I mean, I’m not typically a huge nit picker with KSR, but for some reason the “WE’RE 1-0 ON THE SEASON” was incredibly annoying to me.

I hope Richards isn't out long, but part of me *is* excited that Cal's only big guy went 2-7 on layups against Georgetown College so he is going to have to go small.

SMASHCUT to June when EJ Montgomery is picked 30th overall and Cal says "Remember when a lot of Basketball Bennies wanted me to sit this kid just because he missed some layups in OCTOBER? WOWWW!"

-Heck of a weekend for ol' real dad.

-Keeneland Friday afternoon and Ruby's that night.

-Saturday small tailgate with some great folks. Sat around making fun of the people who weren't there and eating chili. Mix in a little horsey gambol and pumpkin pie shots.

-Bowden is a damn stud. What a season for that kid and just turning the entire season around while putting the team on his back. Things could've gone really sideways after USC blew our doors off. Now you just have to ride with him. Mix in a few scripted drives for Smith if you want to keep the Ds off balance but we have a QB1.

-Defense has really developed this season. We get through this season and make a bowl, they're going to be hell on wheels next year.

-I understand why people skipped the game, and we were pretty well under cover, BUT those are the games you always remember. Said it the whole game, that's one I really missed being in the Nutter Endzone drinking bourbon with the WHOLE crew.

-Thought the BBall game was pretty solid. He was obviously tinkering a lot as we saw very little Maxey-Hagans-Quickley on the floor together but you can tell they'll be a lot to deal with when he goes to that lineup. Hounds.

-Only real disappointment was EJ. Trying to finesse every bunny. Stop being a ***** and use the f*cking glass, man. Big square on the backboard, aim there!! Finish those 4 close range shots and he has 13-5 with a couple blocks. GeeeezeLouise. Hopefully he gives us enough to get us by MSU w/out Richards. If he doesn't then play Brooks/Sestina the lion share.

-Speaking of Richards, in the limited action I thought he looked as good as he ever has. Hitting boards, blocking shots, 2 hook shots, out switching on guards. Hopefully, normal sprain.

-Sestina appears to be a really important pick up. Double Double in 25 minutes and the only bright spot on the boards. When he comes out to set the screen it just opens everything up. He and Maxey are going to have a ball with that. Put Juzang or Quick on the wing and pull the old RPO style triple option.

-Brooks :eyes: what a ball player. Mercy. Would like to see him grab more than 1 rebound and eliminate stupid fouls but he's going to be playing a ton.

-Juzang and Whitney seem to have a ways to go. Whitney needs to commit to boards and d while the offense comes to him. Juzang needs to hit shots by the bucket and not be a swinging door on D.

- Hagans and Maxey are relentless on both ends, and IQ looked terrific. Three tough two-way guards.

- Obviously, EJ and Whitney struggled, but I liked what I saw from Brooks. Sestina is going to be solid.

- Juzang has a sweet stroke but he doesn’t have the game of Herro. Will need to be a guy spotting up.

- Cats are fast and athletic, and seem to be able to shoot the ball. Should be a fun team despite some warts.

- My lineup:

Hagans
Maxey
Quickley
Brooks
Richards

Whitney looked lost - dude appears to be a bit of a project.

FIRST GAME ATKOT but I was really surprised at how awkward he looked putting the ball on the floor.

I won't need much more than 1 exhibition to make my official knee jerk proclamation, but he's on my radar...

Fortunately, with Keion Brooks being a helluva basketball player, Cal won't need Whitney to do much other than not **** the bed/rebound/yada yada...

BIG TIME YOUTH SOCCER TOURNEY I THINK I HAVE PNEUMONIA NOW RANDOMS:

(1) Despite the harrowing conditions in Cincy, the "lads" had a good time on the "pitch" this weekend. The weather on Saturday, as you are aware, was absolutely miserable. But the children (and parents) powered through.

(2) The parents (and coach) for my youngest kid's team like to throw down, so we had a good time watching the Cayuts beat Mizzshiti while drinking a bourbon or three. One of the best things about youth sports is when you find a good parent group and actually manage to become friends with some of them. Makes these trips a lot easier.

