Derby Shorts:

-Love everything about Derby around here. Town buzzing, local news is all-in live reporting from everywhere. Just impossible to not catch the feels imo.

-Oaks Friday w/ some friends and my boy ABH. Last time we went together it was...quite a day.

-Herro's bounce back is pretty incredible imo. He & his reputation was basically TOAST. 6th MOY is a huge award in that league, well done!

-NOLA next week w/ the whole crew. Shew, that's gonna be one for the ages - haven't been as excited about something in a very long time.

Going to be Hot. As. Balls. Thankfully we only have to wear a coat for all lunches & dinners. 😉

*definitely jacked about Antoine's. Never been there, Galatoires, or Arnaud's -- glad to finally get to knock one of the super-classics out. .10 martinis should serve the crew well as a jumpstart on the day drinking action.

-Add 1 more shooter, and I Love our roster. As of now, i still like it a good bit, especially considering everyone else.

-It's wild that UK Football as a program is weekly doing something good/cool, and that it's basically just normal.

-Harlow is dope - Only 4 features on the new one dropping Oaks -- Drake, Wayne, Pharrell, JT. 4 legends in their own right. Pretty solid co-signs, I'd say.

-Don't love a Mint Julep, but I'll certainly have my 1.

-Lil Mez is in jail, per Chase. GoFundMe?

--Pro (early) Choice conservative.

-Hope everyone cashes some nice tickets this week, Leggo! :boom:

I'm not saying Jesus would say "hooray abortion!" (clearly, not). But I don't think there's any biblical reason to believe everyone is obligated to place the value of an unborn life over a born one. And it's a short-sighted disservice to ignore the two lives (mom and baby) profoundly affected by placing the life of the unborn as the most important 100% of the time. An unborn life is easy to advocate for; the out-of-utero lives have far more demands and raise a lot more variables and need more help. And there's definitely no reason to believe Jesus doesn't love a woman who aborted a baby, for whatever reason it happened, as much as he does every other person (Romans 3:23-26, etc.) That latter part is where the pro-life movement has really fallen short.

Early Derby leanings/thoughts:

Win Contenders:
Messier - Can he get the distance?
Taiba - Is he a freak?
Epicenter - Can he maintain form?

^^Those guys have the best Beyer numbers (speed numbers). Their pace fractions all look good to me. I think Messier is the cream of this crop from a talent perspective, but I'm not sure 1 1/4 mile is his ideal distance. Taiba will have to overcome a lot history up against him in just his 3rd career start, but history has been thrown out the window the last 7-10 years. You can blame that on the points system, doping, etc. But those two horses were Baffert horses who are now being trained by his assistant so . . .

I'll find a way to use these guys:
Crown Pride - I swore to never again put money on a Dubai runner, but here we are. His Japanese connections seem to be pushing all the right buttons. The clockers are absolutely raving about him.
Simplification - Tries hard every out.
Cyberknife - His numbers aren't on the same level as the others, but he is improving.

Trying to beat these guys:
Zandon - I really like this horse, but his style isn't suited for the New Age Derby.
Mo Donegal - Drawing the rail really doesn't affect him, but it makes it easier for me to draw a line through him.
White Abarrio - His numbers aren't eye catching. His connections don't do well when shipping away from Fla.

2 Wildcards that scare me:
Charge It - He was "late for a wedding" coming down the stretch in the Fla. Derby. If he figures it out Saturday, he could be a serious contender. Could be a problem in the Belmont.
Tiz the Bomb - Turfway to Churchill path can work. This horse runs hard late as well but may have fewer horses to pass than Zandon and Mo D.

I'm not really paying attention to anyone else.

Finally.

Rogan is on like a 3-week streak of terrible comedians and meathead MMA guys. It's about time he finally had a good guest again.

Stanhope is a very, very weird guy.

You can tell chiefpaduke doesn't get out much. Just read his views on society. The rest of us who get out and meet and interact with people of all walks of life realize that most folks we come in contact with are actually pretty normal overall. Meanwhile, that weirdo lives his entire life thru whatever the latest Libs of Tik Tok or 8kun group of National Review hit piece just came out. That's fine, but he truly thinks that's reality.

Speaking of Johnny Depp. Amber Heard is giving the performance of a lifetime on the stand right now. There's a special place in hell for this evil b*tch.

But the drama is sooooooo good. I can't stop listening .

- Abortion is just one conversation I never want to have.

