~Nice BBN turnout in LV. Although the Utah game was a small crowd overall, they represented well as usual, and the cancer stories during the breaks definitely brought some tears. Cool event, and it was fun to see UK fans all over town….had a few bartenders ask if they always travel this well to follow the team…lol. Even I know that answer.

~Mrs. Wynn on the front row for the Utah game was interesting.

~Mickelson, “Bear” from Game Day, Herbstreit and a few others rolling in a private room at Cut on Friday night. Helluva steak that place has and the service/experience is A+

~+300 trip…would have been more had I not been part of the “bet on black” crowd that watched red hit 11 straight times on the wheel late Sat evening. Ridiculous.

~Nice Christmas decorations at the better resorts.

LV is always an awesome 4 day trip and the hoops was just icing on the cake. Looking forward to reading Pti criticize it and the game in London next year.

I feel like some elder statesman from GYERO (Century Cat maybe) should get a 5 minute meeting with Barnhart to explain how UKO attending UK games at a made for TV event in Vegas illustrates literally everything that sucks about UK basketball right now.

That fact really does tell the whole story.

-The odds on a roulette table are the same every single spin :joy: - doesn't matter if it was 47 reds in a row previously.

-I've always found the ratio of people who say they play "by the book" in Blackjack, but actually know it and do are about like those who claim to hit regular 300 yard drives.

-Trip was a blast. Had a suite for the Utah game, which I left at the U12 of the 2H, and bailed on the OSU game in favor of the home sportsbook. Our ******** team wasn't going to ruin my trip.

Was out there w/ some other golf buddies, all newbies, so it was fun showing them the ropes and feeding off of their energy...they were just in awe of it all, and gambled like maniancs. We hit every single casino on the Strip between Venetian to MGM, and spent an entire evening/night & Fremont. Cromwell ended up being home base though, they probably spent 20 hours in there :100points: - imagine they'll be getting some nice offers in the mail.

-Learned a new game myself, as they played the 3 Card Poker Progessive tables a bunch. Really fun, simple, & slower paced - will be a nice addition to my rotation.

-Really enjoyed staying at Paris - love the vibe/lighting in there, and always several $15 3:2 tables available at any hour - which is rare on the strip.

-BBN was everywhere.

-Bowl trip sounds terrible right now. :weary:

~ First time staying at the Aria. Upgraded to a corner suite on my wife's "Government" rate. :raised_hands: Threw some dice across the table from Cal, gabbed with Barnhart for a bit, and ran into a few players strolling around the casino. Always cool to interact with the team, even after a horrible loss to Utah.

~ Craps tables absolutely destroyed me. Down $900 on the week. :weary: Salvaged to make a good bit of it back on the blackjack and poker tables. Maybe down $300 for the trip...

~ MGM Sport Book app ---> worship. Colorado proposition passed in November legalizing sports gambol. MGM won't get a license, but hoping Ameristar can put together a good app.

~ Wife delivered on reservations at two ridiculous off-strip restaurants: (i) Raku - sweet authentic Japanese spot, James Beard semi-finalist for 4 straight year, $75 tasting menu; and (ii) EDO Gastro Tapas & Wine - Spanish tapas by a Catalan chef, $50 tasting menu with a $180 bottle of wine for $60 after the somm opened the wrong bottle.

~ Eatlay was disappointing, especially if you've been to either in NYC or Chicago.

~ Quick jaunt to Bishop Gorman for a couple games at the Tarkanian Classic. Not completely sold on Devin Askew at the next level, but legit handles, sees the floor well, and good size for a PG. Easily the best player on the floor, but Mater Dei completely overpowered a team out of Oklahoma. The Sheldon vs. Riverdale Baptist game had some dudes, including Marcus Bagley (Marvin III's brother). The chirping from both sides was on point....

~ Merry Christmas, ********.

* Friend's GoFundMe started with a goal of $20,000. It's currently at $36k, less than 24 hours in.

