Pretty solid weekend.

Friday we went to Asian Tea Station. Allan (Owner) was having a fundraiser for the flood victims in eastern Kentucky and we all ended up getting pretty lit. He comped our meal but we all gave a hefty tip.

Ended the night on a golf cart boozing around 3 am.

Saturday: Beans pool party (Tried to get an Uber to meet up with them again but I couldn't get a ride), restaurant, booze, fire pit. Home by 11.

Sunday: Volunteered to help Norton Commons Elementary lay a ****-load of mulch. Also ripped up a bunch of sod. Sore as a mofo today. Left there, took a shower, met friends at the pool (saw Wayne), drank a bit and grilled. Finished up the night with another fire-pit. Home around 10:30.

Like most other 'country music' (or really, any mainstream genre) guys of today, Combs/Wallen/Whoever have a few really good jams (imo), and a LOT more awful ones.

Flower Shops is a TUNE, imo. That one sounds straight out of a 90s vault to me, worship.

If you lump in the southern/Texas/country Rock folks we've had some solid music coming out. Especially in the aughts. Hell, you have 3 greats from Kentucky, granted I'm not a Stapleton fan.

Pop country has been pretty bad for awhile.

The problem with any type of major pop music is that, as the "artist," you basically have to sell yourself out, throw your hands up, waive the white flag, and just kind of ask "okay, what do you want me to sing/wear/do/live/play today?"

Been that way as long as folks have been making music, basically.

Sturgill ruptured a vocal chord or something like that about a year ago. He claimed that the Legend of Dood and Juanita would be his last solo album.

Of course he also claimed about 5 years ago that he would never tour again.

- About the only mainstream country act I care for is Cody Johnson. Not sure how he's perceived at-large, but I really like some of his songs.

- The bottom line with Pitt/NCSU/Wake all being ranked ahead of Kentucky is this...Kentucky could go 9-3, even 10-2 against this schedule. But give Kentucky's schedule to those three teams, and none of them are doing better than 8-4, and are most likely going 7-5. Apples and oranges, IMO.

- One thing I'm immensely grateful for is that my kids are both teenagers, have been involved in school sports for a few years now, are involved in other activities, and yet have managed to avoid any kind of fundraiser that required them to sell stuff for at least the last several years. There have been a few event-based fundraisers, but nothing that has forced them to hit up their grandparents to pay $18 for a small clay dish that holds four tablespoons of salsa, etc.

- Always cracks me up when an MLB team plans a promotional night featuring a player's bobblehead, t-shirt, poster, etc., and then either trades or waives the player before it rolls around. The Indians Guardians are having Franmil Reyes Bobblehead Night in a month or so, and welp, they cut him and he's a Cubbie now. Enjoy those bobbleheads, kids in some far-off land.

Nashville is no longer the Nashville it's famous for. Country is pretty much dead there, save for one or two blocks, the rest consists of bars that play "Don't Stop Believin" on repeat and swarms of Nashville Woo Girls. Austin has been put on notice though.

thats unfortunately true

it's become a lot more prescriptive since the 80s though

but yeah - id agree it's (commercial success) everything you mentioned and then some

There are several horrible country artists (Florida Georgia Line for example) that I can at somewhat see their garbage appeal. I don’t know WTF Sam Hunt is supposed to be.

* My nephew, who is a weed farmer by day and a EDM DJ by night in Oregon, is coming to town for my 50th and will be performing in the Interstellar Music Festival at KY Speedway over the weekend. It is his first gig east of the Rockies.

I am not a fan of EDM, but will be there to support him until my ears bleed. Which they may. I hate that ****.

* My youngest's Fall club soccer season is about to start back up. They joined a new league. I guess having all the teams close to each other was too easy. Now we also play league games (matches?) in Dayton (OH), Columbus, and NKY. Sometimes on the same weekend.

Great touching scheduling, hoss. It's college football season. Inconsiderate pricks.

The Blanton's flask Marge got me for Father's Day will be put to heavy use this year. A little worried about the metal horse lid in my pocket. That **** could hurt if positioned incorrectly.

* Trying to figure out a way to make it down for the Miami game. I like my team.

* MattsCats, I love ya, man. But Janet on 3's Company was trash. I'd much rather play a couple of rounds of bedspread twister with Mrs. Roper. I ain't mad atcha, tho. Different strokes and what not.

-I hadn’t heard Adrian‘s new favorite country song, flower shop, so I listened to it today. Then my phone decided to roll onto the next sort of country song and it was whiskey glasses by Morgan Wallen, which I haven’t heard yet. It’s pretty terrible.

-Booker, regarding your supposed joke about swimming, KSR said today that two of the players didn’t know how to swim so someone from the swim team gave them lessons so that they can enjoy their time in the Bahamas. The whole discussion was how @MattJonesKSR doesn’t know how to swim either and he said the only way he would take lessons is one on one like that. Maybe @Bonzo Cat or @UKswimmer875 could offer their services.

-Early stopping at a yellow light that you (and I) could have made it through is ********.

-Update: next song on sort of country station is Red Dirt Clouds. Also terrible.

-What HAS happened to Nashville? I haven’t even been since March 2019 so I know I really wouldn’t recognize it now. I prefer the early 2000s Nashville. It was a good time without being what it is today. I don’t even know how to describe it.

-Next song: Highway Boys by Zach Bryan. I like this one. His voice kind of reminds me of Charlie Robinson.

-Had a nice Barolo at the neighbor’s on Friday night (family dinner, if you will). That’s the one that I like that I never buy.

-I hope world traveler @wcc31 is having a good time in the Bahamas. It sure looks like he is.
