When I was at STATE, me and some of my friends used to fish at the Refuge all the time. I never saw a gator. A few years later I saw pictures taken of gators at the Refuge and I was completely shocked. I never knew they were there.

[cowbell9]

...hell, call PETA, Im sure they would like a shot at it.

[DesotoCountyDawg]

The water was so low that they just all floated around in the middle of the lake. You could see 20 or so at the same time.

[Rabid]

I left Starkville in 1996, so I missed that period. We even used to walk through the woods to a back part of the lake to fish and I never saw one. I just wasn't paying attention. I never thought there would be gators that far north. I was wrong.

We have seen and caught gators up here in the past.

[sack07]

He was at one of the spill ways.. The one that runs off to the side instead of the back.. Just laying around..

<span class="spnMessageText" id="msg"><font color="#191970" size="2">We have been down this road bout this gator already.

Drowned in a commercial gill net in Little Eagle Lake in Humphreys Co. 2 weeks ago.

It measured 11 feet 9 inches with some of its tail missing (I estimated about 12-14 inches). (14 feet long - nope!)

It was 63 inches in the belly with a little bloating due to the hot day. (7 foot around in the belly - nope!)

I believe it was 40 or 41 inches in the tail.

We estimated it weighed between 675-775 pounds.

[garndawg]

That's nothing, they've caught a couple in the ATL.

Had one last year that was hanging out on the Chattahoochee river, right at the I-285 bridge in Cobb county. Scared the hell out of a couple of flyfishermen, it did. GA DNR captured it and moved it south.

Then another one popped up a little further upstream even. AJC went nuts over it for a couple of weeks last summer...

Granted, neither of them were of a size, both well under 10'...

But still, how'd you like to be standing the water, waving your stick and turn around to see That floating behind you? Hmm??</p>

Gators at the refuge since 1970 that i know of. used to be plenty of them in the early 70's on Ben Hiburns lakes in Longview also.

[msudawg12]

that's one big *** gator.

[Rabid]

It's better to get eaten by a slightly smaller gator. Please.

[Dinkle]

But all they do is just sit on the bank lazy bastards