* Would like to start a similar fund for Chase to go F himself.

* Ryan Fitzpatrick has played for 15 years, with 8 different teams, and made $63 million. Not bad for a 7th rounder.

* Kentucky drops to No. 19 in the AP Poll

[laughing][laughing]

Kinda what I was thinking. We're about the 20th best team in the country right now. :grimace:

* Guess I need to start my Christmas shopping. Just need to buy for my 2 nephews, my mom, my older brother and his wife. Plus a couple of little things for the lass. Got plenty of time.

* Too much wine. Not groggy hungover, I just feel like I've been smacked in the face with a shovel.

* Good to hear everyone had such nice vacations this week, and the basketball games were just ancillary.

* UKO is a dork.

BJ Boston was in that event as well.

I usually just watch a single mix tape on all our incoming guys, but I've watched the crew coming in a lot. Boston is a star. He'd help our team this year right now. I think he leads us in scoring next year. He reminds me a lot of Tayshaun Prince.

I'm worried we don't have a point guard though. Askew is nice but he's not elite and he's gonna reclassify. We're starting to learn that these reclassifying guys usually take more time.

College basketball is NOT broken. Our style is. Watch Gonzaga, Oregon, Auburn, hell even Dayton. Those teams are very good, and very fun to watch.

take a player like Kahlil Whitney, put him on a Gonzaga, you would see much different results. Whitney does not fit what Cal is trying to do. He is NOT a half court, pick and roll, pick and pop player. he is a athletic freak that needs space. The make up of our roster is not a half court style. Maxey and Quickley even Juzang would be a lot better in transition as a trailer spotting up for three. No time to think, just catch and launch. Guys are tight, shooting it late in the shoot clock and not much space. Easy to see why they miss.

I'm no college basketball, but Whitney has no discernible basketball skills from what I can tell. There is literally not a single thing he does well - or at least he hasn't shown it yet. I can guarantee you this, though - he won't play a single minute at the 3 in the NBA. So why we continue to play him there is beyond me.

I'll tell you who's a better example of what catsfanbgky is talking about, is Juzang. I don't know how or why, but that dude would be averaging 2-3 threes a game and 10ppg at Zaga. TMFS.

Whitney was so overhyped. He should only be utilized like Montrez Harrell was in college just hang around the baseline sitting picks and getting the occasional lob, grab rebounds and play defense.
Sadly the last 2 he’s not good at either.

Whitney, like Hami before him, can’t handle the ball...sort of an issue in the DRIBBLE DRIVE OFFENSE.

Cal says he deserves to start, plays him at 3 and the very first time he touches the ball dude takes it right from him on his second dribble, he then fouls and falls down.

I guess my thing with Juzang would be that I think he will eventually shoot the ball at an elite clip, it’s difficult to see Whitney developing a reliable shot or handle in season.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but what do you think Whitney would do on Gonzaga? Or with space? He can't dribble or shoot.

Catch a lot of lobs and dunks. And to respond to Century Cats post within this one, He would not play at Gonzaga, that is true. But what I was getting at is a system like their's where athletes can get out in transition and space. Not talking about leading the break, but finishing it. One dribble, go up strong, catch lobs, or put back misses as a trailer. Hell look at Hami in the NBA, totally different player. Now he will never be a star, but he is becoming a solid role player and finishes at the rim. Letting Whitney hang out around the 3 point line and jack jumper after jumper is just wasting valuable minutes for someone who deserves more playing time. If nothing else, to see if someone has the ability to fill those minutes. Whitney has had his chance and proved he can't, let someone else get the run. Can't be any worse.

“A windmill will kill many bald eagles,” he said, according to Mediate. “After a certain number, they make you turn the windmill off, that is true. By the way, they make you turn it off. And yet, if you killed one, they put you in jail. That is OK. But why is it OK for windmills to destroy the bird population?”

I will use a Gonzaga player as a example.

