I'm a fan of Telluride, have to fly into Montrose and take a shuttle but you have to do that with Breck as well.

Tuesday Randoms:

-Kobe: Noted fanboy, one of my favorite athletes of all time, to the chagrin of many around here through the years. The guy rubbed a lot of people wrong along the way, especially early -- but damn, if he didn't accomplish most everything he said he would & more. One of the greatest competitors ever, and no doubt the closest thing there has ever been to MJ, or will be in our lifetimes imo.

While hard to watch, it's really cool to see the reverence and respect from essentially everyone. The guy was truly brilliant, and seemed well on his way to bigger and better things in the next chapter of his life. I don't get caught up in celebrity deaths, but this one is just different. Still doesn't seem real. RIP Mamba. :weary:

-The more I think about it, the more pissed I get that Whitney left. While I do think this year it's likely addition by subtraction, I hate seeing guys like him leave. Just imagine if IQ & Nick had done the same? I wish him well, but truly believe he made a poor choice, especially considering the timing.

-Hit the Sportsbook Saturday with a large group. First big UK game out there, and it was an awesome atmopshere. Reminded me of watching games at Varsity Blue in college, only with live betting.

^ the Derby City Classic billiards tourney was going on. Was aware they hosted that, but had no idea how big of a deal it was. People from all over the country, all carrying their little cue cases over their shoulders like Bow & Arrows. The entire place was basically a Pool Expo - pretty cool.

-Bored with anything Netflix/Prime has to offer, so finally bit the plug on HBO for a bit. So far, I've knocked out:

-Succession
-The Jinx
-The Night Of (halfway through)

Guess True Detective S1 will be next. Was S2 really THAT bad?

Imagine I'll wait for sports off season to hit some of the longer classics. I've seen The Wire & Sopranos, and the first 2 seasons of Deadwood 15+ years ago I'd guess...so could also watch that again like new. Open to recs, prefer crime/family drama/suspense.

-I'm all for organic food, try to buy as much as possible when available, especially meats & veggies. But I've made an executive decision that it's only JIF peanut butter for me from here on out - Life is too short for that other ********. 1-2 tsp every week or two w/ some saltines is about all I indulge. Bring on the palm oil and 2 grams of added sugar. :fire: Extra crunchy ftw

-Amazing how hard it is for UK to move up in the polls/metrics this season, but I guess we deserve it. Even if we'd just not lost to Evansville but still had the others we'd be in pretty damn good shape. :uzi:

-If you were a complete mountain newbie, and could only visit one Colorado ski town for a long weekend, which would it be? Friendly slopes, convenient lodging, walkable entertainment, etc.

(0. Deadwood Rewatch)
1. The Leftovers
2. Boardwalk Empire
3. Westworld
4. Rome

Before all that, stop kidding yourself and watch Eastbound and Down in its entirety.

Breck is very easy to get to. It’s probably a 2 hour shuttle in the winter from Denver. Telluride is kinda in the middle of nowhere. Same with Steamboat.

Telluride is a 1:15 shuttle from Montrose. But Montrose only has about 6-7 flights a day.

True Detective Season One is probably the best tv of all time. Season Two is utter garbage that shouldn't be watched by anyone for any reason. Season Three is very, very good.

You're welcome, winja.

Local Perspective:

* Breckenridge: Used to be our go-to mountain, but pretty much hate it now. Usually windy on the mountain (nickname Breckenwind), especially on Peak 6, the T-Bar and Imperial. Huge mountain, but mostly wide and short, so you'll spend half your life waiting in lift lines. Town is Breck is dope though and accessing the mountain from the gondola lot is easy.

* Vail: Easily the best mountain on the I-70 corridor. If you can ski ungroomed blacks, the back bowls are where to want to be. Not very crowded on the back bowls, but can get packed on the front slopes. Vail as a town is kind of overrated, especially given the expense

* Beaver Creek: Solid mountain with a lot of variety, especially the Birds of Prey runs. The village is really bougie though, definitely the high-end spot of the Vail resorts, but pretty awesome. Can also usually find a place to rent between Vail and Beaver to hit both mountains.

* Steamboat: Worship :raised_hands:. Gets the most powder in Colorado. Only about a 3hr drive from DIA (i.e., about an hour longer than getting to Vail). Solid mountain and awesome town with good restaurants. Will definitely get a "locals" vibe there, which isn't as touristy as the other I-70 mountains.

* Winterpark and Copper: Neither are on the Epic (Vail) Pass, so tend to be a little less crowded. Winterpark is a hidden gem, and the Mary Jane bowl is pretty epic.

* When you spend a decade marketing your program as the quickest/surest way to the NBA, stuff like Whitney happens. It sucks, but it's inevitable. Dad has dollar signs in his eyes.

* The bracket will look completely different than all the current projections, of course, but every one I see appears less than formidable for UK. Lunardi's latest has us as the #4 in the East. If seeds hold (they won't) our path to the Final Four would be (13) North Texas, (5) Creighton, (1) SDSU, and (2) Seton Hall. And LOL at Calipari already bitching about UK getting screwed 7 weeks before Selection Sunday, a week after saying he wouldn't ***** about UK getting screwed this year.

* Betting on Hagans to show out Saturday after dropping a gigantic turd at midcourt in the Elite 8 last year. Kid shows up when he has to. (Other than in the Elite 8 last year, when he dropped a gigantic turd at midcourt.)

* What a **** product this has become.

You can add A-Basin to your last point, but yeah, if you can, head to Steamboat. Well worth the extra hour.

I also do not understand the charge rule, but WCC has explained to me that if it's against UK it's ********, but if it's on the opponent it's a good call.

Hope this helps.

-So Vandy has lost 24 straight SEC games (26 counting tournament)? That's incredible.

Or fly into Hayden and it’s a 30 minute drive which is super convenient. That’s what we always do. And I’ll throw a vote in for Steamboat as well. Breck and Winterpark after that probably.

[laughing] at someone thinking Tubby would have landed Lebron.

It was a joke. Brandon Stroud was being sarcastic saying he voted for Lebron. I then said "Well Lebron once said IF he went to college he would have attended UK", that is close enough. Nobody was really serious, and nobody mentioned anything about Tubby having the ability to sign him.

I guess it’s going to take a serious injury to a star player from some unathletic goober sliding in underneath him to trigger a change.

Dude. Just fly into Denver first class on United, take a private Cessna into Ouray, book a helicopter ride to the top of Imogene Pass and hit the back country slopes. There’s a few off the grid hunting lodges you can rent that come with their own staff, and you can either snowshoe into Silverton or hitch a snowmobile ride with a local. They have a brewery there that’s open seasonally, on weekends from 2-4pm. Great hunting in case you get hungry and want to try elk or moose for dinner, too.

Enjoy your romantic getaway!

Ouray is a cool town. Probably wouldn't want to spend more than a day though, so keep the pilot around.
