While in NC, would also recommend checking out Forsyth Technical Community College. Been a while, but myself and fellow faculty gave the best education for the price.

In a thread full of go-getters, no one has made the leap you have, brother, Except Brady. Or CoolCat. And PTI actually got married. Huber’s a super booster and AP.com is ridiculous. Krazy some how owns bourbon nerd bourbon.

Actually, forget it. Your leap has just been one of a million instances of GYERO kingmaking. Par for the course, really.

"Forsyth Tech was briefly mentioned in President Barack Obama's 2011 State of the Union Address as an example of education reform in low-income and low-opportunity areas."

Glad they are still leading with that in recruitment handbooks.

Couple of things that some people might miss that I found interesting:

Circus Maximus - not much left of it, but as a race horsey fan, I liked seeing one of the original "tracks" if you will.

Place of Julius Caesar's assassination. Recently uncovered discovery. Wasn't really marked at all, took a bit of an effort to find it, but obviously the site of a huge event in human history. Not all that far from Colosseum.

Spanish Steps - Really neat market area and if you climb to the top, it's a pretty view. Can see St. Peter's Basilica from a distance.

The JC assassination area is awesome. Enjoyed that it wasn't crowded and just cool **** to walk around and see. There is also an awesome view IIRC up that hill in the back of that area.

More random is we saw some old city/cat factory. Just some old ruins taken over by cats.

Most is covered already for Italy. It's out of the way but Como is amazing for its sheer beauty and you can drive 20 mins to Switzerland and have a pint in a cool city there.

We also took a trip out to Munich and a train ride to see the Nueschwanstein castle. The topography of the German countryside is a notch above Louisville and its spectacular.

Really is, though. @ Florida @Ole Miss and @Tennessee the big questions but yeah having only one “sure” L is nice.
May have to dust off the “We Believe” banner for one last ride.

I’m going to really enjoy this season whether we go 7-5 or 11-1. I want to hit up Oxford for sure. Going to be fun to beat his *** this year.

You guys can hate Jeter and the Yankees, #metoo, BUT The captain and a couple old fashioneds is the perfect way to end a July night.

Love the 90’s history flashback. Totally forgot the Padres even made a World Series in my lifetime.

It’s a great documentary and I’m a lifelong Yankee-hater. Have never had an issue with Jeter. Hard guy to dislike.

For guys our age, the Yankees late 90s reemergence is one of the biggest sports stories of our lifetime.

Were you alive in '84? They made it by beating the Cubs in the NLCS. Leon Durham pulled a Bill Buckner that opened the door for the Padres.
I was 4, don’t really remember much before Kenny Skywalker or Rex Chapman, or the little blonde across the street from my South 3rd Street home by Desales/Iroquois area.

I was also 4. I too do not remember. But it did occur in our lifetime. I think the Padres got swept both times. I could be wrong about that.

So the wife approves of an “internet friend” get together.

being honest how many of you would show up in the next week or 2 on a Sunday for cookout, swim and basketball?

Not even sure how to organize something like those on old fashioned #5.

Friday Randoms...

- Oldest turned 3 on the 19th. Youngest turns 1 on 8/3. Time flies man. Will probably regret it but just decided to do a pool party at the house this Saturday. Shouldn't have more than 5-6 kids total so not concerned with huge mess clean up. Pizzas, popcicles, and cake all around.

- Mother in law down here for 17 days so the wife and I went out Wednesday night with another couple for "dinner". This turned into pre-drinks, lengthy dinner, then bar till after 11pm. Needless to say, I "worked" in bed yesterday all day.

- Have done international trips to China, Germany, Amsterdam, Rotterdamn all for work. Have done Greece for pleasure. Would love to do a 3 week trip to Spain, France, England and just do the traditional tourist spots.

- Played a non-scramble golf round for the first time in 6 years a few weeks back. 58 on the front nine. 46 on the back.

- Wife and I haven't had a true vacation since pre-Covid. Both of us are completely burnt out on everything in life...her with the kids, me with work. Looking for places to go in October. All we want to do is set on a beach and do nothing for a week. Problem is we have 2 free flights we need to use which means we have to get away from FL.

- Put me down in the pro-Toppin camp. If he plays 25-28 min at the FOUR, I could see a season where he averages 12&6 and on the all defensive team.

