You will have to show me a better college basketball gif: thank you Marshall

Drummond nailed it. This Kentucky team is good enough to beat any team in the country on a given night, but too inconsistent to win 6 do-or-die games in a row.

This team ain’t winning a title.

Well who is consistent enough to win 6 in a row this year?

BBdK points this out every year. Look at the teams who’ve made a F4. Putting ceilings on college basketball teams is kinda silly.

Let's chase UCLA.

You people are crazy.
Our next challenge is to chase UCLA’s 11 titles,” Calipari wrote. “I hope you understand that it’s going to very difficult. We’ve won eight titles since 1948 and now we’re going to try to win four more. This could take more than a decade, but so what? Let’s chase it.”

Who are Maxey, Quick and Juzang? F off.

I very well am probably being a whiny, entitled *****. I don't dislike any of the kids on this team. Every team has a dry spell.

I am just irritated with Calipari and how he assembles teams. College basketball sucks this year and we could have stolen a title if we had a decent squad. This team is not that at all and it directly falls on Calipari's shoulders. Maybe we shouldn't be a turnstile for 18 year olds to either go to the NBA or get lost in the ether. It sure as hell would be nice to have a few more veterans like Richards and Quickly this year, rather than being totally reliant on the quality of any given recruiting class to determine how good we will be.

But whatever. This team is what it is. Has a puncher's chance against anyone and is also absolutely mediocre. So blah.

^As I was saying yesterday, it's a damn shame that as many as 7 of Cal's 9 UK teams that didn't win titles would have been odds-on favorites this year - or close to it.

Yes, it's always a crapshoot, but one would think that at least 1 or 2 of those 7 would panned out.

So I take what Hank is saying is that as well as Cal recruits, we'd be ready to pounce in a year where everyone else is down and the field is otherwise wide open.

And as I also said yesterday, timing is everything, dammit. Just ask John Wooden and Sam Gilbert.

Is there a reasonable scenario that makes us a clear cut favorite this year?

Keldon or Baker staying?

Getting
Wiseman?
McDaniels?
Stewart?
Edwards?

The worst collection of College basketball teams in the 50+ years of watching. NCAA and AAU have absolutely ruined the college game. Sad thing is there isn’t a fix in sight. March Madness might actually live up to its name this year.

Last night I watched the ‘95 matchup between UNC and UVA on ESPN Classic. That game looked like a different sport. Clean. Fast. Well officiated. Extra Possessions. Non micromanaged. Watching that made me forget how much I hated that UNC team.

It’s because the coaches back then were kinder and less controlling.

I do not disagree. Coach K was universally considered a sad-sack choker before he started winning titles.

In this college environment where the refs suck, that is a more consistent strategy. It’s hard to argue against him when they are moving the line back and we are hitting 80% from the FT line, right?

Also, I don’t think he wants it ugly, I think he is playing to the rules just like he did the 1 and done before everyone else did.

The thing is Cal came out early in the week and said he was going to let the guards go "downhill" like teams were doing to us. Today we take a **** load of 3's, make 2, and Cal says "see, i told ya."

So what is it? Ya going to drive it or ya gonna hoist it up? Cant have it both ways.

While the whole “knocking on the door” idea sounds great in theory, the reality is this: In the last 60+ college basketball seasons, Kentucky has only won one national title when it wasn’t the preseason consensus #1 team in the country.

We didn’t split with UNC in 2012 because UNC was #1 in the AP and Coaches preseason poll.

We were #2 in both, same as this year. GOOD SIGN I GUESS!

Every time UK has won a title in the last 62 years, they were basically a top 3 team all season long. Even the 1998 team (even with the home loss to Ole Miss) never fell out of the top 10.

The randomness of college basketball is great, but history says we only win championships with dominant teams.

2019 Virginia. Preseason #5 - Never got lower then #5 all year
2018 Villanova. Preseason #6 - Never got lower then #5 all year, which was the Week 2 poll
2017 North Carolina. Preseason #6 - Got as low as #14
2016 Villanova: Preseason #11 - Got as low as one week at #17, got all the way back up to #1 by beginning of February
2015 Duke: Preseason #4 - Never got lower then #5 all year
2014 Connecticut: Whatever
2013 Louisville*: Preseason #2* - Got down as low as 12*
2012 Kentucky: Preseason #2 - Never got lower then #3
2011 Connecticut: Preseason unranked - Jumped as high as #5 by December, fell to #21 - Kemba went off in Big East Tourney - #9 going into tourney
2010 Duke: Preseason #9 - Got as low as 10th

So I wouldn't necessarily say it's a Kentucky thing. National Champs in general spend the entire year in the Top 15
