found for slinging food rather than eating it. He really like to throw it at you while you're cleaning up whatever he launched seconds before. 2 days ago I was convinced he's possessed. He was balling his eyes out, eating, getting up petting and hugging the cats, evil cackling, giving me a hug then punching clyde in the head OR grabbing a hand full of clyde's fur and eating it. o_Oo_O He just did this on rotation for 20-30 minutes.

We rented for a few months and other than moving a house twice, it worked out well. There are still good foreclosures to buy if you want to go that route. I would draw a line at Race Track Rd (which one side is Duval and the south side is St Johns) and look from there down to World of Golf. Probably 20+ new developments and areas like Julington Creek, which is already developed.

One thing easy to take for granted is the manner in which these kids leave the program. Always saying the exact right things, thanking BBN, praising UK and the staff.

There's great PR in everything Cal and his players do and say. I'm sure the kids get help with their statements, but still, they are always genuine, personal and sincere. Even the few who transfer out.

Plus the fact that we NEVER hear about any disciplinary issues or kids not attending class once the season is over.

Credit to Cal on all of that. Plus, as he has said, he / UK can afford to choose to only take great kids.

Very refreshing to have unity of message, no drama, no disciplinary issues.

After moving to Tampa/Largo, any place that has "20+ new developments" sounds awful. Total suburbia with neighborhoods on neighborhoods on neighborhoods just doesn't do anything for me.

Tubby is indeed a class dude but for a greater part of his run he sure had his fair share of knucklehead punks.

Yes, kudos, to Cal for not putting up with that ********. Eveything is planned out to the greatest detail with our players now and he also protects them and makes certain they're insulated from exposing themselves to stupid situations. We've had what 2 dumb moments with these kids in the last 8 years? Willis last summer and I guess the Terence Jones and Stacey Poole car accident situation in November 2011?

Nothing says professional like 2.8 points and 2.8 rebounds on a team that could've really used another good big guy.

To be clear, I'm not saying he isn't a great guy. Just that it seems like a token compliment before the person then proceeds to **** on his coaching/recruiting ability.

You guys keep saying he's a stand-up guy, he's a good guy, etc... But I've never heard examples of what exactly makes him those things. It seems like a generalization that has turned into a fact for the general public.

Did Tubby act like Nerlens or Marcus Pee? Did he give his socks to some kid like Karl Towns did?

I guess letting an entire team smoke weed every day and do whatever the hell they wanted makes him pretty laid back as an authority figure. I'm sure those guys thought he was a good guy.

WS and I were walking through BB Kings and he was seated obscurely watching the show. WS wants to take a picture with him and one of his people are like, "no, the coach doesn't want to be bothered." Understandable because he just lost in the 2nd round of the SECT. (damnit) Tubby cuts the dude off, invites us over, takes a picture and chats with us for a few minutes. All the the coaches do the charitable stuff but that shows genuine character, imo. The little things. Other than that, several local people we know were friends with him and I've never heard a bad word. Lazy recruiter? Absolutely. Jay Williams story is all you ever need to know on that front.

There are still a couple of functioning Tubby Smith Clubhouses in Lexington. Not sure how involved he is in keeping those up, but they keep kids off the streets or at least limit them to loitering on the adjacent sidewalks.

Just keep raising the offer until someone accepts and departs the plane. Capping at a grand is the problem. Paying 2-4k and never having this issue beats the hell out of all the legal costs and bad PR headed their way.

Looking forward to hopping a United bird next month for no other reason than because it ports at a spot with one of the Chase Priority Lounges.
