Yea definitely not expecting this. It’s like we felt sorry for them and let them earn a bowl bid.
Or, it is like the conference wants as many bowl eligible teams as possible. Last year, when a disappointing Duke squad won a surprise road game to get eligible, was any one surprised? If so, then today's result might shock you. But when wfu eon last week to reach 5 wins, today's outcome was etched in stone. Money rules.
The offense had been terrible ever since jones came back from injury. Our wide receivers coach needs to be fired. We have the most talented group in years and they can’t even catch.
Reminder this is Senior day for Duke. Absolute disgraceful on their part. And the staff.
Though we are a lot better than we used to be, this says a lot about the state of Duke football. Cut needs to make some major changes to his staff.

Limping, staggering, hobbling into the bowl game. For all of the success this season has brought, the phenomenal start, I think the lows have been worse.
Seen a lot of bad Duke football loses over the years. This may have been the worse.
Well W.F. certainly laid a old fashioned butt kicking on us today. Hopefully we can heal and be healthy for our bowl game. I have to take this opportunity to say it helps the sting a lot to see unc lose today although they did give NCSU all they wanted. Did any of you see the fight at the end of the game when NCSU scored the winning touchdown? I wasn't at the Duke/unc game but was told unc wanted to fight after that game? I have always been anti unc but many years ago they were somewhat gracious when they lost. With all the incidents that's went on in the past few years such as the trips and endorsements, the vandalizing of the visitor's locker room at Duke. The selling of footwear this year from several players and yes they did receive suspensions but one of those games was the Central Fla. game that was cancelled and counted as one of the 4 games. I wonder who had his hand in that. The back to back losses to Duke and NCSU where there were pushing, shoving and fist thrown. The thing about the NCSU game is more than likely johnny tarheel swofford will see to it that some of the NCSU players involved may be receiving reprimands or suspensions their next game but guess what. The tar heel players involve don't have a next game and one of their players initiated it. We'll see what happens. With all of this it seems to me that unc has replaced Fla. teams as Thug U. OFC
Coaching staff definitely needs to be reevaluated after the season... Football is evolution and we are not keeping up. Good coaching staffs run circles around us... I love Coach Cut but some assistants need to be taken to task and/or let go...

They are dirty cheaters too and so are all the other sports program that took those ghost classes that got the A marks to boost their grades. I used to have so much spite for McCants but when he came out and admitted it I thought that was big of him although he did it in spite. Don't hear anything about him. It's like he just disappeared. With all due respect, which is none, I think Fedora might seriously be brain damaged. Doesn't believe in CTE, legitimately forgot about the last they played ECU (seriously, look up his quote prior to their game this year), and now thought literal fists being thrown was two teams celebrating. This guy is not right in the head, which makes him a perfect candidate for that dumpster fire of a team. Match made in heaven.

I'm not going to lie- UNC LOSING ALWAYS HELPS OFFSET THE PAIN OF A DUKE LOSS. I DESPISE UNC and loved seeing them go down!! Is the Era of the "FED" DEAD in Chapel Hole? Lets Hope Not!!!!! OFC
NOW onto the dark side. I thought Stephen Wiseman (Raleigh N&O) summed up our game perfectly in his account: to say Duke was embarrassed is an UNDERSTATEMENT.

