Actually a bit surprised that KSR does well with college kids these days. I mean, you've got some relatively "old" hosts all things considered.
Same token, I can't imagine ever having the desire to hear someone's opinion on UK when they weren't even alive to see Jamal Mashburn play ball for the Wildcats.
TIME IS FUNNY.
The age thing is something thats on my mind a lot. The radio show isn't really designed for college kids although we do have a pretty strong core with some college guys. When we get the ratings, the 18-34 demo is always fascinating to me...for guys, it is rap, country and us....for women its just country. Thats it...sometimes we win the demo, sometimes we don't but literally no other talk show gets any ratings in that demo. When I think about it, I didnt listen to talk radio then either, except occasionally Howard Stern.
Most college kids now know me from Twitter more than anything else. When I judged Greek Sing, that was by far the thing people mentioned the most. The website still has some appeal there and they do dominate my Snapchat/Periscopes more than other age groups. But Twitter is by far the way they know KSR the best. Drew is still really popular with that age group, but it is important for us to find some new young talent. I have talked with the Barstool guys about that as well. I started the site at 27 and now it is a lot harder to relate than it was then. But the key thing is you can't try to be the "cool, old guy"...people see through that and you end up looking like Gary Parrish. Drew is 30 but still lives a life that works....my goal this summer is to find the next generation. It is hard to find though because people don't write anymore (thanks to social media).
I agree with you guys about the radio show...its better in studio than live. I like meeting the fans, but those shows are so much harder to keep entertaining than in studio. On days like today, where I was under the weather and there wasn't a lot to talk about, its even worse. But we have to do the remotes because they make a ton of money. I honestly think our best shows are where we do it from some place but we don't bring a crowd...that may be the future because it gives you the advantage of being on the road without the stress of winning over a crowd in person.
By the way, Ramsey is totally lying about this UL meeting thing...no clue why either. He is going to resign soon so why go through this whole ta-doo...as long as he didn't have a quorum, he didn't violate any law. Bizarre that he would pick this fight. But the thing is a complete dumpster fire over there right now. I probably here 25% of the gossip and some of it still blows my mind. I wish I could dump it all because people wouldn't believe it. When its all done and they start ratting on each other...it will be glorious.
