In three years, I would love to have a 23 year old senior space-eating big man who has been in an NCAA conditioning program for 4 years. Those guys typically are pretty useful in March, but maybe that's just me.
If he’s here. Which he won’t be. Because of dreams or whatever.

Meanwhile, Mychal Mulder, a player Cal apparently loathed putting on the floor, just made the Golden State Warriors’ roster.

I'm curious to know if the BBN's problems with Calipari are as simple as:

1. He's a condescending prick to the fanbase that pays him and openly belittles their concerns; and,
2. We have constant roster turmoil that is not even rational under the incentives of the NBA Draft. For instance, Hagans, Montgomery, and Richards not coming back this year.

I'm not sure people would be as angry if he came out and said that he's going to start focusing on retaining guys who aren't sure fire NBA lottery picks and setting up a program to make sure they profit by staying in the system through graduation.

I mean, I cannot stand the sight of Boston and Clarke and it isn't their fault. They are just ****** rent-a-players who might eventually become halfway decent but it won't be here. It would be nice to see that openly addressed by Calipari.

I’ll take Ware’s effort over anybody’s yesterday. If all the guys had to “earn” their playing time regardless of ranking or draft projection, you might see more of them play with that type of effort.

Jay Wright would love to have Ware as his lone big manning the paint( in a year or two anyway).

Cal doesn’t value shooting. He’s living in 1995 where length and athleticism ruled the day. It’s infuriating. Even when he does grab a shooter, he hamstring them. Herro should have shot a mandatory 8-9 threes a game. Same with IQ.

Wow.

So basically the exact opposite of what you’ve been saying about Herro for 2 years?

Bout time you came around.

So I’ll bite, but not in an effort to defend Cal or his “system”.

I hear fans begging for more 3s, but missed 3s open you up to long rebounds and we send everyone crashing on shots except 1 guard.

That being said, we would be susceptible to a lot of fast breaks 2-1 or 3-1, and it takes ALOT of discipline to avoid these types of scenarios playing out. That type of discipline does not come from FR.

So why is the strategy of attacking the lane for layups/putbacks or getting fouled and shooting FTs so bad when it avoids and takes away a lot of the liability that comes with shooting 3s?

I get if a shot works itself open in the course of play then that shot HAS to be taken. I’m on board with that 100%, but it seems our fans just want volume 3s launched because it’s fun and players love it.

Cal is married to the “Players First Program” mantra. He will NEVER openly admit that it’s been corrupted and is gutting the program.

He will never be able to successfully transition from that without essentially stating that supporting a player’s dreams isn’t always healthy or good for them or the program when those dreams aren’t clearly defined as being a can’t miss 1st rounder.

While most of us believe that should be a reasonable position, he will feel as if makes him sound selfish. I honestly believe he knows he’s screwed and has no real hope to change this.

I really think we’re witnessing the end of his career at UK. He’ll push the eject button before he’ll backtrack on what he has touted as his sole purpose for coaching in college. He will make it known that he is interested in an NBA job, will lower his standards for which ones he’d consider and will bounce.

I have no problem with recruiting one-and-done players. I don't have any problem with Cal's condescending BS when we're winning.

My problems with Cal are

1. Chad put it best above, but the offense we run is out of date and has been proven to be inefficient and only works when it's run by a group of Monstar freaks who just out talent you. It's not just threes, it's moving the ball around with wide spacing and quick passing. We dribble to where we want the ball instead of passing it there. Meanwhile Cal wants to pound it inside to bigs in the post against packed-in zones. It's not ever going to work again. The game has evolved. And we're not gonna have a 2015 roster ever again now that Duke is borrowing the game plan and coaches aren't getting punished for paying players, and it's gonna get worse as the G-league gets involved.

2. He treats his four star players like 2nd class citizens. He feels obligated to get his star recruits to the pros and gives them unlimited chances. He's starting to recruit more lower ranked players because he is trying to make sure he has some upperclassmen (good on him for that.) But he seems to feel no obligation to them, has no patience for them and no plan for them. He throws them in there when his stars just can't do anything right, and the first mistake they make he pulls them and says there's nothing he can do with them. He just doesn't know what to do with a guy who isn't on an NBA draft board. So they bail. And his efforts to create more roster continuity actually end up leading to more roster turnover.

3. Pride. He refuses to change seemingly to spite those saying he needs to change. It's the ego of a guy who's done great things and whose stubbornness has taken him a long way, but now it's his greatest obstacle. This applies to how he plays, and who he plays.

Humphries leaving for Australia - while not earth shattering - was the warning bell for me.

He was coming off a huge tourney game against UNC and looking at a breakout year. Best I could tell at the time was he knew he was gonna be recruited over, which meant he’d probably play about 15 minutes/game (maybe).

And that’s been the story ever since.

We know what type of players Cal’s “system” requires, and we ain’t getting anywhere near that type of talent. Fix that or gtfo.

Honestly, someone needed to check Cal as soon as he started that “this ain’t about winning!”. Mfer you are at UK. You have some balls to tell the winningest program of all time that your goal as head coach does not involve winning games.

Then the condescending bs he gives fans like we are the problem? Ha! Cal is severely stepping over the line with that crap. Unbelievably arrogant and out of line.

I think back to that first presser, he was dressed to the 9’s, his family in appropriate attire along his side. There was a reverence that he and they had for the position. Then he makes good on his promise and basically tours the state glad handing BJW.

Fast forward to his daughters trolling our fans on Twitter (many of them idiots, yes, but also the same idiots that stand in line to get a ball signed by their coach), Brad dressing like a buffoon on the sidelines and actually being on scholarship, Cal blowing off pressers and basically only communicating with the fans via Twitter videos when he wants to take a moment to talk down to us, the stupid looking jumpsuits he sports on the bench, yelling like a maniac, recruiting and playing like it’s the early 00’s and being completely obstinate towards any hint of changing style of play or roster building.

It seriously is like poor ole Dontaie Allen is a representation of the fans and who they want to cheer for and Cal resents him for it.

A lot of this is prettiness brought on by frustration of losing, I know. But there certainly has been a shift in the feel of Cal’s tenure that goes beyond on court results and it’s not positive at all. Personally, I’ve gone from defender to “you know, it was a good run maybe it’s time to mutually part ways before it goes really bad” in just a couple seasons.

Boston 17% from deep on the season. My gawd.

You can't have a two or three shooting like this - period. I don't care what else he offers. It absolutely derails everything you'd want to do offensively. Other than maybe Mintz, other teams don't have to respect us at all from the perimeter. Nothing we do will work until that changes. Hoping we get 40 offensive rebounds and putbacks per game isn't an offense.

Askew can shoot- probably his best attribute. Cal has him on the Herro “pass up 3s for worse shots by someone else” game plan, though.

Watch our offense actually look pretty decent with a quality control assistant calling the plays. I mean, any of us could probably do it, too. Rodriguez left, Rodriguez right, play action to a tight end over the middle. Rinse, repeat, profit.

When you have an o-line as good as ours, it’s not difficult to run a basic offense efficiently. Somehow we’ve managed to screw that up this past year. But oh well, I’m not fretting on that any more. Time for new beginnings.

We would have go at least 6-6 in a normal year. So no issue from me.

Exactly. In a normal year, this is a 6-6 team at a minimum. It’s most likely a 7-5 team (figure 3-5 in the league, beat the three gimmes and bitchsmack UL).

In this absolute dumpster fire ****-on-my-face year we’ve all had (2020 in general, not our season), any Cats “fan” bitching about playing a ranked team in a legacy bowl on the Saturday afternoon after New Year’s needs to be drug into the street and shot. Twice.
