That second shot was just so weird. The first one...it happens. But to chunk a shot from 100 yards??? I mean you just don't see that from pros. Just completely bizarre.

It's hard to fathom or explain. I still side with the 'Golf Happens' angle over HE CHOKED, but that's just me. That shot had infinity less pressure than at least 20 other ones he hit this week. He was on 12 w/ a huge lead, not on 18 needing a par to win.

Golf is a weird (and brutal) game.

He won't even have time to be sad before he has to fix his hair and help the man who beat him celebrate the best moment of his life in Butler Cabin, lol.

Brutal.

No. Calm down Mr in-the-moment hype man.

Jesus. :flushed:

...you should be embarrassed with that take, and I speak from a position of knowledge.

That's why I take the under on career Majors. Just last year a lot of people on the forum thought Rory and/or Jordan were certain to get 10+ or catch Tiger.

Lol. Hard to win a damn major. Some phenomenal golfers with just 1 or 2 majors. 5-6 puts you in the top 15-20 in history.

"Not in the face......right now, please, thanks"

Love seeing a pro be real for a moment! Can't even imagine the level of composure it took for that calm request.

He's 1, 1, 4, 2, and 2 in his last 5 Majors. Tied Tiger's scoring record at Augusta. And he's just 22. Besides Tiger, only multiple winner of the US Junior Amateur. But you don't think he's as good as Tiger or in the conversation? Kid is a phenom.

^ No. Just like you think Steph Curry hasn't done "****' and is overrated b/c he's only been great a few years, unlike Larry Bird. Remember? [eyeroll]

With Tiger's struggles, it's pretty easy to forget how amazing he was, and on a level unseen or likely to be seen again.

Kobe is on his way to doing the same thing on a lesser level, but thankfully for him his career ends in 3 games.

But Tiger's dominance in his prime (which was a long *** time) will never be matched in my lifetime, I feel pretty comfortable saying that. The new 'Big 3' are AMAZING, but what Tiger did for a long time really doesn't have any apt word to describe it...

You only have to look as far as Phil Mickelson, one of the best and most talented golfers EVER, who's not even close. Tom Watson with 8, another one of the GOATS. Not even close. And every other legend not named Tiger.

Tiger's # is unreal...and that's not even talking about Jack lol.

I don't think he's that level. I don't think Rory or Day are either. Rory can probably get into that 6-7 range though.

I'll tell you this though, their competition is so damn good right now.

This is how you let players share the wealth without actually paying them...

Big East commissioner Val Ackerman told SI Now’s Maggie Gray on Friday that the NCAA is reconsidering allowing student athletes to sign endorsement deals.

Under the current rules, student athletes may not be paid for the use of their image or likeness or they would forfeit their amateur status and their collegiate eligibility could be affected. When Gray asked Ackerman why students shouldn’t be able to capitalize on the value they bring to their university, Ackerman responded that the NCAA is considering changing that rule.

Let the market dictate what each individual player's worth is. It's the only fair and workable solution. If this comes about, we will see some guys staying in school longer. If Skal had a bunch of endorsements putting six figures into his pocket this season, he'd likely be back for his sophomore year to work on his game.

-Damn, Spieth lost in a heartbreaker to a f*cking Brit. Sagan got isolated early and no one would help him. How are the Reds the positive from my sports weekend?

-Least I came out slightly ahead on gambol.

-Learn April -> Forecast after tomorrow is :cool2:

-I'm all for paying college athletes. It can't be any worse than this bs we try to make ourselves feel good about now. Only corner of the universe that an adult can't be compensated for his skills.

The endorsement model is pretty much the only viable solution. It gets around all the potential legal potholes of paying a QB or men's PG, but not paying the women's PG or ace pitcher in softball. It will open up a new can of worms, like Paul Miller Ford guaranteeing deals to kids coming to play for UK basketball, but the teams that are actually competing for high level recruits- Duke, Kansas, etc. all have their own Paul Miller Fords so it evens out.

Yeah, I don't really care much about the setup. It can't be anymore morally f*cked up than the current one.

Title 9 is dumb in this application. I'd actually pay money NOT to watch women's flail around the court/field/etc clumsily. Really glad I had a son so I don't have to worry about ever being a hypocrite on this subject. Want $$? Be more entertaining or take your clothes off.

I don't really care either way, but if that is allowed it will turn into a **** show. Guys like T. Boone Pickens could open up sham businesses solely to provide an excuse to pay out a million dollar endorsement deal.

The next John Wall may be paid 500K to endorse a local pizza joint that grosses 200K per year. Pay them one year, sham business goes under, deduct endorsement contract as a loss. I'm not accountant, clearly, but even I can tell it will open the Pandora's box of shadiness.

Again, I don't really care because we'll be good anyway, but there will be zero competitive balance.

At least it will be better than acting like these guys are college students first and all is pure when they've been riding the free labor train for years. Also, this already goes on and has for decades with boosters paying for players. Why would it be more difficult to regulate than not allowing them to have any extra benefits?

1. Any other college student can be paid for whatever industry they are pursuing. 2. The NCAA, Universities and corporations already make obscene amounts off the free labor. 3. The time required for travel, media availability, practice, training is weighted put the sports first. 4. As all markets do, it will regulate. The other colleges have big money donors and would jump at corporate sponsors opportunities.

And yes, if you want to keep the mega stars around they're going to get paid. As they should.

- Well, there isn't competitive balance now and never has been

- I agree it gets around the potential Title IX stuff, but I've always felt that was just a smokescreen by universities, anyway. "Cant pay the men more than the women! It aint fair and we cant afford to pay all 2,000 student athletes so no one gets anything. FAIRNESS!" *hands Nick Saban keys to vacation house on the Moon* *hands WBB coach expired Rally's gift card*

Anyone else get a weird vibe from Mitchell? Like something isn't right with him and the program? I mean he just shows up on mags show and sings John cougar mellencamp songs without being asked and he plays in a band?? And all his girls transfer like it's going out of style? I guess what I'm saying is I get a weird feeling about him and he will be involved in a scandal before he leaves.

His Ryan Lemond, "Guy who says 'butt' a lot," impressions gives him a pass IMHO.

It's the funniest thing from KSR since the "Olde Time Baseball Report."

Don't look now, but there are all sorts of womens' college sports on tv - basketball, softball, soccer, etc. So Title IX requirements most definitely would come into play here.

Is the NCAA considering allowing athletes to sign endorsement deals and get paid from them during college? (the prior proposals I had seen required that the players wait until after college to see the money). If anything like that is implemented, you might as well start paying players too. Because the stars will earn way more in endorsement money than the schools could/would ever pay.

Also, T Boone going to pay 30+ huge endorsement deals every year to make football and basketball teams the best? Throw baseball in there as well.

No.