Cut is in his 11th year at Duke, and sure we've been injury riddled. However, keep in mind we were a 10 and a half point FAVORITE to win this game.
This one hurts. It crushes momentum going into our bowl game, sends us down a tier likely on the bowl food chain, is a serious blow to in-state recruiting, etc. Bottom line though is this simply SHOULD NOT HAPPEN when you reach the level of success we've acheived in recent years.
Injuries have taken their toll, but please don't play the injury card in a 52 point loss to Wake at home. A good high school team could have beaten us yesterday.Cut better do something to shake up this staff. He wont out of fierce loyalty to his assistants though. I look for AD Kevin White to force him to make changes.
For one its time to let Zach Roper go as OC. We have about 5 plays we call repeatedly and everyone knows what we're doing. The co-defensive coordinators philosophy is a joke. Make Ben Albert DC,and assign Guerrie somewhere else. Jim Bridge is a joke coaching our OL. Their needs to be a massive shake-up. Oh yeah can we find a receivers coach who can show our guys how to catch????
No one loves DUKE FOOTBALL more than I, and after 50 plus years of following this program, I will NEVER wane in my support! I am very concerned about seeing things slip away...Cut seems to have trouble with the relatively new coaches: Clawson at Wake, Mendenhall/UVA, Fuentes/ Va Tech, Narduzzi/Pitt. Hes yet to defeat the latter 3.
Its time to lower the boom Cut, you're not a spring chicken(64 yrs old).Get this straightened out or you'll be forced out into retirement.Duke fans deserve better on Senior Day at Wallace Wade.

including the fans , especially students. guess they were all gone on T/G break. Didn't watch the game, but , on the highlights this am, did notice that the stands looked totally empty. Had got to be disheartening to the players to play in an empty stadium.
I agree. I said that a few weeks ago. I can’t really be to critical of it though becuase i wasn’t in the stands either...:/

I agree with this Hart, but I think Coach Cut has been the best Coach Duke has had since maybe.. Spurrier. Duke has been consistently in bowl games under Cut, but I totally agree with your frustration. There is absolutely no reason, Duke should have gotten boat raced by a 5-6 football team on senior day. It’s like our guys were just going through the motions out there yesterday. If Duke had just won this game, they would have been in a better bowl and not only that, they would have had some positive momentum going into their bowl game.
HP respectfully my friend, Wake played in front of the same abysmal environment yesterday. This one starts at the top with lack of preparation. That means the head coach on down!

I did not necessarily mean that lack of fans was all the problem, it was not. I don't know why they got beat that bad. Like someone pointed out, Cut is the best coach that Duke has had in years, so before folks start calling for his replacement, who do you think would come as his replacement that would do a better job. Duke has always had problems recruiting enough really good players to have successful teams, year after year. ND, Stanford, NW, seem to be able to pull it off. Duke just hasn't been able to do it , at least in many many years. I would like to see them be another Stanford or ND, but doubt I will ever see it. Even those schools have problems lots of years with recruiting also.
I didn't call specifically for his FIRING. I merely suggested changes are OVERDUE on staff. Otherwise he may be forced out. The AD at Ole Miss said overhaul your staff. He refused and was shown the door.
Mind you Cut is CLEARLY the best coach since Spurrier, by far. My biggest concern is we have plateaued under this STAFF. He needs to shake it up:

The fact that Cut is the best coach Duke has had since Spurrier, does not mean that Cut is now a great, or even a good, coach. Wake’s defense has been even MORE decimated by injuries than has Duke’s, but they managed to significantly stifle our offense. Our team quit. Hate to say it, but it is true. The ease with which Wake scored made them look better than Clemson. Our offense is so predictable that no good team could have trouble solving it. The offensive line could not pass or run block. We cannot tackle or contain around the ends. Opposing quarterbacks have all day to throw the ball. When we throw out in the flat, there is seldom anyone there to block for the receiver. We have an unreliable walk-on place-kicker. Our punter is inconsistent. We give up multiple big plays in almost every game. Not just a coincidence that BC, Pitt, Syracuse, and UVA are all far better than Duke at this point with relatively new coaches. Cut needs to clean house and bring in some proven assistants who have fresher approaches to the game. Our OC is just a mini-Cut, unable to adjust to defenses in big games against good teams. And, as I have said in previous posts, the fact the we do not have quality defensive backups discloses that our recruiting is no better than average, if that. Am I po’d? Worse than that. I am embarrassed and disgusted. 59 - 7? Seriously?
To Wake of all teams? At Duke? On Senior Day? Really? Really? Why would Jones, Humphries, or any other draft eligible player want to come back to that if there are no significant changes? Y’all have a nice day.
