@CelticHawk was trying to troll the members of this board and was hoping we would react similar to Iowa fan on the Iowa board, well that back fired on him. Husker fans out class Iowa fan yet again.

I’ll give you an “e” for effort though, now head on back to the place with the next highest traffic for husker football talk, aka the Iowa board.

Thank you for clarifying!

Maybe in the Big 12, but I doubt he is coming back to B1G anytime soon. He may like NFL.
He had his success in the Big 10, so he's more likely to go back there. And he was an assistant coach at Iowa for a long time, so there is a connection with Iowa.

I don't think winning 1 game in Io_a City every 10 years is gonna do it, BRR. I think it will be more 90-10 once Scott gets it going in year 2... and KF will be winding down. Beating teams like the squa_ks consistently will determine when Big Red is back.
People need to realize kirk probably doesnt have that many years left.
I would not be shocked if it were five years and hes gone.
He seems to have a lifetime contract but he might choose to bow out.
Definitely ten years at most, I just dont see him being a joepa and sticking around even when hes totally meaningless.

At that point we learn whether iowa can do better with someone else. Lets hope they can and we can too, then an actual rivalry can flourish.
Iowa sucks.

I would see him more likely at K-State and I don't anticipate Iowa as an option. fwiw

First 2 years ... yes. Of course, he inherited a 2-9 roster, with absolutely horrible depth in the trenches. Mike Riley's circumstances were not the same.

The 3rd year was a win over Texas Tech for Iowa. 8-0 season and three staight Top 8 finishes.

Certainly, not Dr. Tom Osborne level success, but it took Dr. Tom over 20 years to win and win B1G.

Mike Riley and Kirk Ferentz are not good comparisons.
Lol at least post correct facts

Let's see... Auburn beat Alabama and was damn near a playoff team last year. UCF beat Auburn.

I doubt Frost is worried about running "through" Iowa.
Come to think of it, going around Iowa instead of through it is the best way to experience Iowa.
Actually drove through Iowa this past weekend up to Clear Lake ( North central IA close to MN border). Anyways, I never realized how Iowa has such beautiful places in the summer. The flat rich rolling farmland must be amazing to farm, and they have some beautiful lake set-ups. We typically only see the western version, which leaves a lot to be desired, but I'd say 75% of it is terrific. How do they have such good a highway system compared to Nebraska's? Ticks me off - seems like our average gravel road here is a new paved road at every mile section over there.

Enough about that, Nebraska has plenty of beautiful places in our own right.

I think Nebraska and Iowa will become a competitive game again for years to come. Frost will move Nebraska up and Kirk & co seem to be recruiting better. Over a ten year period, I think Nebraska will win 60%+ of the head to head games. Scott has more killer instinct and I believe more adaptability than Ferentz. Just my opinion Winking.

Exactly my sentiments. Its going to be fun to watch it play out. Well, for some. lol.

If we cant win, I want Nebraska to win. Now, if we lose ten a row, I might change my point of view. : )

Iowa fan sucks.

I like the “Iowa sucks” retort, but really I don’t mind the state or program so much, it’s really about the Iowa fans and their general ignorance that is so bothersome. Why does Iowa fan hate facts and statistics so much? How can Iowa fan not just admit that they really hate the fact that Iowa wins 3 in a row yet KF still has a losing record to Nebraska? The Iowa homeboard AKA the “Nebraska board to the East” is so bad that any halfway decent hawk fan has to come over here to talk football.

So you really do hate it that KF has a losing record against Nebraska, good. Just think if Iowa happens to get a win in 2018 KF still won’t have a winning record against Nebraska, that must make you sooooo angry.

Iowa fan sucks.

Why? If your team can't win, you want another team you don't want to win...to win?

I have never understood this line of thinking. I root for my team, if they lose before reaching the championship level I don't want anybody else to win. I just hope my team can win next year. I may dislike another team more than the next, but I don't want another to win what I couldn't.

Michigan fans hate Ohio State, vice versa. Doesn't mean they want to see Penn State win a title. Iowa recruits daily against Nebraska, if Nebraska becomes dominant again they will be stealing more and more recruits from Iowa.

Unless you want to be a Husker?

Mike Riley and Kirk Ferentz are not good comparisons.

KF inherited a 3-8 team, which he promptly coached to 1-10 and 3-9 records his first two seasons ('99 and '00). In his third year ('01), they were 7-5. In his fourth year, they went 11-2 with an 8-0 conference record. Although you got the years wrong, Iowa did finish exactly 8th in both polls in his 4th, 5th and 6th years ('02-'04).

TO won every damn year he coached. C'mon. Do we even have to cite the stats? It did take him over 20 years to win a national title. If that's your definition of winning big, then I guess you're right about that part. But he certainly "won big" before '94 with multiple undefeated teams and others in NC contention, so incorrect any way you slice it.

As for Mike Riley vs. Kirk Ferentz, they're actually fairly comparable. KF's lifetime NCAA record is 155–118 (.568) in 23 seasons (including three years at Maine). Riley's is 112-99 (.531) in 17 seasons. KF has had six teams finished nationally ranked while MR had four, but that's pretty similar relative to the number of seasons they coached.

KF still has the better resume, but he's waaay closer to Riley than he'll ever be to TO.

@Larry Hagman's Liver

Iowa's former OL coach during those final years under Coach Fry is now in Lincoln as a analyst for Coach Scott Frost I believe I read this month.

Nick Saban at MSU after a 49-3 or 42-3 B1G opener win in 1999 against Iowa had a good conversation with his former colleague, Kirk Ferentz. They were under Bill Bellececk together in Cleveland.

It basically went, what happened to your lines at Iowa. Both OL and DL, since Fry's final staff, especially at OL was not good for keeping the cupboard stocked.

Iowa's recruiting wasn't necessarily the problem. But, awful fit with position coach.

In the season opener in 1999, converted redshirt freshman TE Bruce Nelson was the starter at LT, he moved down to LG as seasons went on, as Iowa went from 1-11 to 3-9 to 7-5 to #8 in KF's fourth season. Nelson became an all-American center, though his NFL career was ruined by a career ending injury.

Kirk Ferentz isn't Tom Osborne, but like Osborne spent time as an assistant at Iowa, went elsewhere to get more experience, unlike Osborne, then came back to Iowa as HC.

The resume of Mike Riley didn't have Big Ten experience. Like with Gary Anderson at Wisconsin, two Pac 12/Mountain West types that lacked fit for Nebraska or UW.

Iowa's success during Fry or Ferentz begins with line play. Barry Alvarez took the same concept to UW.

Wisconsin is the team to beat again in the B1G West. Iowa has shown moments, beating Wisconsin in 2015, Michigan in 2016 and Ohio State in 2017, but inconsistent and only 1 of 4 in West division races.

The Big Ten likely has 5 candidates for the CFP this season, but I would suggest the Big Ten may get shut out again in 2018.

The way he’s been “tearing it up” at Arkansas…why would anyone want him (1-7 conf 4-8 overall). Wisconsin’s continued success, coupled with his miserable showing at Ark has all the proven BBs coaching prowess while at Wiscy was all system related.
