I was really blown away with Sheppard last night, watched the entire game. Sure, it's only one game...but he did all the things, against elite competition on the biggest stage of his life to date, that have made people so fond of him the entire time.

His overall feel for the game is just next-level, and stands out immediately. He was absolutely the best player on the floor (last night). Rebounds in traffic, and He had to have had like 5 steals, as well....dude flat knows how to play, and really dominated the game w/ his overall presence. Had he not had endless blown assists (including at least 4-5 layups), he would have been 1 rebound shy of a Triple Double.

They took him out twice, and each time, the all star squad make an immediate 10 point run.

He's going to be one helluva player 3-4 year player here.

The Cupps kid going to IU is a really good player as well. Was fun watching a team of dorky white honks absolutely steam roll that squad, which had 2 top 5 players, 3 top 10, + Bronny and others.

I don't believe that will happen...he's a more passive type player (now) who just plays winning basketball...and he's gonna be on a super loaded roster of flashier young guys.

Feel like his 2nd year will be huge.

* If you were just a so-so D1 college athlete, why would you NOT go to Duke/Ivy League/Stanford/etc?

* I'm probably the worst guy on here to opine on this sort of thing, because I don't give a flying F about all those pop rappers that were listed on the last page, but....

.....the old Cal was Bronny's pseudo godfather, had WWW on speed dial, and convinced Drake to act like he was a diehard Cat fan. You could literally watch our recruiting fall off once those things ceased to be true. So yeah. Bring it on.

Shorts:

- Pumped about this 2023 class. Shep is a modern guard. Love everything about his game. Dillingham is lightning in a bottle and a good shooter. Wagner is tough. Edwards is everything you want in a modern wing - I think he’s an ideal 4 but unlike Brooks, is certainly skilled enough to be a 3.

All that said, we need some vets in the mix. Fredrick/Reeves/Ware/Kingley and hell maybe even another round of Tschibwe.

- Tell you what- feels pretty good being excited about the NFL headed into August.

- Remember how treacherously alleys were presented to youngsters in the 80s?

- Could use some “Last Chance U” right about now.

- Underrated thing about 80s/90s baseball- the “Our Guy” superstars - those guys who played with one team throughout their entire career and were one with that city. Sandberg and Chicago. Ripken and Baltimore. Puckett and Minnesota. Brett and KC. Gwynn and SD.

- Jeter Doc: Remarkably, I knew all five players drafted before Jeter, as in could give you a decent scouting report. Miss knowing that much about a particular topic.

- Taking shots has never really been about the alcohol and is only somewhat about getting drunk. It’s about the ceremony. It’s about community. That’s something BBdK, Willy, Anth and I always understood but a lot of you missed.

- Anyone else subscribe to the Field of 68 daily Substack newsletter? Terrifically formatted little primer on the day’s news in college basketball. Perfect for us 🏀s.

- “The Anarchists” docuseries on HBO is terrific. Documentarian follows a group of anarchists who move to Acapulco and form a community of expats. They all get rich on Crypto and of course attract much crazier people. Good stuff three episodes in.

- If I was a super smart kid with my choice of non-Ivy, I’m going to University of Virginia or Vanderbilt.

-fifty, wtf. Time flies gang.

-Lunch with English Jay at suggins, boring but that place never disappoints.

-Viv (prima) made bday dinner last night...fried chicken, half runners and mashed potatoes. Key lime pie for desert. Delicious

-wife set up a bday thing Saturday evening at our little club...doubles round robin/swimming pool/cupcakes. Not too shabby.

-it is Sirius xmu channel 84 szn. College football is the best. Hopefully it still exists in a few years.

^I'm gonna *bask* in the halcyon days of UK football while it lasts.

-new season of only murders on hulu is solid...as is the newest season of Endeavor on pbs/prime.

Happy birthday, hippie

Hohohoohhoi

bonus points for "halcyon"

(had to since ive - ONCE AGAIN - started meeting and conspiring w/ppl fm this site)

They were EXTREMELY impressed with the longevity of the thread....and then instantly asked me if i was annoying everyone by talking about "communism"

((noooooo dear))))

then i tried to explain the TINY POOL masterpiece fm Hort W Elvison

THAT garnered nothing but blank stares

I’m old enough to remember the propaganda about this Zelensky character being some sort of tough guy badass. ICYMI, he just took a break from supposedly fighting a war to do a sexy photo shoot for Vogue magazine.

This guy is a clown

[laughing]

He’s awful.
No difference from that and when Gen. Patton posed for Playgirl in Northern France.

The war is more nuanced than Russia bad, Ukraine good, when this is over Ukraine will be lumped in with the Saudi's, Israel and Turkey. (Not meant to be political, just giving context).
So, as a wise man or two once said, "when Bono shows up, you know the propaganda has reached its peak".
Welp, it has now really peaked with Vogue?

Stanford is really high on my irrational sports dislike list. Have really been rooting for them to somehow end up in the Mountain West/whatever when conference realignment shakes out.
I support your irrational dislike of anything.

Counterpoint: the Christmas Tree mascot is pretty cool and Richard Sherman gave us this gift.

Because having an Ivy League degree carries far less weight than it used to, and the student bodies at UK and other state schools are much nicer?
