A shoestring in its package was thought to be a noose at Michigan State a year or two ago made headlines, another college had everyone upset over a supposed noose was just part of the wire coiled on a utility pole, that made the news. Sarah Silverman got hysterical on social media when she thought swastikas had been spray painted on the road and sidewalk that were in fact utility markings for construction workers. And on and on, so anytime there's a story like this, it should be treated like how the NCAA would treat an allegation at Duke or UNC.

I’ve recently taken up fishing with my 65yo neighbor, his BIL, and another friend of theirs. We meet every morning at 5:15 at the foot of Broadway/Kentucky (for my Paducah peeps) and fish until we are ready to call it a day. No masks or social distancing. It is just about the best 4 or 5 hours of my day. Sit around shooting the ****, no politics allowed, they couldn’t care less about sports which is actually nice, and we reel in an occasional fish or 3.

Re: Bubba Wallace situation, they just said on local news that it was a crew member, not Bubba Wallace himself, who saw and reported the now-notorious noose. (That has already been reported, but some of you seem to have missed it*.)

Also, apparently he and his crew weren't regular users of that particular garage and were just assigned to it a few days ago. So his crew - who, I repeat - are the ones who saw it and reported it, didn't know that it had been there well before they started using the garage.

So it is indeed all a misunderstanding, and an understandable misunderstanding for all parties involved.

I’m not sure that helps the case of not laughing at someone hysterically before the FBI has to get involved.

I guess some people are focused more on The Who of the story, and not the fact that someone was allowed to make this a story without being clowned out of that garage.

Thank tho for clarifying it wasn’t actually Bubba and that ESPN and the national media only used him for the spotlight.

I mean, they didn’t accuse two white guys in MAGA hats of assaulting them in the middle of the night during a blizzard In Chicago outside of a Subway, but it does beg the question of how this went straight to prime time news without maybe somebody with local knowledge of the place offering another explanation before 15 FBI agents are on the scene.

But congrats to NASCAR, they got their big news clip with plausible deniability.

I don't disagree with this part. The media, as is all-too-often the case, jumped to conclusions instead of letting it play out.

Because nobody could image a rope with a loop tied hanging from a garage door might be used to pull the door closed...

It wasn't just a rope with a "loop" hanging. It looked just like a noose. Most ropes hanging on garage doors or in garages for other purposes might have loops or handles, but they aren't in the shape of an actual noose.

Having the FBI look into it and come to the conclusion that it was all a misunderstanding is, IMO, much better than having an internal NASCAR group look into it and come to the same exact conclusion. It prevents a lot of conspiracy theories about coverups.

These days, I can't tell when you're serious and when you're not.

Come to think of it, that's true for a lot of GYERO reading.

In related news, sounds like the NYPD shake shack story was fabricated too. I can't keep up with this **** anymore.

Are nooses the new n-word? Like not okay for any occasion? And why is this for black people only. I feel bad for people like Ann Hibbons who is all but forgotten now. Witch Lives Matter.

Yeah, because the FBI never covers up anything... unlike those cloak-and-dagger corporate NASCAR scoundrels!

(Obviously there was nothing to coverup, it’s just funny to think of the FBI as the paragon of transparent justice - and I want them to cover stuff up.)

I guess I should have been specific and said that by NASCAR having the FBI investigate, the SJWs and George Soros funded antina (anti-nascar) groups couldn't accuse NASCAR of a coverup.

These days, no matter who did the investigation, there will always be a group of people out there who don't believe them and will see a conspiracy somewhere.

My favorite was the video of the Oakland mayor, who (SHOCKINGLY!) is a middle aged white woman, claiming that the crossfit ropes in the park warranted a hate crime investigation even after knowing what they were and who put them up.

I feel bad for the guy who put up the ropes. He's just trying to work out in the park with his buddies and now he, a black dude, has to start answering questions about nooses and lynching and whatnot.

Well we’ve already had two bars shut back down because of employees testing positive, thanks Miami trash! Make that freaking roadblock permanent.

Quarantine was my favorite time I’ve ever had down here, a lot of people felt that way. Given it couldn’t last forever but it was amazing. And I like regular tourists but Miami is another level.

Wonder how the WOKE movement would’ve dealt with Vlad the Impaler or vice versa? Pretty sure he’d have lined a roadway in their honor.

Seems we’ve waken up and the Covid has transported us back to Salem, Mass. At least it has the journalist and social media.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on racism this morning?

Hope the NBA restart doesn’t devolve into a disaster so we can actually have some sports to talk about.

Going back into the office two days a week after July 4th. Masks required. Head of the division had a party last week at her lake house and she tested positive for Covid. So glad she’s in charge.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think the NBA reboot will not go that well. Those dudes have been off since March, and I assume it's going to take longer than expected for them to get their legs and shot back. I expect it to look a little sloppier than usual. I think baseball is going to miss the Spring Training prep, but it will be less noticeable.

When it comes to threats on here from other posters, would you prefer to be threatened with "legal action" or threatened with "getting your *** beat"?

I’m afraid of neither. I actually want this clown to take me to court so the judge can laugh his *** off at him for wasting the courts time.
