That being said, there's not one guy on the floor for Duke last night that I think he could even marginally defend.
You really could pick apart the defensive effort of every guy on our team save Oscar, I don’t think Allen is significantly worse than most of our other guys.

There isn’t a rule against playing zone, especially against a team that couldn’t buy a bucket from outside.

I marcus well scream at clouds because Cal isn’t changing. Just need to accept it and enjoy that we are at least competitive again, I suppose.

Maybe it’s just my own personal bias towards a Kentucky boy but none of the games which he received extended minutes did I find myself thinking Allen was killing us on defense or getting hunted.

In fact, he seems to play good positional D, helps and switches at the right time and is sneaky good on the boards. Seems more of a narrative given his shooter rep and the fact Cal clearly doesn’t want to play him.

It’s whatever, he’s not the difference in beating Duke last night just frustrating given some of the stuff from other players Cal will live with. He sadly should have never returned.

He could have been the difference actually- never know with a dude who can shoot like he does.

A quick Google search says Chicago and Cincinnati have about the 10th-highest murder rate per capita in the country. Louisville isn’t far behind.

Evidently St Louis has given up fighting crime the most, about 3x as much as those first two.

Look a little closer at those stats, and they start to fall apart.

Murder rate per capita obviously depends not only on the number of murders but the number of people who live in the city.

St Louis is listed as having a population of 295,000 people.

Louisville is listed as having a population of 616,000.

Is Louisville really more than twice the size of St. Louis?

Cincinnati apparently has only 305,000 people.

So the longstanding GYERO argument is settled - clearly Louisville is the major city, not Cincy.

In fact, Louisville is even bigger than Atlanta (524k people), if we are to believe these numbers.

And Tulsa OK is bigger than Pittsburg, St Louis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and New Orleans.

In other words, those numbers are garbage. They're probably using population in the actual city limits, which vary hugely from city to city. In some cities, you're out of the city limits as soon as you leave downtown. In other cities you can be 40 miles from downtown and still in the city limits.

Shorts:

- Pulling a PTI and working from a coffee shop this morning to switch it up. Considering also running a casual 20 miles at lunch and being a contrarian **** all day too. We’ll see. No offense, PTI.

- “Serendipity” era Kate Beckinsale 🔥

- I probably haven’t caught 5 episodes of SportsCenter in the last 5 years. Sad.

- Vanderpump Rules just isn’t the same without Jax and Stassi.

- We have the hardwood Cats on Friday and the gridiron Cats on Saturday. Can’t beat this time of year.

- The losses suck but man how great is it to have that anxious/excited/nervous big game feeling in your gut that we all experienced last Saturday and Tuesday? Non-and-casual sports fans, those poor empty saps, don’t get to experience that. It’s one of my favorite feelings in the world.

One could probably track back the rise in violent crimes to when proactive (profiling) policing became racist. (according to a retired Homicide Sgt friend of mine)

You may be dead, but hey, you weren't pulled over.

I'll see your Chicago and raise you a San Francisco:

And Seattle as a bonus:

And finally, these folks failed the shopping cart test:

Wtf is up with poor people and Tide? I’ve literally seen poors selling tide on the side of the road/parking lots. Does Tide get you high? Is it just the most desired grocery item due to cost? I get a big ol Costco “tide” and it pretty much lasts me one year. Wtf are poor people doing with tide.

Think they are all about the same. Kit is sent to your house and you do a swab and send it back in. Results come back with a breakdown of where your ancestors come from. Haven’t heard anything bad about any of them from my dad who is big into ancestry.

We ran through Ancestry Family Tree one Christmas a few years back and it was a blast. Year membership would be a cool gift.

- It was nice to have big-time college hoops in front of a packed house, to be sure, but it's also been nice to have those random weeknight games to either watch because there's nothing else on, or to have as background noise. Caught a little of Juan Dixon-coached Coppin State vs. perennial underachiever DePaul last night. Obviously Kenny Payne would have been the home run hire, but it was cool to see lifelong assistant coach grinder Tony Stubblefield get his first career win as an official(non-interim) head coach.