- Will be in the swamp the first time on 9/10. I do not seeing us lose that game. Don't know who said it in here but my biggest concern is the Secondary. Depth is light there as well from all reports.

- Haven't noticed the "no bra" trend down here yet but am all in on that. The thong trend has defintely hit here though...girls just walk in and out of restaurants with a thong bikini bottom on and will set down and eat.

- So Carolina will go 6-6. We will beat them again. They will get all the preseason pub again next year. Rinse/repeat. Beamer has Derek Dooley vibes to me.

- Flex Fridays means I'm logging off at 11am. Knock out the chore list by 1pm. In the pool by 1:10pm.

- Lexington in 5 wks.

Was just looking at our football schedule again and my gawd, it’s manageable.

I love this post
I love that we can be subtle and understated with our football confidence these days and not wildly desperate/emotive

I freaking LOVE the bad assed bricks and mortar edifice that the Stoops Administration has lain for this fanbase

Finally - I hope we burn Ole Miss down at the Grove & just generally prove to be unkind and rampantly destructive guests

I THINK I wanna hit the Miss St game this year in person - that game is quietly pivotal every year

My youngest girl will be in the student section this year as well - so Ive gotta try for the trifecta and get Camille & Brandi out as well

Rudd - remind me to lay plans w/you for any possibility of joining forces at a game sir

I’ll be up for the USC and/or MSU game. First KY trip in several years. Also an overnight excursion at Red River Gorge is in the works too. Pretty pumped

My summer beverage of choice currently is gin/sprite and splash of grenadine. So whatever that’s called. A dirty Shirley?

Friday 5

Dwight Yoakam- Fast as You
Sublime - Garden Grove

Jeter not an average SS. Numbers, OPS, Slugging BP, are pretty similar to Larkin. Jeter did not play on turf, so he did not get the astroturf hits.
He played in NYC and delivered, not all players are built for that.

Long-ish post. Football on the brain this morning.

I have total faith in the Big Blue Wall and Coach Yenser. Dude reminds everyone of Schlarman and to top it off, he's doing nice work on the recruiting trail. Helluva hire there. OL will not be a question mark.

DBs, however, are. Haven't heard anything about this, but I'm guessing Stoops is helping out with this room. Collins hasn't really proven to be a great hire yet, and we know from all the portal DBs we've taken that Stoops is concerned about personnel. Stoops loves coaching up long athletes in the backfield and he's gone out and found several. If he can transform the room quickly, our defense can be dominant (DL and LB positions are stacked). If he can't, we're looking at something like last season, where White just tries to keep the ball in front of the defense and limit big plays. That can be somewhat successful overall, but teams like UT and Mississippi State will eat it up again.

The other question mark folks have mentioned is at WR. We lack experience, but Levis has a ton of talent to throw to.

Robinson
Key
Lewis
Brown
Harris
Crowdus
Magwood
McClain
Drennen
Rodriguez
Upshaw
Cummings
Dingle
Beckwith

I think from that group we can find at least 4-5 consistent threats. Barion Brown is going to go off during the second half of the season.

In sum, WR and OL questions have been answered. DB is still a question. Rest of the roster is loaded loaded.

I *hate* fall camp. Just weeks of holding our collective breath for no injuries.

-I think our receiving corps is filthy. Getting Upshaw back is such a luxury. Really high on Robinson. Cummings should take a step. There's a lot of younger talent there but I'm skeptical of Key/Brown being ready. Overall, there's plenty to keep defenses honest, much more so than last year.

-Worried about our OL. I just don't yet buy the BIG BLUE WALL sense of entitlement that the unit can reload year after year. We'll see. I think I'm still pissed at the unit for not getting us in the endzone against UT in 2019.

-If our DL performs (and stays healthy), combined with our linebackers the secondary should have some help. But, yea, I have some personnel concerns there, too.

-Re: schedule, it's nice to have some parity in the middle of the SEC, and damn nice to play a big part in that. I hope Bama/UGA come back to earth at some point; the league desperately needs that IMO.

-screw jeter and the Yankees.

-add me to the list of "burnt dafuq out". There never was a covid "pause"/work from home jerkfest in my industry as we are apparently "essential"...it made **** a lot harder logistically/hr speaking. Throw in supply chain issues/labor shortage/cheap money(that's going away now but wont be seen for a bit)...and the post covid situation is maddening , tons of work available and it "should?" pay off over the next few years(assuming the economydoesn't collapse). I just wanna play the guitar and tennis and follow my kates. Sadly I've got to keep at it for another decade or so...oh well at least I'm not dead?