- Ahead of myself and whatnot but I’d say the odds are decent we get not one but TWO more years of Oscar. He won’t be making what he makes here any time soon in the NBA.

- Thanks, Strokin. Now where is @MattsCats ?

- Popped on a new book by Mike Pratt and Tom Leach at the local bookstore/coffee house. Kinda doubting it will be worth a ****.

- I’d bet Adrien Brody is a chill guy to hang out with.

- Bought a zoo family pass. Hit it up for the first time Sunday. Saw some good animals, lots of bad tats, and came home feeling much better about my personal health and wellness.

- Chunky salsa is garbage.

- Man kids’ daycare/preschool is expensive AF. May have to finally sell off my Hard Rock Cafe shotglass collection to afford tuition.

- The new version of The Wire is predictably DOPE.

- Lots of pressure on my MIL to follow up last year’s Derby tri win. She actually had the super but only bet a four-horse tri.

- Levis #5 overall in The Athletic 2023 mock.

I think Roe and Casey were horrendously bad decisions from a pure legal perspective, but also think there are some instances where abortion should be available. The whole issue is worse now than it had to be because the SCOTUS jumped into a complex issue and attempted to regulate from the bench. It was doomed to failure from the word go.

Yep, I think I am going to take a chance with a relaxed Taiba. His work out of 38.4 at 3F today kind of worries me, though.

Also, the way SAE described him having a Porsche in school would be the way I see Taiba. He's either going to just be really irresponsible and immature (no offense, SAE) or he is going to look like an absolute robot.

I'm hoping he stays at 10-1 or higher. I am just afraid he's going to get out to a bad start and then have no clue how to come back. I don't think he's going to like the dirt/mud thrown in his face.

Sumbitch is threatening to overtake my mortgage and I'd still happily pay. As, I think, Anth once said, it's something that is worth every penny, but damned if I wouldn't be living a very different life over the next two years while my little girl works her way to Kindergarten in a luxurious daycare.

Every time I go to the track, I buy a program and the racing forms. Generally spend 10-15 minutes prior to the race studying all the statistics that I don't understand and then place some crazy superfecta. I think I've profited once out of the dozens of times I've gone to Keeneland.

I'm just going to piggyback Matts and Strokin this year for the derby.

what’s the best way for someone who’s 100% ignorant about all things Ky-Derby —- to get up to speed and be able to host out of state visitors?

* I hate zoos. I don't give a **** about the animals or anything, I just find them extremely boring.

* Ordered an expensive putter from Club Champion, and the GD thing showed up with the wrong grip, and the shaft bent/creased near the neck. For that price tag, f*cking thing should've been perfection. I'll be sure to follow up with my bitching as this issue gets sorted out over the next months.

*It's true, Lil Mez was incarcerated as of this morning, but it appears he has now been released. Thank God. Can't wait to hear his next album when he poetically describes the experience.

*One of the other lawballs correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Kentucky's anti-abortion legislation will go into effect immediately when the SC opinion is published, and it states no abortions beyond 15 weeks unless the mother faces death or permanent injury. I don't think there are any exceptions for age, incest or rape. So, if some 12-year-old kid gets raped by her grandpa, and she doesn't realize she's pregnant for a while, she'll either be traveling to another state, grabbing a coat hanger, or grandpa gets to enjoy child support. In the end, anti-abortion laws mostly hurt the poor who will either have the kid and not support it, or kill themselves and/or the baby trying to rip it out on their own. People with means will still destroy that unwanted bundle of joy, they'll just have to travel to do it.

*I'd really like to see Club Pro Guy in a Netlflix show styled like The Trailer Park Boys. Pretty sure it would be amazing.

Sure thing dude.

I've lived in NYC, San Diego, Atlanta, Memphis, Dallas and Lexington. Worked with Ivy Leaguers down to Vern's mom. Been an extra in 3 movies. Played in WSOP tournaments in Vegas. Visited 15+ national parks. Multiple Masters and Final 4's. Etc..

But I don't get out much.

- Bought 20 shares of Amazon last Friday. I'm thinking Masters next year or WSOP with the proceeds. What do you think Casey?

- I remember PTI tagging along to a party at Miss St and not saying a word to a single person there. Just stood on the deck staring at me and the girl I'd hooked up with the night before.

Chief needs to visit more places like Biloxi Mississippi than all of those liberal bastions. May help his perspective a touch.
