The whole point of the lockdowns was to prevent our ICUs from being overrun. That was literally the entire reason. We’re so far beyond that that most people probably don’t even remember that’s what started this and think the lockdowns are here until we get a vaccine.

Yep. People don’t like being BS’d. If they had another goal, they should have made it clear.

I think folks generally are understanding about this being new and the experts not understanding, but the messaging has been **** - from “flattening the curve” to masking.

And now what's the endpoint? We now waiting until there is never a new "case" of COVID ever again before we start acting normally again? A vaccine that many won't take and won't be 100% effective? What are we going for?

No politician even addresses that.

I don’t think so. I’ve wanted to meet you because despite you posting on here way before I ever arrived, you are one of the posters that very little is known about except that you like golf, tacky UK clothing and UKO.

I played at Big Springs once with 73 and Adam. I don’t think there was a 4th.

It’s really hard not be conspiratorial about the whole thing tbh. Only because believing that humans and politicians are this stupid is somehow worse than believing they’re evil.

Looking at the stocks for the 5 biggest companies going through the roof as small businesses are destroyed and the working class is hollowed out even further becoming more dependent on same companies; I’d rather believe Besoz and Soros are pulling puppet strings than accept that Andy and his peers are just too much of spineless, stupid pussies to realize it’s over and just let everything go back to normal

Tommy,
I remember you being one of the few who was touting the final season of Sopranos during its original airing while everyone else was trashing it, myself included. I was wrong. It's fantastic. You saw it way back when no one else did. Good eye!

It's not like Breaking Bad didn't have a decent amount of boring **** at times. That "Fly" episode was the ******* worst.

So much **** was building up...then you had to sit through Walt and Jesse chasing a f***ing fly for an hour.
Nearing the end of the season, the series was hopelessly over budget, and showrunner Vince Gilligan and the writers were forced to come up with an episode set in one location to save the cost of moving their production trucks, hence the story of two characters trying to catch a fly.

What is a better representation of the KSR audience, your Twitter mentions and Facebook comments or the hundreds of people that show up to cheer on Shannon?

-- I think the people that showed up to cheer Shannon are the better representation...at least of the Lexington part of the audience. Don't get me wrong, the vast majority of the KSR world are very good people. I was just talking about the diversity of opinion

-- One of the things I have realized is that to many of those in my audience, I am like the only real Liberal they "know." They see others but there are lots of people who listen to me who never listen to a liberal (outside of political figures) talk outside of my show. For the majority of them, they take it as a curiosity and I get dozens of messages on the text machine daily just asking me what I think about things in a curious way. They may disagree, but they aren't disrespectful. Then there are some who get angry about it, but most of them are just argumentative types to begin with. For a big part of our KSR conservative listeners, I am like their one "liberal friend"

-- Skyler is so terrible on Breaking Bad that it is hard to overstate. I am not sure how many tv characters over time I have been worse. There is so little appealing about her personality in any way that I do think she is a major negative to the show. I can't wait to start Better Call Saul as I love Odenkirk and obviously I hear great things. If "Succession" has a great third season, it moves high up the charts. I thought the second one was amazing.

-- Losing Peevy is going to be a huge deal in the Calipari-Mitch relationship area. I am certain if Dewayne hadn't been here, there would have been major blowups in the past. Without him, I can't wait to see how it plays out....there will be bumps.

-- Talked to a staff member last night about the football team. These coaches are insanely giddy and confident. They think they are going to be VERY good. Only concern is getting some WR play and Terry being consistent. But their confidence is bordering on cockiness and I admit, it is contagious.

--What is the best place to take my parents to eat outside in Lexington tomorrow? We normally eat at KSBar but they want to take me out for my birthday and because of my dad's health, he is only comfortable now eating outside. Of the decent places, what has the best setup?

-- If they get don't have NBA games this weekend because the season ends, I have to do eight straight hours of ESPN Radio. I am not sure I have that many opinions.

-- I am betting on Saratoga every weekend and loving it. NYRA Bets is going to have a handicapping challenge with KSR in the coming weeks. You horse folks need to participate with us

I don't know why it took me so long to drink coffee

One would have thought Matt would have learned what he needed to know about twitter opinions vs the real world when what’s his name lost to a Republican lite in a democratic primary

Clark, I feel ya on the old dog arthritis stuff. Clyde has been on meds for a while but got really creaky and couldn’t hardly go on walks. Back in the winter, I started taking him to a PT vet for exercises, cold laser therapy and now he also takes CBD oil. It may sound ridiculous, but he’s back to walking 2 miles a day and feels pretty good.

Matt, for dinner with your parents I agree about Azur. Ruby’s patio set up is great too. Epping’s has a covered outdoor area that looks nice.

Sedona Taphouse on Harrodsburg Road has a solid outdoor setup. I know it's a chain, but it's a good option.

This stuff is great, and it gets compliments for the smell.

~ Coming home for the weekend for Granny's funeral. Can already smell the sweet Kentucky air.

~ I can do without the current version of the NBA. It's a nice distraction but the quality of ball is atrocious. Not like this years champ wasn't going to be saddled with all kinds of baggage.

~ Bruiser looks the same today as he did 30 years ago.

~ Think I'm just going to start Twitch streaming. Find 1000 people to watch you play a game and you can make a decent living. I'll take those odds.

~ 67 degree back porch evenings are just fine. Can't recall the last August I got to enjoy that.

