I think we are a lot like the Herro/Travis/PJ team. A lot of really good college players, even some good pros, but missing a guy who can put us on his back when things are completely going sideways.

Yes, Oscar is amazing and a deserving POY, all that, but he is still a guy that scores within the flow of an offense, as well as TyTy, Grady, etc. Like I’ve said all year, this is a team of rhythm (just like the 18’ team) and injuries have thrown that rhythm off.

I think such teams play worse against teams that have seen them before, like us meeting Auburn for a third time that year in the Elite 8 and today against UT.

My usual gripes with Cal still exist, our offense is predictable to teams familiar with us, we make no effort to score on inbounds plays and we are basic on defense. Things I don’t necessarily think you have to be when you have experience like we have.

Nevertheless, I expect us to be better against teams who are unfamiliar with us. I hope getting out of the SEC will be a good reboot and we can find that offensive flow again. A second round exit wouldn’t surprise me and neither would #9.

Strong stance, I know, but that’s where I am.

^ Agreed.

And this team has had elongated stretches of multiple games where they were murking fools.

They absolutely are good enough to win the title, but the half court offense is just a problem right now. They have to be able to get out and run. There's just not a lot of creativity or motion in half court, just dump down to Oscar or a midrange Keion jumper.

Hopefully they figure something out Thursday that can lead to a good run.

I’m continually befuddled by Cal’s philosophy of never helping off perimeter shooters on defense, but compete ambivalence towards prioritizing 3pt shots offensively.

**** makes no sense…

Make us play in the half court. Face guard TyTy/Grady/Mintz and never help off of them. Never leave Oscar without a body and make Wheeler/Brooks/Toppin be shooters.

Barnes gets it and he has the horses.
All of this. They basically run a hybrid match-up zone. Just guarded our spots and ran at shooters.

Our offense is so predictable.

We need a steady stream of serviceable 30 years old 7’ Serbs that are willing to mix it up for 10-15 minutes a game.

Is Wheeler to stupid to realize that the defense KNOWS what’s coming when he drives to the bucket and attempts one of those high banking layups? It worked early on, but the the report is in on him.

Wheeler is a GD disaster out there right now.

Sometimes it just looks like he’s a halfback, and determined to convert on 3rd and 2.

Been sitting by myself, dipping snuff, drinking whiskey, and listening to Keith Whitley records. That’s where I’m at.

Not because I really give too much of a **** about losing on a Saturday in Tampa, I don’t. But today made it finally sink in for me that this team isn’t going to get 9. The writing has been on the wall for a while, as Chad pointed out earlier, but I was holding out hope. That hope is gone. The feeling isn’t anger, it’s just sadness.

As if that lonesomeness wasn’t enough, I went ahead and did a deep dive into misery by going back and reading this thread’s pages after the 2018 and 2019 losses. What we were saying then would apply equally today, and vice versa. Nothing has changed, and it’s not going to change.

But what’s the alternative? Cal retires, and then what? Look at UNC and Hubert. Look at Duke and their impending shitshow. You’re more likely to fall in that category than to catch Pitino in 89. I mean, who knows. Our coach is a good coach, but we have fatal structural flaws, that simply are not going to be cured. And there’s no obvious pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Just a drunk leprechaun selling fentanyl.

I've been sacrificed by brothers
Crucified by lovers
But through it all I withstood the pain
I'm no stranger to the rain

I mean, out of desperation to beat loathed Tennessee AND watching guards hoist more bricks than Local 528 Masons… [maybe] run one set (one) for Dontae out of the seemingly 10 second half timeouts?

**we coach all the kids to be ready**
which is code to take credit for these poor guys who are buried on the bench with no shot of playing regardless of situation outside of locusts.

It felt like we just needed one to go down to get the place bumping.

The play call after timeout where it ended with Keion sizzling a cross-court pass into the seventh row was a Cal All-Timer.

I love how after we lose Kyle Tucker finally tweets that’s there some issues and how this team doesn’t look remotely close to the juggernaut it did one month ago?

Tell us that along the way while UK is hobbling to beat a crap Ole Miss team. The fans deserve that instead some fluff piece about Mintz’s anxiety dog or Lance Ware’s guardian applauding some 3 point, 3 foul, 1 rebound effort against S Carolina.

This attitude makes my f*cking blood boil....

The phrase, "we could've won," is never going to make a UK fan OK with losing...

Hey but he got home at 8:30 to kiss his ******* dogs. Good for him.

Sometimes the **** that comes out of his mouth after a loss…

- Just heard some analysts I respect say they weren’t in the least worried about Kentucky. They’ll be right there and could use an extra day of rest.

^ I don’t know. Maybe we’re too close to the situation. I hope so.

- Didn’t sleep well. Still pretty pissed off and concerned but I’m going to try to shake it off and get pumped again. We kept fighting.

- Said it before the SECT that I liked Tennessee second most in our conference and thought they were legit. That’s a helluva ball team - especially when officials let their roughneck goons play physically inside.

- There will be ZERO bitching from me about our bracket. We get what we deserve.

- Still 3 at KenPom. How is that so?

Nice post from Rafters: the thread said without looking who won:

The Big 12 Tourney in 2021?

The ACC Tourney in 2019?

The ACC Tourney in 2017?

The Big East Tourney in 2016?

The ACC Tourney in 2015?

The conference tourney UCONN played in in 2014?

The SEC tournament in 2012?

Maybe a punchy mixture of redass and hope is exactly what the BBN needs for our first tournament since 2019.

* Kind of hard to not get a little reflective when you think that two years ago to the tee, we were hoping the NCAA tournament would be played without fans. Other than Joey, I'm not sure anyone could have fathomed that things wouldn't be totally back to normal after two years.

* Tennessee just flat kicked our *** last night. They out-toughed and out-hustled us.

We've been a tough team throughout the year and we've seemed to be coasting for the last month and a half, presumably figuring that things will magically be ok when everyone is healthy. I'm hopeful that last night was attention-grabber this squad needs to get its act together.

* Rack 'em on SK's point that a team without an NBA playmaking talent gets easier to stop the more it has been scouted.

* I still like our chances in the Big Dance. If we weren't named Kentucky, we'd be the kind of 4 or 5 seed that would absolutely terrify us if we showed up in Kentucky's bracket.

I’m just not feeling it this morning.

That loss…I have to live around these ********. I have to listen to Ron Slay talk **** on the radio on the drive home from work on Monday. I went out for coffee with the lass this morning and a son of a ***** walks in with that god dam T on his hat.

If there is a God the Aggies will win today.

Had an alumni basketball game against a rival county last night. Both counties on the Tennessee line. It was sickening how many orange hats were in the crowd and how suddenly they all want to talk basketball
