My dad is an electrical inspector and, from what he says, there won't be any left in a few years. No new blood. It looks like a good gig from what I can tell. I mean, he lives in Pike County and has as much work as he wants and spends the rest of his time golfing.
Not sure who he works for, but I can't imagine a more ******, less fulfilling job that being an inspector for the city/state. Well, other than maybe being a meter maid or working at the DMV/Count Clerk's office.
Many municipalities here farm their inspections out to a third party independent source. One stop shops that handle everything. Speeds things up tremendously in municipalities that have them. The municipalities with traditional systems are super slow mainly because they are labor short. The private firms pay more. Shocking stuff, I know.

I think there’s a similar need for AEC specification writers. At my old firm, we were looking for one for years and it basically got to the point of looking around the room and asking how much it would take for any of us to do it full time. Just an awful, tedious, thankless aspect of the industry.

* Started off the morning by doing a drive-thru COVID test at our downtown facility. Imagine taking one of those really skinny coffee/stir straws and sticking it up your nose until it pokes your brain, then doing the other nostril next. Not pleasant, but I managed to survive.
Lass and I have both shown some symptoms, but mine are probably worse -- fatigue, runny nose, sneezing, lightheaded, coughing.....nothing severe, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if one or both of us had it. In fact, I truly think MOST will get it, particularly in hot spot areas like the one in which we live. Up to this point it's been all good, though. Locked down at the house for the most part.
* There's definitely going to be some religious zealot martyrs out there when this thing is all said and done...

* Re: small business. Most of the small business owner friends I have could drop what they're doing right now to go back to corporate America and make the same, or even way more money. Outside of the obvious catastrophe, that may be my biggest fear. Your local independent retailers and training studios and coffee shops and bars and restaurants -- many of those may not come back in a month or two or three. Why deal with the risk and the headache when you can just get a "regular" job with more certainty and pay?
Something I never took for granted in the booming economy was the overall shift to authenticity. Applebee's and Chili's and the like were struggling, but locally owned niche restaurants were popping up on every street corner. We need that back. I can only drink so many Brewtuses.

I truly believe a big component of surviving this whole ordeal are the secrets wrapped up in that book. Financial security, healthy eating, daily exercise, avoiding stress......just some food for thought.

* Never seen my lass so happy. She's spending all day working in the yard/garden, and all afternoon/evening in the kitchen. House looks amazing. I'm being exceptionally well fed. I could get used to this.

I worked in building code enforcement for the state for a while. Made basically no money at all but my goodness it was gravy. So much paid time off.

Those county electric inspectors aren't the same as state or city inspectors. Most are contract employees. ^Like UCL, not a bad gig if life isn't about work.

First time I had watched it since 92 live so I was hazy on the details and did it really live up to the hype of greatest ever? Boy does it. Just a magnificent game all around. The thrill seeing Mashburn go beast mode with UK down 12 midway through the second half again brought chills. Then colossal play after colossal play down the stretch and in OT. And gd Laettner...Dukes best team ever had to have its best player ever be absolutely perfect to win that game. I mean the shot he hit that fouled out Mashburn was almost as ridiculous as the Woods shot that followed. I of course turned it off when UK went up by one because eff that. Stupid virus got me doing stuff I never would have thought to do. K can eat a dick.
