* I'm FB friends with Jamarrion Harkless' dad. Dude brought his big *** cane corso dog to the hotel on the official visit to Illinois.

😂

Want my son to play at your school? You're going to have get a hotel room for my dog.

Respect.

* I like to listen to podcasts while I work. During the summer, especially when Matt Jones is on vacation, I'll occasionally go back and listen to podcasts from specific times (like February 2020; January 12, 2021; etc). It is amazing how we get hysterical about the topics of the day that immediately slip from the collective conscious and into the memory hole.

I mean, we all spent weeks of our lives listening to hot f***ing takes on horse dewormer for COVID, Jussie Smollett being a victim and then a fraud, Fauci and Rand Paul bitching at each other on CSPAN, Lori Lightfoot's yelp review, etc. Reminds me to never take the news too seriously unless it has a local impact.

I probably should just ignore national news all together but then I'd have to actually do something productive with my time. It's a lot easier to be hysterical about January 6 or teachers grooming kids or whatever.

* It has been said before but during the dog days of summer it bears repeating -- Kyle Tucker kills UK coverage on The Atlantic. He's an old-school newspaper reporter that found the perfect forum for his work (unlike Bill Simmons deciding to take his talents to podcasts). Dude may be a woke scold on twitter, but he's the best UK columnist we've had in a long time.

Who are the best UK basketball newspaper journalists of all time? I'm 41 and grew up in Central Kentucky. All I've known from my local newspaper is Jerry Tipton's stupid *** covering UK basketball with the sarcastic snark of a hormonal teenager. I'm kind of embarrassed that I can't recall a great UK basketball newspaper writer off the top of my head.

* If you got to choose to live the life of a UK player for a year of their career, Will Levis this year would be a solid choice. Dude seems to be getting every single bit of enjoyment possible out of being QB1 on an SEC contender and first round prospect.

I do worry a bit if Rodriquez doesn't return that Levis will be our best short yard runner and that cocky son of a ***** doesn't slide so I'll be petrified of an injury. If he goes down, we are screwed.

* My crunch time line-up:

Wallace
Fredrick
Reeves
Toppin (Still kind of wish we'd landed that South Dakota honk to have a shooter in the frontcourt)
Oscar

I'd love to see that lineup average 20 minutes together per game. We will probably see a lot of Wheeler, Wallace, Livingston, Collins, and Oscar though.

* Bret Kavanaugh needs to upgrade his house. Dude's living like he's a professor at Georgetown or something.

Live a year in the life...

Football, Max Duffy is up there. Kash Daniel seems like he had the life figured out as well.

Basketball, probably a Polson type that was good enough to be recognized, but under the radar enough to live it up without the pressure.

Or Lamb, because naps are the ****.

Honorable mentions: Morris and Crawford so I could brag in GYERO about waxing cricket's then girlfriend.

Familywatchdog.com has given Larry Vaught the columnist of the year award 14 years in a row.

Just going to leave him out of the conversation?

Don't forget about ol' Scoop McGraw, who wrote for the Owensboro Observer back in the 40s and 50s. Many call him the Hemingway of Kentucky sports journalism.

Chuck Culpepper may be the best newspaper writer/columnist (no matter the category) this state has had. He still does amazing work.
He's too much fluff and no substance. His articles look like something from Shakespeare vs. actual insight. He's a Max Mercy clone. The Kernel beat reporter >>>> Culpepper.

Easy answers...DG Fitzmaurice and Mark Bradley. Both pretty much told it like it is and didn't have to worry about being cancelled by the HC. Bradley has been at the Atlanta Journal for a long time since he left Lex.

UK player...any hoops player in the Sutton era....cars, cash, best restaurants, country clubs, etc. The 30 for 30 would be epic.

When it comes to Kentucky sports columnists, it's Chuck Culpepper, then a 100-foot cliff, THEN everybody else.

Everything the guy writes is just a master class.

You know who DID have to worry about being “canceled?”

A world class sportswriter who hid his sexuality for a couple of decades and ended up fleeing the United States when it was illegal for him to marry and suffered professional and personal discrimination across multiple continents throughout the majority of his career

UKO — you are truly a fing idiot.

The Gay Super Bowl

So that's why UKlanO has an issue with him? Explains a lot.

The above has this much to do with his writings....zero. None. I didn't bring up that topic...you did. Go suck a big sheep dick on the mountain of wherever. You have no knowledge of sports outside of what you are spoon fed but you're a big man on a keyboard.

* Got a late night dm from tommyg trying to hype me up for the Iggy Azalea/Pitbull show at Red Rocks in August.

🤣 🤣

On one hand, I'd rather stab myself in the ears repeatedly with a fork. On the other hand, he has a great point -- there will surely be tons of hot ace there.

* Needed to update my wardrobe, and my go-to for regular button-downs (LL Bean) was fresh out of stock. Took a flier on Charles Tyrwhitt. Probably end up being the quality of Jos A Bank, but it's whatevs. Got a whole closetful of shirts for $30/apiece.

* David Allen Coe today.

* Book rec:

Wild Idea

Biography of Doug Tomkins, founder of the North Face. It's fascinating that he and Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia) are lifelong bffs. I love that the two of them both lived their personal and business lives with similar principles.....

- never dilute ownership/no investors
- always insist on taking at least 4 months a year to vacation

Those two have done some things, man. And became filthy rich in the process.

* UKO sucks, but I doubt "UKlanO" catches on. We shall see.

* Absolutely not a chance in hell I'm caught dead watching even 10 seconds of this 1/6/21 reality show on tv.

* LIV is going to change golf forever. Just wait. The big tour will steal innovations they first put in place. They'll force the PGA to start paying minimums to all tournament participants. The bans won't stick and players will be allowed to move freely from one tour to the next. I think the Saudis have exposed some major issues with the PGA, and golf will eventually be better because of it.

