That Ole Miss offense is so successful because 1st, the Offensive Line understands what is expected of them because the run block and pass block the same way. Then the skill players know exactly where the open grass is.
The Ole Miss Defense is so bad , not because they don’t line up right, but because they just aren’t talented enough.
That Offense gives them a chance to win games they shouldn’t and that defense gives them a chance to lose games they shouldn’t.
I think a lot of this is right and it’s more than fair, given it’s a rival board. I do agree that the offense can be very good, at times. But, we lose our identity at times, too. Corral is insanely talented, but has no sense, at all. Of course, y’all already knew that. Our OL can look good, situationally, but it’s not great. The tackles are good, and the Center is good, except for 5-6 bad snaps a game, which is a big deal. Our freshmen Guards are not good. We cannot run the ball in obvious run situations, unless we trick the defense into a hole opening up. The WRs, outside of Moore, are not good. Mingo could be, but there’s something else going on there. I don’t know if it’s attitude, mental, or what. But he can be great and terrible on the same drive, multiple times a game. They also don’t block well, down the field.
Defensively, yes, it’s primarily talent. But there’s more to it than that. Our players aren’t that much worse than Vandy or Arkansas and they have competent defenses. Our angles are laughable, our 3rd down defense is really bad, and our secondary just cannot tackle. Yes, I recognize that some of that comes down to talent, but it’s not the sole reason, despite being the primary one.
Finally, Kiffin still has a way to go as a game day HC. I think he’s a good leader of the program, I think he’s a good recruiter and evaluator, and I think he’s a good play caller. But he gets WAY too cute at times, struggles managing the clock way more than I’d have thought, and I have concerns about his ability to manage the little things. I still think he’s a drastic improvement over what we had, and in a year or two will win some big games at Ole Miss. But he has a ways to go to become the coach he wants to be.