Brandon Clarke. Not a shooter, was considered a "easy basket weapon".

In transition - ranked in the 90th percentile
Off cuts - ranked in the 82nd percentile
Put backs - ranked in the 98th percentile
As the roll man - 78th percentile

NBA scouting report before the draft :
"Not a highly skilled player"
"lacks shooting ability" 4/15 from three.
"measures more like a wing than a PF or post player"

Bottom line, put Brandon Clarke in a offense like UK's, he would be the same as what we are getting from Whitney. And that was his final year of college report, not his freshman year. Whitney will never be a shooter, you either play him to his strengths, or play someone else that fits what you are trying to do.

Long answer to "what would Whitney do at Gonzaga ?" To say ride the bench, his freshman year that might be true, but we will never know because we will never see him in a system that fits his game. Easy to set back and say "would not play." We would be saying the same thing if we had Brandon Clarke on this UK team. "Bench him", "he sucks". "this guy is terrible" "overrated", "The Dragon?" Duh, he is a round peg in a square hole.

Are you all referring to NBA playoff team starter and draft pick Hami Diallo? Same guy?

Yeah. The same guy that was *awful* here in 70% of his games, and that literally EVERYONE mocked about his NBA prospects. Our guys and their NBA success really fogs many of GYEROs memories regarding their play here.

He was certainly better than Whitney, but so is everyone.

Brandon Clarke was 22 at Gonzaga. Whitney is 18. I know we're all saying he can't develop, but I think he can probably do something if we give him 3-4 years.

The problem is we all know that unlike at other schools, Whitney will be long gone by the time he's 22. Where will he go if not the NBA? Who knows. But somewhere else. They all go. If they don't become first round picks in their first year at places like UNC, Duke, Kansas, the silver lining is those schools get them for 3-4 years. Look at guys like Azubuike. So many guys at UNC. Unlike at those schools guys at Kentucky move on if they're marginal 2nd round picks just because "Welp, they can't improve their stock anymore." or "They've just been here long enough." or "Some kids just don't like school."

Unlike at those other schools it would be shocking to see him as a senior at Kentucky. And yeah, he'd be a totally different player by then most likely.

I keep reading about how Cal has gotten complacent, he's lazy, he's lost his passion and fire, the game has passed him by......nonsense. He's still the same guy, and still working like crazy to recruit the best players possible. Problem is, the game is changing at a rapid pace, and I don't think he's looking at this from the cliche'd 40,000 foot perspective. Some of you aren't old enough to remember this, but even the great Zion Williamson didn't make the Final Four. Kevin Durant was bounced in the 2nd round.

I've never felt more confident in saying that we need older, experienced players. Enough of this one-and-done, players first nonsense. I'd give my left nut for even marginally talented guys like Dom Hawkins, or Ravi Moss, or Marquis Estill. Just solid players guys who know how to f'ing play basketball. I think we're in store for a team filled with those types winning the championship this season. If there's ever going to be another mid major win the Big Dance, it's up for grabs right now.

On the opposite end of the spectrum.....why is Tyler Ulis wasting his time in the NBADL? It's abundantly clear he's not a legit NBA player, but I've gotta imagine he could go make a bunch of money playing overseas for the next 15-20 years.

sidenote: Wenyen Freaking Gabriel has played in 7 NBA games. I will never understand that league.

  • Odds of not hitting black on 11 consecutive rolls is ~0.08%; my understanding is that his crew continually bet on black throughout that streak as opposed to only the 11th spin.
  • PTI never followed up on whether his friends had insurance. I assume they did, so congrats on helping pay off their deductible. Just kidding man. I’m sure it’s more like the final scene in “It’s a Wonderful Life”. [eyeroll]

Sorry, I didn’t bother to ask just shortly after their house burned to the ground if my friends had insurance. I assume they do, so the generosity just before Christmas is probably a huge waste.

How does the go fund me fit into taxable income? Be a shame if that boosted them into a higher tax bracket.
