and if that's the case I will say the same thing I say about people who refuse to comply to police....they better expect to get shot. It really isn't that hard to comply with orders of an police officer who has a gun pointed at you.

I saw an Anderson Cooper interview last night with one of the people who stormed the capitol who claimed to have been next to the lady who was shot and killed. He said there were some doors that were locked and they couldn't get thru. They busted the windows and immediately saw guns drawn on the other side. She tried to crawl thru the window anyway and was shot.

The person didn't know if it was police or secret service. They only saw hands and guns.

Over the years I’ve come to know some of you in real life from a distance. You’re all pretty good people. It’s a shame the bottom 10% of both sides of the aisle can make the other 80% look bad/questioned.

No reason for you guys that are real life buddies to be at each other’s throat. Nobody in this thread falls into that 10% in my book.

If you’ve read this thread, you’d know no one is at one another’s throat. I basically raised Anth in here. I’m his GYERO dad.

Sure, but why weren't they ready? The planned rally wasn't a secret. Yesterday should have been a DEFCON 1 situation for Capitol security.
Do you really need it explained?

I hate to be the sides guy(not really) but which side is known to be more violent when they plan peaceful protests? Based on previous rallies/protests, Capitol police had no reason to be prepared more than normal. Trump announcing a march on the Capitol caught everyone off guard.

Capital police explained all this last night, but their explanation won't matter to some of you who have extreme thoughts on this subject.

NBC/CBS/ABC basically explained this in live time.

I have no idea how credible the person was, they seemed a little "weird" to me. As I am sure many of those "patriots" are.

But her trying to force herself into an area where the VP of members or congress were holed up is a possible explanation for why she was shot.

It was my understanding that it was a secret service perimeter and the secret service are to shoot on site when it's breached.

Really feeling good about changing my voter registration 3 weeks ago, after being long-time R.

Never knew that in addition to all the conventional parties, there's also an option to register as "Other".
I've heard the "other" registration allows you to choose a party for the primary. That doesn't sound right, but if anyone can clear that up I'd like to hear the answer.

I'll probably switch to independent before the next election.

Chief, I really think you should try talking with someone, my man.

You're a good guy and I'm afraid you might need some help.
I'm perfectly fine Willy. Feeling better than I have in years.

It should be obvious why there was less police presence at a protest by conservatives.

I've seen the video. That's what happened.

As a formerly registered Independent.....be prepared to get bombarded by both sides.

Not in Kentucky. I've been a registered independent for close to a decade and I get shockingly little mail, etc and I don't have to deal with primaries for any race with party affiliations. It is pretty sweet, other than I'll never get appointed to anything by a governor.

I agree with Willy. I like you as a person despite my constant insults, but you are treading in dangerous waters with these comments. You need to take a step back and really look at what you are pushing. There is zero justification for what we saw yesterday, the president's actions were seditious and need to be called out.

Please dont respond to this with any more political garbage. We know how you feel, that is why we keep telling you you're wrong. Please take this as constructive criticism from a lifelong Republican.

I don't agree with what happened yesterday but then again I didn't agree with riots that the media wanted to call "peaceful protest" all summer. Both groups should have been allowed to truly protest peacefully but when you cross a line that you are no longer peaceful you lose your rights to protest and if you cross the line too far then expect the consequences of that action.

Just to be clear are you saying the ones who stormed the Capitol building should have been shot or all protestors that were there? I know a couple of folks from my hometown who were there and they went to protest peacefully which was what they did. They didn't storm the Capitol building so are you saying they should have been shot too or not.

They stormed the ****ing Capitol!!!! There are no excuses. They all should’ve been shot.

I think you guys are twisting things. I'm not trying to justify anything. Just explaining why I believe there was less police presence than there was last year.

someone I know stopped paying his mortgage as he became a Qanon and believed Trump would revamp the financial system or some crazy internet fever dream. I do not believe UKO and Chief are that dumb but they are definitely on the spectrum.

Outback has its place in the moment I enjoy a bloomin onion but man the next day is really the time to revisit it.

If you start a sentence with “I don't agree with what happened yesterday but...” I‘m not sure there’s much of an audience for whatever follows. Yesterday was wrong. Period.

No one said it wasn't wrong, "but" you can't just eliminate the facts that led up to this unless they are simply insignificant in your viewpoint.