Collins is fine, the problem was what we were left with when Clink bolted to Ann Arbor followed up by the transfers.

Our starters at DB don't concern me. It's the unproven depth that gives me concern. Valentine got the baptism by fire education last season, but by all accounts he's been working his tail off to shore up the gaps in his game. Keidron Smith will play boundary corner, and he's got 4 years of sec experience plus he's a prototype for what Stoops likes at that position. Ajian gives us a ton of experience at the backend. The younger guys are high on talent, but it's definitely a position where lack of experience can bite you real quick. Thankfully we have a very talented DL and LB corp to help carry the load.

At the end of the day, I think our DBs are like our WRs. A lot of young talent with some experience sprinkled in to keep things in check.

Big Blue Wall- not saying it will be same but because of rotation, more players have experience, which is better than no experience.

Huge concern for me is pass rush. We didn't rush well last year, how will it be any better?

Oxendine returns from injury, Weaver is fully healthy, Wallace has his freshman year behind him, Rybka has remade his body in the off-season, Hayes and Rogers create the best competition at NG we've had under Stoops...

Lots of optimism from me to see an improved pass rush. Tighter coverage from an improved secondary will help too.

Well, that's easy.

1. Full year of healthy Ox. That dude was flat out amazing as a what...freshmen??? He's DIFFERENT.
2. JJ Weaver. Animal. Dude wreaks havoc. 1 full year of recovery.
3. Wright. Cmon, a 5th year of him? With JJ Weaver opposite. Dude is a freak.
4. Justin Rogers. We shall see
5. Plethora of LBs...TREVIN WALLACE. Put that kid in and tell him to get the QB. Done. Heat seeking missile.
6. I'm probably missing a handful of guys/reasons why our pass rush should be better.

Our defense has the potential to get back to being flat out scary. I think we're quicker/twitchier up front. Our outside backers are better.

To be honest, the SEC is lucky Vito is hurt. They deserve that....but we have another nickel type dude that's projected to be pretty good, yes? We got dudes, man. Too many to remember.

Also, I've seen Carrington Valentine in the Flex Friday clips....dude looks like a beast. He is some big specimen at CB. We arent' gonna be any worse at DB for sure, and I know we have the talent to be pretty dang good back there.

Our TO margin was putrid. Flat out pathetic. It's a wonder we won as many games. You gotta bet we won't duplicate those TO numbers again. If Will Levis tightens up, we quit the fumble bs, and our defense picks a few more balls....The SEC's worst nightmare just might come true. A perfect storm. It can happen.

Any specific True freshman i should watch out for in football?

Any takes on surprise contributors?

I don't normally follow recruiting or roster changes until we start playing -

I sometimes feel my angst gets projected into the aether -- and causes problems for others -

Im still about 87% sure i caused many of Kordell Stewarts FK UP moments & possibly last years NCAA tournament loss as well

I probably need counseling

Lack of pass rush last season was due to scheme, IMO. We played very vanilla due to a weak secondary. Same could happen this season.

I like Valentine a lot, actually, and the staff clearly has faith in him as he's gotten tons of snaps since he first showed up on campus. I think Keidron Smith should be good, but he was moved from CB to safety at Ole Miss. Not sure if that means he's versatile or not a good SEC CB. Hopefully the former. I've always thought of Aijan as a very good safety, but man he looked BAD against UT last year. Hiccup or exposure? Again hoping for the former. Joel Williams could make a leap but I haven't heard his name much. Afari could contribute. We're going to need 1 or more of these transfers to be a diamond in the rough.

I’m not sure we rotated the offensive line as much last year as we normally do. That is a bit of a concern.
- I believe it was Freddie Maggard who wrote about this very thing after Wolford's departure. He shares your concern.

- Haven't seen it linked in GYERO yet, but this NYT article about Wesley Morgan's daughter being murdered in his bunker mansion is really well done.

- Dennis Johnson's kid, a rising junior PG over here in Woodford County, got an offer from Oats and Alabama last night. His only previous D1 offers were from Radford and Ohio U. Not sure I've ever seen quite a jump in the quality of offers like that.

- Somebody voted for Vandy to win the SEC East. That person should be put to death, frankly.