* Ashamed to admit the lass and I just got our TSA pre-check/Global Entry a few weeks ago. Ashamed.

* Tyler Stephenson out a month or two, which won't do much to help the Hottest Team in Baseball.

* Every single day, another anecdote drops about the Uvalde shooting, and every single day, the police/authorities only look worse and worse.

  • The Uvalde schools police chief said he left his radios behind during last month's mass shooting.
  • He said he believed that the radios would have slowed him down and impaired his shooting accuracy.
  • But he also said he was unaware students were calling 911 because he didn't have a radio on him.
Uvalde school district police chief Pete Arredondo, one of the first responders to last month's elementary school massacre, said he intentionally left his two radios behind when he ran into the building to try and stop the gunman, making it difficult for him to be in contact with most of the other officers on the scene throughout the entire situation.

Unbelievable

* Golden State wins tonight.

* There sure has been an awful lot of talk about Kentucky sports journalists without an Ercel Ellis mention, which is completely unacceptable. Horse Tales is a treasure.

Friday Shorts:

-Treated a few of my Loan Officers to golf yesterday at Nevel Meade -- had probably been 10, maybe 15 years. Forgot how great that track is, it's really beautiful out there. Flawless condition.

-One of the dudes had a 1980s UK Macgregor Staff Bag that was just absolutely sick. Offered to buy it, but was turned down -- plan to keep pursuing.

-3 weeks til Vegas. Eek

-No worries Cawood, CJ is my guy. Firmly believe him being healthy is the sleeper key to us having a great season.

-Feel like Pop music is undergoing a sort of renaissance. It's all kinda EDM influenced, but I find myself enjoying quite a bit of these tunes...the beats are generally fire. Dua Lipa ftw

-UKO is absolutely awful. What a miserable existence disagreeing with literally everyone, about everything...unless it's an extreme conservative talking point.

-Continue to murder work, while actually working less and less. #1 in District every month, in my sleep. In my 14th year, the machine is tuned. Took a solid 10 of busting it to really get it to where I wanted, but the payoff has been beyond worth it. 25 hours a week ftw.

-Hometown bias I suppose, but Harlow's Churchill Downs is seriously one of the dopest videos I've ever seen. Incredible.

-Have been thinking about Theme/Water parks a bit lately. No children here, but I could definitely enjoy being one for a day. Anyone wanna go to Kings Island w/ ya boy?

-Kroger Derby Chicken salad from the deli is the gold standard, imo. Sure, there are better versions...but chicken salad to me is so hit or miss, b/c everyone makes it differently. Disappointed at least 35% of the time, but Kroger always brings it. I'd even argue it's their signature product.

Anyone been to Chicken Salad Chick? Apparently great.

-My Instagram Reels are so fine tuned to my preferences at this point that it's actually annoying. It's entirely too easy to get sucked into watching those for way too long.

-Rhoback polos (and everything else they make) are A+. Absolutely worship.

-Always find myself wondering when they pan to him in the Box if Brad Stevens has any envy that as soon as he stepped away, the Celtics are looking like World Champions? I mean, there HAS to be a little of that.

-Wanna get me ALL IN on LIV Golf? Anthony Kim would do it. That insurance policy he has that's kept him off the course would seem irrelevant now, you'd think.

-Taste

  • UKO prolly hates Fla-Vor-Ice.
  • I was roasted on here for lauding Rhoback **** 4 years ago. I bought because I have Rhodesian Ridgebacks and I was introduced to owner of company. Their stuff is awesome and the polos get better with age.
  • I punted today… put out the deck cushions and have been happily ‘working’ on my phone on my outside couch under a cantilevered umbrella and in a light breeze. I mean, eff going into the city.
  • Power K flag flappin
  • What’s the one college music album that annoys you to the point of PTSD? Mine- Prefab Sprout - Swoon. Some dude played that NONSTOP during Architecture studio evenings and it is hot trash.
  • Senior Prom tonight. My son finally dumped his girlfriend just in time, now going stag… I told him to expect her to find you by the end of the evening… Jersey kids go to the shore the next day. Party balls off. My kid is a lightweight. Hope he survives. I didn’t. I saw my uncle jogging on the boardwalk at 4:30 in the am… was busted.
  • Bourbon & Ringo tonight.
  • Eric B on the Sonos.

-I hate that I watch reels. These couples that stage the reels are the worst. But damnit if I don't end up flipping through them. Completely ashamed.

-Rhoback is solid. Vinny Vines Polos and shorts are current favorite. Mott and Bow for work pants and jeans. Ten Thousand for workout shorts. UA for workout shirts. Nike tennis shoes for everything else.

-Still in an absolute zone with trimming down. F*ck you, T*mmy/

-You can take our kid to a water park any time you like.

-10 days from the longest day of the year. Truly Blessed.

-High 90s next week. Enjoy FAs.

-Pool talent seems to have taken a step up this year. Those rona 15 are coming off.

-Hard to imagine a former player "getting it" more than Kenny Walker. Deuce would be right there with him.

-These little bastards will just hit the griddy on you in a second. Industry Baby, Jack Harlow, Right Foot Creep come on and 6-8 year olds just going wild with the griddy. Ornery. Whole gang of them doing it at the ball field last night.

-Gotta catch Mav this weekend.

-The Boys 🤣 That show is something else. What a weird/disgusting/hilarious way to start S3.

-Stingers running away with this ****.

-99% of hardcore pro sports fans* are the worst humanity has to offer. Bunch of losers.

*chumps is in the 1%.

-I wear "active gear"/moisture wicking only when im being active. "Just got of the course" look is only for when you just got off the course.
