Damn Bernie - you left 502 for OT? That’s when me and Mrs Dougan arrived. We were supposed to meet her mom’s group friends at Gustavo’s, but I told her I had to meet a new friend from the internet at 502. Then you weren’t there which led to multiple lines like this: “No seriously honey, he’s real”.

I may be a little selfish, but I think Richards has a lot to gain from coming back next year even if he’s projected as a first rounder. He’s getting there, but I think he’s got a ways to go in terms of his post moves. He currently makes up for some footwork deficiencies with his size, a nice J and a soft touch, but I think it would be great for him to work on that for one more year against college competition as opposed to being thrown to the wolves in the NBA.

The crazy part is Nick did all that while Cal
ignored him for almost the entire second half.

And EJ, too. I’m no EJ fan, but his length and specifically his ability to feed Nick down low was a key part to the first half. I guess he got 4 fouls or something? We just completely switched what we were doing, and looked very stupid because of it.

A long time ago Nick Richards would be considered a prototypical college basketball success story. Big man late to the game develops over time and improves his NBA stock. I miss those days. Seems more real than the OAD mentality and philosophy. I hope we have more Nick Richards in the pipeline. Who knows, maybe even EJ Montgomery makes the leap next year. I look forward to finding out.

Big men are always the slowest to mature in basketball but I'm wracking my brain to remember someone who showed so little early on to jump to probable All-American. Nazr is the only one that comes close that I can think of. Nick showed flashes in the Bahama games before last season that even Dakich commented he thought he would a key component in 2018-19 but then it didn't happen.

- Still skeptical about his draft stock in this climate, but would make me happy and proud if Richards was a 1st rounder.

Got to think he’s front runner for SEC POY nonetheless.

- Hagans, man- what an effort defensively on that last possession.

- Love the rotation now.

Nazr played for the JV team (along with Frank Vogel, Cameron Mills, Jason Lathrem, etc) in 96. He was the worst scholarship player I’ve ever seen. I remember him struggling against Oak Hill in Memorial Coliseum — dribbling the ball off his foot, getting swatted repeatedly....he was terrible.

We will meet up soon to prove we are both real.

Told my wife an "internet friend" may show up. She's used to it by now.

The thing about OAD is I don't begrudge these kids in the least. If someone is going to give you a guaranteed contract to pay multi-millions, you can't say no and take the risk of injuries or your stock drop. But freshmen are supposed to suck.
You learn by practising, watching, waiting, getting gametime in mop-up time. Wayne Turner was a HS All-American and he sucked as a freshman, Magloire had to pick up a few minutes here and there behind Mohammed, Sheppard was (to me anyway) a sub par player for 3.5 years and made the leap to legend in the last six weeks of his career.
We have to watch the learning curve in real-time every year now and it makes for ugly basketball.

SAY THAT TO MY FACE AND NOT ONLINE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS - Catsfanbg probably

We aren't great but neither is anyone else.

So after a big UK win, your first post is thinking about me. I am both honored and a bit flattered by it. But, if I am going to live in your head rent free, by God get it right. it is "catsfanbgky".

Oh, and EAD.

I just got the news flash on my phone.
Took my breath away.

He was traded for Vlade Divac, for gods sake.

Thank god GYERO wasn’t around back then, because I can’t even explain how vocally I argued that a kid our age couldn’t jump from HS straight to the pros with success. Preposterous notion at the time.
