At trivia tonight we had a question, how many titles combined do U.K. UCLA UNC Duke and UCONN have.
I looked it up though and Wikipedia said the UNC title from '24 was retroactively made into an NCAA title. Is that correct or just some UNC bs?
This is the very issue over which I got into a bar argument in San Antonio after the Saturday games in 1998, in which a UNC fan tried to tell me they had 4 (at that time), and resulted in the research that turned into a 150 question Quiz that displays the Facts Behind the Myth that is UNC basketball.
UNC fans are indoctrinated to believe the 1924 title is real, at a very young age. But it's nothing more than a Helms, which they claim as a "national" (READ: NOT NCAA) title.
Also, did you know that the Helms title was named after a bakery, which sponsored the whole thing, and for most of its existence, the "Helms committee" consisted of one dude retroactively handing out "national titles"?
I could go on forever, but go to Jon Scott's site for more info on all of this.*
*And then go back to being a ***.
