What I really can't wrap my head around is that Cal used to be such a master marketer. He'd adapt on the fly and never miss a beat. The one and done thing was great .... 10 years ago, but now it just doesn't work. Other programs are doing it and the talent pool is hit or miss (unlike the loaded classes we were lucky enough to be around back in the day), so we're left with this diluted version of what he created over a decade ago.

I used to be optimistic that he'd find a new angle. Now? Not so much.

Just showing my white privilege, bubby. But horrible take nonetheless.

Sorry you didn't enjoy (or get to) as a kid. Camps were magical.
You're right. My poor Portland *** couldn't afford bball camps growing up. But it was always fun dragging all of the bball camp kids on the court.

Yes I think this group is good, and will show it. Askew can shoot and if Cal lets Mintz run point allowing Askew to get some confidence as the season goes as he hits open shots etc while an upperclassmen leads the team that fixes a lot of what is wrong and takes pressure off the should be high school senior.

Clark is legit as is Jackson. Both will be inconsistent but they are good.

That leaves the 5 spot. Sarr is good on offense, but a complete pushover on defense. In time I’d hope Cal lets Brooks/Jackson run together at the 4/5 and that’s a starting lineup that should by all means do well.

Leaving a bench of Boston, Sarr, Allen, Ware, Fletcher, and Toppin.

We just need Cal to get over his ego and coach to win the game instead of teaching these kids it’s his way or they lose.

We absolutely should have beat GaTech, but Cal was the only person that couldn’t see Wright taking Sarr to school.

We went small and closed an 11 point gap within minutes while Jackson shut Wright down, and within seconds of Sarr checking back in Wright had a layup, dunk and swiped Sarr clean for a steal, and we never came back from that and Sarr continued to get destroyed and their guards began knocking a lot of junk down.

Touching Baker was 2/9 in 2 games this season before going 7/9 against Northern Arizona last night. But we could sure the touch use him right now.

He played 19 minutes a game and hit 34% of his 3's at Arizona last year.

He played 9 minutes a game as a frosh at UK and hit 31% of his 3's.

If he had stuck it out at UK, he'd be getting as many shots as he wanted right now. I'm sorry Cal yelled at him once and hurt his feelings. These entitled pussies need to stick around and develop and Cal needs to stop whatever it is that is making all of the players leave after a year or 2, ready or not.

I mean, did Baker & Juzang really think they were going to come in and play 30 minutes as frosh and go straight to the NBA? Both of them would be playing a **** ton at the MFing University of Kentucky right now if they hadn't taken their balls and gone home.

I don't know if it is the culture, bad luck with signing little bitches or what, but it needs to change. NOW.

Somehow, Cal has to let players know it is ok to stay and develop if you aren't ready. PJ Washington, Quickley and Richards are examples for the players.

Hawkins and Willis are examples of what we need more of from the coaches. I'd love to give some more examples of 4-year players that developed into important rotation pieces, but that's it. That's the list. And IMO, that's the touching problem.

FTR, can't speak on his individual, but Don Lane was the best team camp in the state back in the day by a longshot. Nonstop games all week concluded with a monster tournament w/ teams from all over the state.

I realize none of you who attended all the cool autograph session camps were actually ON teams, but just wanted to clear that up.

You're dead on, Willy!

The culture drove away Dakari Johnson, Marcus Lee, Isaac Humphries and others who would have been very valuable had they returned. Cal could have also redshirted Willis his first year and he would have been a 5th year senior on the Knox team. Imagine if that squad had a senior Willis and a junior Humphries on it. Humphries most likely would have had a junior Richards type campaign, if not better.

Willy was also the head honcho of the Tubby Super Friends who would not allow any just criticism of Tubby’s decline so take any of his offense of the slights towards this giant pile of **** we’re watching with a grain of salt.

THIS TEAM MORE THAN NEEDS A 33% THREE POINT SHOOTER RIGHT NOW.

WTF are you talking about, Richie? Did you even read what I typed?

Could it be that he's a raging lunatic who clearly hates shooting and SHOOTERS whose #1 strength isn't being long w/ defensive star potential?

Remember, he didn't even start the runaway SEC POY as a sophomore until he was absolutely FORCED to.

I can’t imagine they did. My guess is they thought they would have a role as freshman and be allowed to at least occasionally play through a missed shot or defensive breakdown. Unfortunately, Cals leash and temper for them was infinitely shorter than other players. I’m not saying they should’ve left but Cal didn’t seem to act in any capacity to show it was important that they stay.

Cal is a crazy old stubborn lunatic who needs assistants to help him. He will never ask for help or admit that he's a crazy old out-of-touch jagoff.

...he did hire Bruiser and Lucas, so we'll see. But this is HIS dream, his show, he's the one who gets to kiss his babies on NBA draft night.

Plus, don't forget just how much he hates every redneck thing about this stupid state. He hates you and Adolph Rupp. If the Knicks were actually good, he would go coach them.

The problem is that Cal openly recruits over guys on his roster that aren't OAD. Askew is the latest in a pattern of Cal stubbornly allowing a OAD freshman to "play through his mistakes" over a better, more experienced Sophomore/Junior (or Senior) who has a ridiculously short leash. So while he may not actively push players like Baker and Juzang out the door, they can clearly see the writing on the wall.

It seems like Cal has built-up a complex, where he considers himself as a failure if he can't get a 5-star freshman into the first round of the draft.

The core of this team should have been Hagans, Montgomery, Brooks and Juzang.
Correct. While we wait on Boston, and Clarke to find their footing and become stars. Then we're pleasantly surprised by Jackson being a contributor from day 1.

Cal is amazing with high end talent and getting them to max out. He's also great at sticking by his guys. He's TERRIBLE when those high end talents, or 10-30 ranked guys that think they're high end, need more time and aren't ready. I'm sure a lot of it is irrational expectations by the player and the parents but at some point you only get that excuse so many times.

As for Brooks, it's obvious something is up. We've seen this same **** 3-4 times now. Dude was shooting at BBM and Pro Day. Yippee.

Hell Quickley was waffling back and forth after his freshman year too, but it ended up working out. There's no way he should've been anything but a 100% lock to return and become the star he did.

Give me a Big12 team to smack in Memphis in a couple weeks. Roll Terry out one more time and let's kick some ***.
