NOW onto the dark side. I thought Stephen Wiseman (Raleigh N&O) summed up our game perfectly in his account: to say Duke was embarrassed is an UNDERSTATEMENT.

Okay, for anyone who wants to say "just think how far we've come in football from the days of winless or 1 and 2 win seasons" stop reading now. This loss is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. Cut is in his 11th year at Duke, and sure we've been injury riddled. However, keep in mind we were a 10 and a half point FAVORITE to win this game.

This one hurts. It crushes momentum going into our bowl game, sends us down a tier likely on the bowl food chain, is a serious blow to in-state recruiting, etc. Bottom line though is this simply SHOULD NOT HAPPEN when you reach the level of success we've acheived in recent years.

Injuries have taken their toll, but please don't play the injury card in a 52 point loss to Wake at home. A good high school team could have beaten us yesterday.Cut better do something to shake up this staff. He wont out of fierce loyalty to his assistants though. I look for AD Kevin White to force him to make changes.

For one its time to let Zach Roper go as OC. We have about 5 plays we call repeatedly and everyone knows what we're doing. The co-defensive coordinators philosophy is a joke. Make Ben Albert DC,and assign Guerrie somewhere else. Jim Bridge is a joke coaching our OL. Their needs to be a massive shake-up. Oh yeah can we find a receivers coach who can show our guys how to catch????

No one loves DUKE FOOTBALL more than I, and after 50 plus years of following this program, I will NEVER wane in my support! I am very concerned about seeing things slip away...Cut seems to have trouble with the relatively new coaches: Clawson at Wake, Mendenhall/UVA, Fuentes/ Va Tech, Narduzzi/Pitt. Hes yet to defeat the latter 3.

Its time to lower the boom Cut, you're not a spring chicken(64 yrs old).Get this straightened out or you'll be forced out into retirement.Duke fans deserve better on Senior Day at Wallace Wade.
Rant over.....

Hart, as much as I really don't want to pile on the coaches and there have been a ton of injuries this season - this year's squad had the capabilities of winning 10 games. Because of my work schedule I don't get to all games like I used to, but I was at the Virginia and the Virginia Tech games and both were so disappointing. Duke's defensive backfield is not good, and it's not the talent and skill, it's the technique. I stopped counting in games I watched this season where the DB would be in the complete wrong place or be in the right place, but not have the technique to make a play. With the exception of a couple of guys, the tackling technique is poor. On the offensive side, the offense is too bland and predictable. There's too much talent on the offensive side of the ball for Duke to not put up 30+ points a game.
I like Coach Cut and God knows I appreciate the life that he's brought into this program. But I don't think he has the right guys supporting him right now. I don't think they are teaching the skills needed to win ball games.

I didn't watch the Wake game. Since I work nights, I was asleep and when I saw the score after I got up I went to the DVR and deleted it. With a score like that, there wasn't going to be anything I wanted to see.

If Coach Cut is the coach that I'm very confident that he is, there will be changes and adjustments made (sorry - I'm pretty sure they are happening now) and I hope that we'll all see a better product on the field next season.

We definitely need offense coordinator. To score seven points against Wake is unacceptable with all the injuries they've had. The empty stadium on senior day may have effect ed the energy Duke played with. We didn't have to worry about Duke starting a fight because I'm not sure they cared.

The only time Cut changes coordinators is when they leave to go to another team. He has not fired a coordinator in his 10 years at Duke, so don't expect him to do it now.

Very well said Niv.....Compounding all of your wonderful points is the possibility of dissension in the ranks: Injured CB Mark Gilbert tweeted after the loss "its not always the players fault." The post was DELETED a short time later....

Interesting. During his interview on GoDuke, Cut stated that the team "let up" instead of fighting harder in the face of adversity. Not much difference in "letting up" and "quitting" is there? He offered no solutions to our inability to stop the run. He put no blame on the staff, which probably led to Gilbert's erased tweet. He did raise injuries as contributing to the result, but that excuse is kind of hollow, given that Wake was just as, if not more, beat up than we were. A sorry interview which contained no positives, explanations for the embarrassing result, or even the hope of changes for the bowl game. It was as if there was nothing wrong with Duke's offensive and defensive schemes.

this is kinda cuts thing. always the players never the coaches. like last year it was the players fault for our 6 game losing streak and not the coaching staff for only giving the ball to the rbs for 2 or less carries in the second half of 4 of those games. plus we ran daniel jones again and again when he was injured. coaching is really hurting us right now. cut had the same issue at old miss where he stays so loyal to his staff that they finally had to let him go. our oline recruiting is really being affected by how bad the coaching is. i agree with mark gilberts tweet. our play calling, oline development, secondary play and wide receiver skills suck and that is on coaches

Not only do our skills suck, but so also do the basics, like, oh I don't know, blocking and tackling.
