Still hitting my old Callaway X14's. (do not play nearly enough anymore to warrant new sticks) For the golf experts, I need new grips, what is the go to grip ?? I want those sponge ones, think maybe Lamkin ?? I know Golf Pride has some, but what do GYERO ballers go with ??

Would pay Masters type ticket money to see a 18 hole winner take all, BBDK / Barry Slice match.

A guy like T. Boone will treat it like owning a team, IMO. Again, I don't really care, and I'm not offering a better solution, but it will be a GD shitshow. I think it's very naive to think otherwise.

*And yes, there is competitive balance now compared to how it would be if there were endorsements allowed. This is blatantly obvious and I won't spend more time arguing about it.

So much competitive balance that the schools who make the most money and have the nicest facilities get the best recruits and win all of the titles. Can you imagine if they paid players?!?! Alabama and Ohio State would always win in football and schools like Kentucky and Illinois wouldn't stand a chance! Very much the opposite of what happens now [eyeroll]

You're an idiot Transy. Review the Final Four and NCAA tournament the last 10 years or so. Winning a title isn't the only measure of competitive balance.

The best players already go to the same schools who would be paying the most, momo. Small teams without the best players would still be competitive, because they are competitive now.

I'm assuming, much like there already is, regulations would be put into place to monitor it. If companies are paying, especially public companies, then you'll have actual records. I actually think it would have the opposite effect and clean a lot of the fringe nastiness up. The players will have agents that are regulated to keep things in line and a lot of the under the table stuff ends. Only now you're paying the people generating the revenue. If T Boone wants to pay some kid 500k to advertise wind mills, Why the hell do I care? At least the kid is getting paid rather than just running around the court with Nike/UA logos all over his body, in an arena plastered wall to wall with corporate sponsors, and on a channel with 87 "media" timeouts for commercials.

Figuring out how to pay them seems much less dirty than what we currently have. Not paying them is despicable.

Can you guys imagine if UNC* was allowed to pay recruits? They would consistently bring in top 5 classes, no doubt

Can you imagine what that would do to schools like Villanova*? They might get one top notch player every few years, but could only afford guys they had to develop

Would certainly be a bloodbath if those teams had to play. Pretty unfair, honestly

*Kentucky and Wisconsin could be swapped here

If the players don't like that setup then go to Europe or China and play there. Or go to trade school and do something besides basketball and football. You know like the rest of society.

No takeback policy on scholarships to me is a bigger deal. If you get offered an athletic scholarship it should be good for 4 years as long as the player stays academically eligible.

The T Boone Pickenseses of the world may indeed make a mockery of the situation, but it will be no bigger of a sham than what's currently being offered, where fat old rich white men have built a monopoly of exploiting underprivileged black youth under the guise of "getting an education."

For the typical athlete, this won't change much. He'll trade his services for a free education, which will always be an awesome deal. For the superstar talents like a John Wall, they'll remove the veil of amateurism and earn the money they're rightfully due. It's a win win.

NCAA will make over a billion on the NCAAT alone. UK gets 20 Million from the SEC every year from a TV deal. A :30 commercial in a UK game is $20,000 and you have a hard time finding them. Cal/Saban/Pitino etc make like 7 million dollars a year.

Yet we pawn it off on a free education when we all know they're being used as a marketing tool.

This has been a business since the shoe companies stepped in back in the 80's. To think otherwise is silly.

So yes, despicable is a perfect word for it.

Exactly. It levels the playing field in some respects.

- Look what Phil Knight did for Oregon. Schools with lots of money, but natural disadvantages will be helped immensely.

- And I'm sure '73 would gladly work for benefits only. No paycheck, but they will pay your rent and buy you 2 meals a day, and completely arbitrarily set the price of your training at $800k. Wow, what a deal you'd be getting!

-Feel bad for Avery Johnson losing Ferguson, that dude is BUTTER. Would definitely rather add him than Bolden...best shooter in the class, and 6'7" -- love that kid's game.

If they don't change the rules someone will eventually figure this out. They've tried a few times already. Something like that Las Vegas league gets 1 or 2 kids like Ben Simmons, who have no interest in college, to sign on for a nice chunk... watch out. Thankfully the guy running that league was corrupt and an idiot.

I trust Cal and all, but I'm getting a bit of a "Roy Williams problem with the Cliftons" vibe from his dealing with that Texas program. It kept us out of the Ferguson derby- who would be perfect for us. And it's keeping us away from Billy Preston, who we would probably have a great shot at, as well as Trevon Duvall. I'm sure he has good reasons, but...

Defending the current NCAA model is the contrarian take and puts you in the side of Mike Golic. I mean sure in the theory of unlimited and unrealized gains the free education makes sense but in the real world of party A making billions of dollars off of the talent of party B while actively working against the "free education" (see North Carolina, University of, # of chemical engineering basketball players UK's had in the last forever years) the actual reality of the situation renders your position dumber than hell.

Good news is John Petty could be our first addition to next year. 6'7 true SF, which is pretty much like a unicorn for this program over the years. A few exceptions of course...our title team just happened to have 2 of them. :grimace:

Yep- and I think Young is ours, too. Dude is a lights out shooter and a Tyus Jones type of PG. I also love Jarred Vanderbilt's game. He's another Terrence Jones/MKG type forward.

Austin is a cool town. Honestly, if you're a college kid or a young professional, I'm not sure it gets any better. And everyone we dealt with was friendly as hell. Good food, too.

And I hesitate to post this, but we stood in line for 2+ hours on Saturday for La Barbecue, the joint run by John Lewis (who used to run Franklin's). The brisket was outstanding - certainly the best I've had - but I'm not sure it's that much better than Blue Door's at its best. Which shocked the hell out of me because La Barbecue is allegedly one of the top 2 or 3 joints in town. The sausage there was great, and they were out of beef ribs (which are apparently a revelation) by the time I got to the counter, but if you stood Blue Door and La Barbecue next to each other and told me I would have to wait 2 hours for brisket at one of them, I would go to the other. Again, no one is as shocked by this as me, but I guess there's a point where barbecue can only be so good. It's also a pretty good tribute to those Blue Door guys.

The NCAA is going to eventually lose in court on the issue of limiting the kids' rights to profit from their likeness. I don't think they are ever forced to pay players a salary, but they will ultimately lose the battle over likeness. That's why they stopped making the damned video games. This is a workable solution. It isn't perfect. Nothing is. However, thinking the status quo is a long term option is a very head in the sand position to take.

I've heard great things, but I'd have a hard time putting another city above San Diego on the "American city fresh out of college" power rankings.

- So, the Reds might be fun this year. I'll take it. Will be nice liking a team.

- Put in a 10-hour drinking shift on Saturday. Bleh today. Had fun, but gotta say, I just don't get the appeal of Northside.

- I will be at Keeneland on Friday. First time in probably 3 years (not counting Breeders Cup up on the hill in October).

- No, I don't want to go watch some minor league soccer team. What level is that equivalent to? Rookie League ball? GD millennials.

- Had a 5 Guys burger yesterday and it was amazing.

- The lass and my sister are taking my mom down to Asheville for her birthday. Any recs I can pass on for a lady day and night?

- Ready to get past Cold April and onto Good April.