-Rack, PTI. Maybe the only time in our 16 year relationship that I agree with every single word of your post.

Unfortunate, but I'm having a hard time having sympathy for someone who stormed the touching UNITED STATES CAPITOL - which, until yesterday's pathetic security display, I would have assumed was a suicide mission for anyone dumb (or mentally ill) enough to pursue.

-Believe the last guy to try that was able to take out one of the guards before being mowed down. However, all things considered, I think they handled it pretty well. You can't just start shooting at people, especially when they're all armed. Let them run their course and deescalate the situation. Everyone was safe and only one of the gun totting slack jawed idiots was shot. Considering the circumstances and the collection of dipshits in the crowd, not a bad outcome.

[laughing] ok douchebag

Keep twisting. It’s amazing to me that all you “personal responsibility” conservatives sure love deflecting.

Deflecting. Lolz. K. Just amazing how you always come out on the virtuous end and are rooting for the "good people." It's almost like they're gods or something. Capable of no wrong. Good for you, wish I was had that luck. Unfortunately, my team took a really misguided turn 4 years back and we'll be paying for over the next decade or so. Similar to UL basketball with Katina/Bowen. I do like a lot of the young talent we have and Trump seems to have alienated himself along with his whack job loyalist. So hopefully that'll be the good that comes from yesterday's **** show.

Who thought it was a good idea to give old white rednecks the internet? Thanks, Al Gore.

-The best thing about social media is that it gives everyone a megaphone. The worst thing about social media is that it gives everyone a megaphone.

-Social media and the 24-hour news cycle are the primary culprits when it comes to the decline of American discourse, to be sure, but both of them have contributed to another cause that has become just as toxic....whataboutism. Not only can you ALWAYS find a stat to back up your stance, and ALWAYS find an article to back up your stance, but now you can also ALWAYS find an example from "the other side" to justify the wrong being done by the side you support, which means that you can do whatever you want, as wrong as it may be, and use a precedent set by the other side to prop yourself up. It's a never-ending loop of stupid, and I'm not sure what the solution is.

-Rack PTI (God, I can't believe I'm saying this) on his long post. Spot-on. And I do believe that it was PTI who long ago said that politics (and agendas) has ALWAYS been part of sports. And he's right. The difference is that until recent years, there were still places you could "go" to escape it. There were forms of entertainment that were JUST about the entertainment, be it television, sports, movies, etc. But there are no "justs" anymore. That's the problem. It has seeped into EVERYTHING....every show, every Twitter account, every everything. It's essentially made Facebook unbearable (not that it was all that great before). But still....I liked it better when I didn't know what everybody thought about everything.

-I'm automatically making whatever NFL team hires Eric Bieniemy as head coach my "other" team. I don't know if he'll be a good coach or not (though he obviously has the chops), but he was my favorite player on one of my favorite CFB teams of all time...that 90's Colorado group. Loved watching that dude run.

-Dentist appointment this morning. The pain was just a small infection that can be treated with antibiotics, didn't even need a shot. (guy in sunglasses emoji).

Oh, it's your team again? Last we were updated you were an independent and claimed no association with Trump. In fact, you labeled those of us with deep concerns for the behavior of the vile POS President has having "Trump Derangement Syndrome" and something along the lines of "orange man bad" because the media told us so. Yet, and as I noted, you were proudly along for the convenient ride of his legislation but somehow claimed inoculation from the moral depravity of his entire MAGA movement in real time. Don't worry, you aren't the only one.

And UKO, these haven't been the best years of my life, or however you described it. My patriotism and life satisfaction aren't rooted in tax breaks or the Dow. It's been a depressing, dark 4 years for those of us that knew and recognized the vast ocean between traditional conservatism (a perfectly acceptable, rational political ethos), and whatever this disgusting, extreme version you've proudly hitched your wagon to. It's been harrowing, actually.

In fact, one of the earliest signs that we had crossed into something entirely different is when you proclaimed you would ride around town with the 2016 electoral college results and a confederate flag just to "own the libs." I'm sure seeing the stars and bars paraded through the capitol building made you proud yesterday. You're a seditionist to me. Plain and simple. Not a patriot. Not a conservative. Not principled. I'll never consider you to be anything more ever again. Aside from the comic relief I derive each time my Linkedin feed shows that you "liked" another attractive blonde woman's post, I have nothing for you. So again and more resoundingly, F you.