* Betting on Saratoga is one thing... Going there (and Lake George) in August is 🔥🔥🔥. As good, if not better than Keeneland (dare I say)

* Charleston SC weekend is all planned and wrapped up. Thanks for input. Going to HighWire distillery for a visit as well.

* Next week, my NYC office opens back up again. Yay. Will trickle in 2x a week to get re/acclimated. DeBlasio is a ghoul.

* Pat LaFreida brisket being delivered for Labor Day prep.

* Wife back in classroom means this dude is looking into shipping container pool for next year

* UKs depth at most every position is unique to SEC. I think we outlast attrition of the gauntlet schedule and prevail. Hope Atlanta allows fans in SECCG.

- Went on some research and the rec of our resident chef (thanks fylm) and grabbed a Genesis II S-335 last night. Looking forward to firing it up this weekend.

- After almost 2 months finally almost unpacked in new crib, I can't imagine how big of a PITA moving with kids would be. Puppies. Getting ready for the fall seeding to finally get the lawn started, builder just threw down cheap seed and straw to get the CO. It all washed away in the downpours the last 2 months. Not dropping the kash to sod over an acre.

- Looks like an Artesian Elite on the hot tub. Chomp.....

- Thursday Throwback Seven:
Take It Personal - Gang Starr
Pick It Up - Home Team
What's Next - Leaders of the New School
They Reminisce Over You - Pet Rock and CL Smooth
Ya Mama - The Pharcyde
Funky Child - Lords of the Underground
Rock Dis Funky Joint - Poor Righteous Teachers

- "We don't take **** from anybody". Snap the ball and let's roll.

Good Morning:

:: Got promoted to NTI Teacher today. This should go well.

:: Azur is by far the best outdoor option in town. Jeremy has put a ton of work into that patio.

:: It looks like you can dine outside at Holly Hill as well. That would be worth the drive to Midway.

:: Burger/Fry night went well. I've never been happier with my fry recipe. Now, if I could develop the patience to let the oil rebound and take a food picture worth a damn.

:: Sang along with Jim Croce as I was cooking on the deck. If you can get through "Time in a Bottle" without tearing up I salute you. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.

:: I need to figure out how to get DIY back on my TV. I need my Maine Cabin Masters fix. I watched them a ton when I was recovering. The unintentional humor of stoner carpenters. Gold.

UK football's last play of the 2019 season was a defensive touchdown. I think that is a sign of what is to come this year. I feel like we have the talent and depth to be a dominant defense in the SEC.

Agreed. I feel like their mindset is that of the East Dillon Lions in FNL Season 5. So pumped to see these dudes in action this year.

Home from a week in the mountains notes....

* Yellowstone is like a whole other world. Boiling sand, huge waterfalls, an elk casually sunbathing on a mound of sulfur with a water trickling down it, a herd of buffalo taking a swim across a river then stopping traffic as they casually hop out and stoll across the road to a meadow, geysers shooting water straight into the air over 100 feet tall, deep blue pools of boiling water surrounded by bright orange rings of algea....just incredible.

* Grand Teton was even more my jam. Hundreds and hundreds of miles of trails. Delta Lake was the best -- about a 3 mile route on an improved trail, followed by 1+ of mostly rock scrambling to a glacier lake at ~ 10,000 feet, surrounded 270 degrees by the Teton mountain peaks. Basically, the best picnic ever.

* Met the nicest old couple at lunch Monday. 78 years old. Wife still skis 70-80 days a year. They spend half the year at the ranch in Jackson and the other half in Sea Pines. Takes a serious budget to maintain that lifestyle. Translation: they are filthy rich. Ole boy was wearing ripped Carhartts and had been working in the yard all day. Life goals.

* Grand Teton Brewing = Victor, Idaho (http://grandtetonbrewing.com/)

It was 80 and sunny. We're lounging in adirondack chairs on their sprawling property, sipping cold snacks and working on our tans after a hard day of hiking. Take me back there now, please.

* Had forgotten that an old frat bro lived in Jackson, and hit him up just as he was getting off work Tuesday. He's a criminal defense attorney downtown -- which means DUIs, weed charges, etc. Pretty simple stuff. With an alliterative name, and a self-deprecating sense of humor, he's come up with the best bumper sticker/slogan in the area: DICK STOUT GOT ME OFF.

* Mangy Moose wins the award for worst steak ever, the $52 filet. Steak is for basic bitches, imho.

* Next National Park on the list --> Yosemite.

-Can't go wrong b/w Azur, Windy Corner or Holly Hill. All would be really nice. I'm partial to the food at Azur and they typically have a good low key band playing out there.

-I need to try those fries. Maybe this weekend.

-Saratoga was a sunofabitch. Looking forward to the main events moving on from the death trap. Will be visiting though, no doubt.

-I was only half paying attention to the NBA anyway. Pretty indifferent to it. Good for them, although I'll believe they're actually serious if they cancel the year. Like most people selfish motivations will take over. I'm just not sure what's going to satisfy their requests, tbh. None are specific in nature. Interesting notes on them tired of living in a bubble. Me too.

-Speaking of podcasts, one of my favorite from Revisionist History on Police Shootings and why they're so difficult to sort out.

-Creepy obey meme has ruined an otherwise good page.

-Put the Keurig in the office. Burr grinder, 5 cup bonavita coffee maker, and subscription to trade coffee. Cheaper by the cup and better than those crappy pods.