- Their program is a complete dumpster fire, but it's good to see UConn take a swing and hire Jim Mora Jr. as their new head coach. The guy went 46-30 at UCLA, so he's at least a reasonably-successful retread, which, at a place like UConn, is about as good as you're gonna get. He won't get 3/4/5-star guys out of HS, but I could see him mining the portal pretty strongly for guys from the northeast who don't work out elsewhere and wanna come home.

- Gonna be in Cleveland this weekend, a block away from where Chappelle is appearing at the Cavs' arena. If it was a straight-forward comedy show, I'd consider going. But it's a screening of his documentary, then appearances by he and some friends. Can't see dropping $$$$ for something like that.

- If there's one thing social media has taught us, it's that Americans will never truly grasp the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Just be thankful for all of them all the time, I guess.

- The Lee's Famous Recipe down the street was open for years and barely drew a crowd. It closes for a year or two, reopens as Lee's Chicken and Strips, and now there's a constant line of cars in the drive-thru, occasionally stretching to the street. Guess they added cocaine to the breading or something?

- I miss the days when cable news was more about heavily-followed courtroom drama rather than political garbage. I haven't followed it as closely as some of you have, but this Rittenhouse case seems to harken back to that era.

- Cincy Zoo Festival of Lights worth the drive and money or nah

Nothing bad, unless you talk to the poor saps who committed murder 30 years ago, but their DNA was never on file. Then their cousin Beverly does Ancestors.com, and now Bruce is in jail for life.

KL did you really post WHITE!! right after PTI said he wanted to spread DNA on someone's spouse, because that's the greatest joke of your career.

I haven't done the DNA test kits but one of my grandpa's siblings did a family tree some time ago. There's a large contingent with my last name in South Georgia, and a large cemetery with half white and half black decedents...OJ Simpson's mom is related, too. Soooooooo there's that.

-Probably won't miss another UK game at MSG for the rest of my life tbh. Man.

-Experiencing the northeast Duke fanbase was an experience in and of itself. Hard to believe that school is located in North Carolina tbh. They were fine, I guess. Most had that look on their face and were a little too dismissive; but I didn't hear or see any issues. Seemed both sides were smart enough to know the game was fairly inconsequential in the grand scheme of a CBB season.

Meeting those bastards in March would not be the same collegial environment, of that I am certain.

-When each team made a run it was just awesome to hear/see one side come to life. Was like a heavyweight fight. Just a dope atmosphere.

-Short trip (one day). Great hanging with my bro and his new wife. Went down to the financial district and walked around the harbor before having beers and oysters at a pub. Was perfect. Took the train back to 59th Street and walked Central Park for a bit. Unreal weather and fall porn. Was fantastic.

-Slept on his couch with a single bedsheet. I managed that surprisingly well at 39.

-Had a beer at Demseys with wodie, tommy, Burgan, et al. Nice meeting BBdK's new gal. She's awesome. Happy for the blue eyed rascal.

-Place is a real dump. Grief. Great service, though.

-The College of Agriculture can get pumped with that PRIVATE PARTY on the entire 2nd floor. Rest of us were nuts to butts while they sprawled out and enjoyed. Take that ish elsewhere on a night like that.

-NYC is just the best. 3rd trip up there in a year and I keep falling more in love with the place each time. Jealous of my brother for having the gumption to move there 10 years ago from Phoenix. He ain't coming back and I don't blame him.

-I was too hard on the team. They'll be fine. Just couldn't get over how much bigger Duke was. We can beat them, though. That corner 3 goes in (as has been said) and MSG was going full bore BIG GAME RUPP. That miss sucked.

-Big Wildcat cover this weekend, folks.

-Happy for Monk. Seems he's finally found some offense.
