I guess at this point Greg Norman takes who he can get, and thus you have guys like Na. But I believe the goal is kind of a "super tour" concept. The most popular players, best of the best. Limited events. No cuts. Casual fans more likely to tune in with big names on the leaderboard than some journeymen having a good week.

The concept is similar to the European soccer super league that was proposed last year, or even the idea that the NCAA tournament should get rid of mid-majors and just focus on Power 5. Leverage your top assets and exclude the rest.

-I don't care about golf.

-"allies"...I mean in the sense that they only kind of **** us regularly while buying some of our ****. Old enough to remember 9/11/2001 and a whole Lotta other stuff.

Yeah I remember 9/11. Kinda reminds me of that old Jerry Tarkanian line:

“The NCAA was so mad at Kentucky they gave Cleveland State two more years of probation.”

-I don't like it anymore than the rest. I want the best players playing together but Clark is dead on. Most golf is EXTREMELY boring. Like baseball they've let much more exciting sports dominate. I don't blame most of these guys for cashing in, makes a hell of a lot of sense TBH. Especially mid level or older talent. I think the team stuff, other than logos, seems pretty cool.

-Give me a break with the Saudi stuff. Everything we do is hypocritical to awful dictatorship leaders. NBA will eventually put a Chinese flag on Jerry West. This is no different. I'm sure all those super offended are sending from their Iphones and drinking coffee, 2 very fair trades.

-Baseball SZN wrapped up other than taking up this complete Saturday 10-6p for ceremonies and awards. FFS. Baseball Dad is a ready for a break.

-Opted out of cleaning the garage last weekend. Still on the list...

-Brooks loves stalking my workouts on MFP. Don't lie.

-Would love to check out Baha-Mar, place looks amazing. Supremely jealous of the folks going. Just not an easy decision with the 2 kiddos. Is that what I want to burn a week of sitters for something I've done twice? Probably not. Still thinking about some stuff later in the year.

-Wout Van Aert is a bad bad man.

Greg Norman along with Phil Mickelson have teamed up with the Saudis to start a new league called LIV Golf. The PGA is pissed because they see them as direct competition. LIV will pay players much more guaranteed money no matter where they place each event and their caddies get better pay and expenses paid as well. Players on the PGA Tour are independent contractors and if they do not place high in a tournament they get paid peanuts compared to a LIV event and have to pay their caddies and living expenses for the week out of their own pocket. Comes down to the PGA is terrified they will lose their talent to LIV which will kill their ratings and sponsorships so are playing hardball with their players now. Some are jumping ship to LIV. Its going to end up in the courts but the question remains how long will it take LIV to get a TV deal and bring in big revenue to justify the crazy money they are throwing out to players right now.
You forgot to mention that the GYERO Olympics was run with more organization and forethought than LIV and that it's basically a sports washing proposition with no concern for the game or its fans.

Going to be a huge clustertouch...but, entertaining now to watch it all play out. I've been glued to the tweeter machine.

Golf has a mess on it's hands, which I know concerns Chad as he hopes all the leagues win.

-my phone is south Korean and I'm strickly "farm to keurig" coffee wise.

-our government/multinational corps are into a lot of shady *****...doesn't mean I gotta be supportive of it, or participate in it.

* national security is one thing...I think Ike said it best iirc: "he's a sonofabitch...but he's *our* sonofabitch". I'll be danged if I'm gonna suck Chinese or Saudi cock so I can be entertained/buy cheap ****. To each their own...I prefer not to debase myself. That's just me.

All joking aside, I don’t want my buddies who love watching golf to get screwed.

None of this **** is good for fans (see SEC expanding, etc).

Yeah, the PGA isn't perfect and can largely seem boring to non-golf fans (and a lot of times even to golf fans) but it was a consolidation of the best talent in the world...an easy way to know who is the best of the best.

It's concerning that golf could end up like boxing, just a bunch of rouge leagues with no real pecking order or ranking system.

Been keeping a close eye on Twitter for **BREAKING NEWS** to see where 73 is going to steer his glow in the dark putt-putt empire next. Will he keep his PGA affiliation, or switch allegiance to LIV?

Only time will tell.

Boston gonna beat the Warriors or nah? From 2005 to 2019, no Eastern Conference team that didn't have Lebron won a title. Since 2019, the Raptors, the Bucks, and (MAYBE) the Celtics could all win a crown.

I'm loving watching the contrived attempts at super teams (i.e., Lakers and Nets) fail. It is nice to see NBA playoff series that have a whiff of unpredictability.

Masters, US Open and Open Championship aren't PGA Events.

Actually, they are in the general context. Although the Master is an "invitational", so to speak, and the US Open and PGA have qualifying events to land a few select open spots, every player can land a spot in these by doing well on the PGA Tour. The British Open has its own criteria as well which includes successful play on the PGA Tour.

They all reward players with tour exemptions, FedEx points, world ranking points, etc.....so they are definitely not out there on an island doing whatever they please.

Oh, most golf is definitely not boring.

I'll say this much ---> the coverage is dope, unlike awful *** CBS where sometimes you'll see just a handful of shots over 20-30 minutes amidst endless commercials & the awful commentary.

Just rapid fire golf, shot after shot, very little fluff.

I also dont hate it being a shotgun start, tbh.

This is going to work out- eventually it will be televised/normal.

I'm not sure it will -- how many times has KING Football attempted to have a successful competing league...and you think GOLF will be the one to finally make it happen long term?

Then again, I never thought it would get this far, so...

It's just not a sustainable (business) model to me, although everyone is very clear in saying it's not a business whatsoever, and has zero intentions of ever being one - which I suppose, unlike Football/other, is THE reason it may have lasting power.

Who TF knows. It's just so wild, and I hate it for Golf.

I think my fear on it working is that there is apparently infinite money behind it and they dont care, in the short term anyway, about not turning any profit. Its basically their investment into being a more acceptable culture- which I guess would pay off monetarily in other ways.

That's why I think its different than the USFL- who has like 1500 fans in a 50k stadium and every decade when someone tries it, they realize its just not sustainable. When you remove financial sustainability- that seems to be a game changer.

Watched a special on how Cricket has been changing in a very similar way. They have these new leagues that are wildly popular and only last 2 hours. Young fans love it. They brought in American promoters to teach them how to be more entertaining. Fireworks, cheerleaders, the whole deal. Better not sit back and expect fans to just be loyal. Hopefully PGA learns from competition and makes so good changes without ignoring history. My guess is they don't.
