Thinking about starting a support group for the tireless scribes who have to attend UK football games for free and then stay up late to write about what happened and then get paid for it. They're basically white collar coal miners.

God Bless those people, man. I don't know how they do it.

I dunno. I'm pretty empathetic to journalistic concerns about OMGZ ANOTHER NIGHT GAME??? But maybe if your main source of income is writing/analyzing/commenting on the state university's athletic programs, maybe living in close proximity to Lexington would be the call.

-De'Coldest Jaun, that's amazing. LSU Football just gets it. So damn jelly of the whole thing. Best I can do is really embrace the Saints, that's my new goal.

-JDrum... what a dude. Lot of UK guys coming and going over the years but none better than old JDrum. TMFS.

-Chair backs upstairs look great at Rupp. The old place is coming along nicely from even 5-6 years ago. Looks like that entertainment place is about to open before long and once the convention center and park are complete the whole area will be unrecognizable. Good for LEX.

-Rupp crowd is a bore unless free chicken is on the line. Mercy. Feel like we could promote a few other things and really keep the buzz going.

-Believe Matt mentioned it but figuring out how to get the audio broadcast to the people inside of games, similar to golf and tennis, would be a huge addition. Some type of streaming through wifi so you could use your own device and buds. Charge for it. Can you even buy old school portable radios any more?

-Is the NCAA actually being reasonable about the likeness issue? AP story indicates they are open to allowing "some" changes. Wholeheartedly agree with a slow process for these chages rather than a bandaid approach.

-Chili hankering is firmly over. [sick]

As opposed to the taupe corrugated steel warehouse with giant envelopes on the side?
Which as what to do with anything? They were going to renovate it regardless of what the design was going to be. Just pointing out what they chose looks horrible and will probably age even worse

Well, compared to what it did look like, and without going bankrupting like YUM, I think it looks good.

compared to what it did look like,
Once they decided to renovate, what it looks like now became a moot point. It's going to be gone regardless of what was chosen to replace it.

And yes, the 70s was also rife with disgusting architecture; exemplified by Rupp. We're just replacing it with a shinier form of disgusting architecture. If Joey has any taste whatsoever, he'll affirm this

That's never gonna happen. They might paint the corrugated steel white like that, but the other stuff? Not in our lifetime.

Still, a nice white building with some blue accents would be cool. Maybe get some Lil C's pizza instead of Hunt's. We'd pretty much be living the dream.

-i will say that the current exterior gfrc rotunda and the interior walls/ceilings on the hyatt side of rupp is beautiful...i bet whomever had that contract is a sexy bastard with impeccable taste.

-the cladding materials alone on the high street rotunda were north of 250k. The gel coat ceiling "system" over the escalators was over 350k iirc. 18 years ago.

So we're building something that is currently cheesy and will be outdated in 45 years? Gotcha. Regardless, going to look a helluvalot better down there than this..

How old is that picture? Are the pay phones actually still there?

Clearly a DJ/hype man is needed at Rupp for the sake of the atmosphere. All you blue hairs...MAKE SOME NOIIISEE!

It’s almost like everything becomes cheesy and dated because the march of time begets new technologies that allow for innovation in architecture that all have the same advantages and constraints. The best part is when the trend comes back around to inform the formal imitation of the bygone forms and assemblies that were necessitated by the limited technology available at the time. This leads to most people living in environs where almost every “detail” object is an imitation of a real former object - all in the name of recreating authenticity. Then most people marvel at each other’s artificial authenticity and try to come up with some more of their own. It’s hard life to live in a movie set and not even realize it, IMO.

I like what the "new" Rupp will look like.

Pitch: Envision Superman's home. Not that sack of **** in space, but the one that's freezing cold.

Board: Oh, where he killed Zod and his re.....idiot friend.

Pitch: Yes! Don't forget the sexy broad with the crazy eye brows.

Board: Sold! Next new business....big *** hole.....

-i bet joey wears black turtleneck sweaters. If he doesn't, he should. Alan Paine has some nice offerings.

-i enjoy modern architecture. Especially for public spaces(museums/performance venues). That said brick/stone/wood are timeless...if done properly. Ex: Memorial Coliseum is dated but beautiful. Things are considered "classic" for a reason.

-modern architrcture in housing is beautiful in the right setting. Unfortunately most people get it wrong and it looks cheap.

-progress for the sake of progress is rarely a good thing.