(3) It's also fun watching the kids run around like idiots in the hotel, hanging out, and just being kids. This is the kind of thing they'll remember and cherish as they get older, so I'm glad they're making these memories.

(4) Youngest kid's team did fine. The highlight was beating the "big" Louisville team on Saturday and watching two of their parents get ejected in the first half. Serious business! My kid filled in as an emergency goalie and managed to bail his team out a time or two. He wore a toboggan and, with his wild-*** hair, resembled Jim Anchower from the Onion. Which only added to my enjoyment.

(5) My oldest kid's team actually won their tournament, to the shock of everyone. They ran away with the title game to the point that they were able to move their best defensive players up to forward to actually try to score. Every once in a while, you'll see your kid(s) do something that makes you think that maybe you're doing a good job as a parent. My kid had a wide open net but passed it to one of those kids so he could score. Then, when they drew a penalty near the end the game, he and his teammates (who usually fight over who gets to do the kick) instead made the other defender - a super tiny Mexican kid who would fight a bear if you asked him to but would never think about actually attempting to score - step up and take it. He knocked it home and they all mobbed him. It was his only goal of the season and his first in years. May have gotten a little dusty out there at that point ...

(6) I know no one has read this far so eat **** go cats

Bowden has been terrific. Saturday night around 11:30 I was enjoying a nightcap and decided to bump him ahead of Sir Randall Cobb. His agility in the open field is just spellbinding, man.

THAT SAID, one day Mark Stoops isn't going to be our head coach, and we're all going to fully appreciate the defensive unit he's built. Mercy. And the young guys we're redshirting (i.e. JJ Weaver)? Lolz. Write his name down. Dude will be All SEC.

That Tennessee game is going to be :fire::fire::fire:.

* Great weekend.

Friday - talked the fan out of a Costco trip in favor of pizza and Incredibles 2 at home.

Saturday - Watched my Buckeyes beat up on Wisconsin and the LSU/Auburn game while grilling burgers and dogs for about 30 people. Great little end of the season soccer party for my kids.

Then I watched the Cats dismantle Mizzou while drinking copious amounts of Down Home Bourbon.

Sunday - Watched the roundball Wildcats fiddle around with those GTown Tigers from my new seats (still uppers and still bench) at Rupp. In the 2nd half I got to go down and sit with GYERO royalty. It was fun watching George watch the game.

* Thoughts on my first look at this year's squad...

Quickley, Hagans and Maxey played pretty well. Loved IQ's confident stroke. I don't love Maxey just pushing the ball in the rim's general direction from time to time.

I liked what I saw from Brooks and Richards. Hopefully Nick makes a quick recovery.

Whitney looked really bad.

EJ was disinterested. Make a touching layup and grab a rebound, *****.

The pick and pop with Sestina is going to be fun to watch. He was a coach on the floor. Thank God we picked him up.

Juzang didn't make much of an impact, didn't get a great read on him. But I love that shot.

My lineup...

Hagans
Maxey
Quickley
Sestina
Richards

Lots of minutes for Brooks at the 3 & 4.
EJ gets minutes at the 4 & 5.
Juzang plays the 2 & 3.

* Bowden. OL. The whole Defense. - great effort.

Whitney has a bit of young Poythress awkwardness in him it seems, and I expect similar frustrations with his game. Guy needs to just focus on slowing down, gathering himself, and using his athleticism - every single one of his attempts was rushed & weak AF.

-In what was likely going to be a bridge year all along, if we can get to 7 or even 8 wins given what's happened on our roster & at QB, that would be nothing short of incredible, imo.

Also, I'm not sure I've ever seen a player more excited to be playing than Bowden at QB right now. Joy to watch, kid is just special.

-the fighting mms 7th grade girls team went 2-2 on Saturday...1st Fayette county team in years (according to coach)to make the "winners bracket" in this tourney. The rest of the state starts at the beginning of school and have played 20+ games to this point, fcps schools tryouts were 3 weeks ago. Seeded 7th of 8, but whatevs. Much better than the 8th grade tourney she played in last week. These "county/mountain" schools have *programs*.

-caught the 2nd half of the missou game on the couch. That was an *** whooping...our young men needed that.

