I’ll take the good with the bad regarding Wheeler. It’s a darn luxury after last year to have a true point guard who facilitates and puts so much pressure on a defense causing them to scramble and then an open look for Kentucky.

Hey you don't like to have a PG that just stands 35' from the basket and dribbles the air out of the ball?

-My Dad liked the Yankees as a younger man, but he never paid attention to pro sports as he got older. It was all UK. So, I just never grew up with any pro allegiances. I've never been to an NFL game. I've been to maybe 3-4 MLB games. One NBA exhibition game. SO, I am not a Bengals fan and won't ever be because it's just not in my DNA to love a pro franchise. That said, I appreciated your UK football analogy and think that's a good one, wcc. Go Bengals.

-America's love affair with fried chicken is really remarkable. Even among health-conscious adults, a good fried chicken sam remains in favor and seemingly gets a pass. I'm here for it. And while I do love a good fried chicken sandwich, a fried breast remains the King for me.

-Speaking of fast food trends, my kids are decidedly not interested in french fries. Couldn't care less. Anyone else's like this? Been wondering if we were all just victims of the burger/fries phenomenon of the mid-late 20th century.

-All these football upgrades have me speculating when the basketball Joe Craft Center and Wildcat Coal Lodge get an upgrade. Both looking a bit dutchy as my Mom used to say. WCCL wasn't done right to begin with IMO. **** architecture. No outside living space. In the shadows of a liquor store drive thru and Qdoba parking lot. Just a lot of meh.

The original Wildcat Lodge had some GD panache to it. It looked like the kind of place where a man could have a proper drink and agreeable meal. RIP.

-TyTy has a certain je ne sais quoi as a basketball player that makes him my favorite on the team. I just love it when he has the rock, man. Players like him made and make me continue to love basketball.

-My love/hate relationship with Cal is well documented, but days like yesterday make me love the guy. Some ballin *** **** to go over to Frankfort and let those goons know what the real deal is when it comes to NIL. He was articulate, concise, and real. I know we're lucky to have him, in spite of it all.

Honestly, if you have an NBA prospect for a teenage son you count your lucky stars if Cal may be interested in having him here in Lexington. That's just the facts.

-White surviving much longer down in Gainesville? That's an interesting job to pop open. I've never believed it was all that great of a gig, but perhaps I'm being shortsighted. I suppose it has to be near the top of the league still?

-I find myself checking the night's college hoops schedule every morning Mon-Thurs. I still can't believe my personal renewal with the sport this winter. I know I'm not alone here, either. Been damn nice.

-I now have real health insurance...went for first visit yesterday. Blood work for *everything* this morning.

^I'm apparently borderline obese (in clothes). At a shade under 6'2" Recommended weight for "optimal" BMI has me between 148 and 185, lmao. I've been under 200 once in last 30 years...when I was commuting to lville, not eating regularly i dropped to 195. My wife received *multiple* inquiries about my health. People thought I had cancer.

^it's winter and I'm 225 nekid. In summer I'll be strong/fit at 210-215ish....but still be 25-75 lbs "overweight". Ok Mr insurance actuaries..smd, let us pray.

Tough to choose a favorite player this year- and that’s a good thing.

I’d probably go Grady but TyTy, Oscar and Wheeler are right there. And I love Mintz, even possess a great deal of affection for Brooks. I forgot Toppin.

Just a likable squad that plays pretty basketball.
Eh, Cal is coaching this squad so he'll purposely **** it up at some point. Don't know why everyone is getting so excited. Lucky if we make it past the first weekend.

Ware used to cause me instant red *** the moment I saw him at the scorer’s table checking in.

Now I find myself really appreciating him embracing his role. The last couple of weeks he’s really improved. He doesn’t seem to hurt you anymore with negative plays and he’s becoming somewhat reliable for some boards, a block and some put back buckets almost every game
now.

Plus, the kid pays his *** off and is having a blast being a role player at Kentucky.

In all seriousness, I do have concerns about this team.

-I still want Grady to drive more. It's been great watching him be an absolute sniper, but he should be our leading scorer. The other night he drove and had an open runner. Instead of shooting, he kicked it out and we either missed or turned it over. Later, he did the same thing but this time he shot the one handed runner and made it. That needs to be a part of his game regularly. He should be going to the line 6-7 times a game.

-Teams are going to continue to be physical with us and not just in league play. We have to ready for it from the jump instead of needing a half to adjust to the style of play. If South Carolina can be more active and kill us on the glass like they did, then it will be even worse in the tourney against a team like Houston.

-We should be living at the foul line. I mentioned it for Grady earlier but it goes for everyone. It has improved throughout the year. I want to see it continue to improve, especially late in the second half. We should be in the bonus before the 8 minute mark in both halves.

I love this team. I believe it is custom made for a deep run. But as we all know, now is the time to tighten up on everything. The stretch run is here.

My overly neurotic tournament concerns:

1. Oscar foul trouble
2. Wheeler out of control
3. Freak cold shooting night
4. Injuries
5. Bad matchup neutralizing Oscar

- That said, we can ball uptempo or grind you down.

- Tschibwe’s consistency is remarkable- and benefits offense and defense.

- Mintz and Toppin seem to excel when we’re “off”

- Washington is a star and has the poise to make big plays.

- Love having two elite PGs.

- The 4-spot isn’t nearly as soft as it once was.

- We’re mature.

- Our D is strong and getting better.

- We guard the 3 like MFers.

- We rebound like MFers.

- We’re versatile.

- We’ll be plenty battle tested.

Chin is super fly nerd. Dude takes cool to a different level.

Like a cross between Gary Coleman and Clark Kent.

My concerns over Oscar have been lessening lately due to his 2nd half performances after rough 1st half matchups. Think it’s combination of actual half time adjustments and fact the dude has a motor than don’t quit and he gasses those matchups out. Dude is always sprinting full speed down court.

Playing us physical stops during the tournaments. It’s seemingly been that way for years that regular season is totally called different than post season.

My only concern is a misseed team causes us problems the first day of either weekend.

It will be hard enough to get through the field but under seeded teams always cause problems(ie UK in 2014).

Getting James Harden for a guy who isn't playing and some rotation pieces is a major win for the Sixers. Kept Maxey. Kept Thybulle. The other pick is 2027.

It's still being coached by Doc Rivers with Tobias Harris as the third option, but they had to go for it this year.

I'm starting to get a Nick Richards vibe with him and I like it.

Vlade is way overlooked. Those Kings team were so fun (and probably literally cheated out of a final).

Another overlooked big white foreign guy: Sabonis. If his NBA career had started before he was 30, he'd be in the discussion of all-time greats. He was Jokic before Jokic.

His son is really good. Don’t know why the Pacers traded him away. Didn’t want to pay him I guess.

I was randomly a big Vlade Divac fan back in the day. Not sure why I started liking him so much.
Because Vlade Divac is one billion percent awesome. That Kings squad was like the Bad News Bears. You had White Chocolate, The World's Biggest ***** Doug Christie (who was legit a decent player), Peja, Webber, Vlade, etc. -- the works of screwballs.

And they were awesome.

I'm guessing the half-time show will be so over produced and jam packed that it will suck. Kinda like every year sans Prince and Janet's bewb.