-early exit sunday meant much needed downtime for old dad. Sunday afternoon naps are a rare luxury.

-homemade beef stew over biscuits.

-won't know a thing about the bball cats til late december.

-little tv time last night. I knew that Irish commie bastard would be the death of lady sybil...sad.

- LSAT and I had date night Saturday so I couldn't make the game but I've always maintained inclement weather games have been the most fun and memorable.I bet the tailgates were a hoot and all those TV shots of the fans in the stands were hilarious; ppl just grinning ear-to-ear, high fives, bouncing around, generally not giving AF. Wish I could have been there.

- Oats and Square flying around the next couple years? Shew wee.

- The ever-improving secondary needs to play the eff up against Gitmo and force him into quick decisions. Scrap that soft zone ish. Eff the Vols. Crucial game for us (obvs).

- Old Forester 1910 is delicious. Awesome dessert bourbon and probably closer to Birthday Bourbon than Brown-Forman will ever admit.

- KAT is going to average 30/10 this year, or pretty damn close. He's stupid prolific right now.

The problem with the notion of rotating Smith for a drive or 2 is that it would be without Bowden at WR and I don't know how effective a passing game would be without him.

Tough **** b/c you play to win, but still has to suck for the Receivers knowing you're playing an entire game with the likelihood of never even getting a target. SAE can probably expand on what that's like.

Yea I was shocked to learn St. X/Glaser didn't run a spread offense when I got there. Winning state titles was cool though, I guess.

Worked at the Holiday Inn on Newtown Pike during college, hated the kid tourneys in town. They ran roughshod all night through the Holidome just creating havoc. The parents DGAF either, "here's some tokens for the arcade games, see you in 6 hours".

So I hate all you parents.

When my brother coached middle school in Pike County, he told me about a team from Shelby Valley that basically held every kid back to build a super team. Elisha Justice was one of the kids. Said 8th graders threw down dunks in warmups. Four years later that same group ran over Trinity or Ballard or somebody and won the state title.

Is there a rule where if Bowden has to leave the field if Smith comes in?
The scenario you're talking about means putting QB1 on the field as a WR just to get some reps for QB2.

That's a massive risk unless Bowden gets "demoted" to #2 because the offense is playing like garbage.

-yep...most of these kids had been playing together since they were in the 2nd/3rd grade. The better teams practice year round/hit the aau tourney circuit as a team...sometimes being small/fewer outside "drains" on time(lacrosse, volleyball, soccer) can be a good thing, i reckon.

I was thinking more to mix it up and keep the offenses prepping for completely different styles. Move Bowden around the field in different sets. 4 Games is a lot to continue to just wildcat every snap.

- What can I say about the game and Bowden that hasn't already been said? What a win, been smiling ever since.

- Still mad at myself for not taking that ML at +300. I wasn't second guessing myself, just had a crazy busy Friday and Saturday and literally forgot to put it in.

- Smaller Extrav was actually a lot of fun, added to my list of REAL LIFE GYERO friends meeting TSK. Good times all around, pumpkin pie shots were indeed :fire:.

- Finally got to try some Down Home as well as Kentucky Spirit. Liked both a lot. Digging the spice kick on the Down Home and that Spirit is smoooooth.

- Tipsy Cow was . . . interesting. Something about bars being located in strip malls still is always a little weird to me.

- Zack Attack great as always. Nothing gets the lasses dancing like they're back in college like 90's throwback rap.

- Seeing Boat in a head-to-toe lion costume with a bourbon in hand was a sight to behold. He and Dorothy rocked it.

- Still mostly invested in football but enjoying some white chili with the in-law fam while watching the roundball Cats kicked up my excitement for the season quite a few notches. Some rough edges but the talent clearly is there. Cal will figure it out.

It also takes away your best open field threat, and eliminates Wagner as a threat in any capacity (he wasn't targeted nearly enough to begin with but that's another story) Unless Bowden can turn into Lamar, then that idea needs to be scrapped /w the quickness....as well as using him in the wildcat on first and second, and then putting Smith in on 3rd and long and asking him to be Peyton.

Dude nailed it, though.
