A couple articles from an interview:

LJS
Omaha

Tyjon Lindsey
Tyjon Lindsey, hospitalized after a workout last month, is back to training at nearly full speed, first-year Nebraska football coach Scott Frost said Thursday.

"Tyjon's doing well," the coach said of the fleet sophomore wide receiver from Corona, California. "He's pretty much back doing everything and looks pretty good, so I'm excited about where he is."
Tre Bryant
Another potentially key player on offense, junior running back Tre Bryant, is trying to come back from a knee injury that sidelined him for all but two games last season. Former Nebraska head coach Mike Riley announced in late October that the St. Louis native would have surgery, a scenario that would give him the best chance to play in the spring.

"I know he's got some knee issues; we're trying to figure it out," Frost said. "We're hopeful. We have to see how it plays out. I don't think anything's definite on that right now."

Bryant, a 5-foot-11, 200-pounder, had 51 carries for 299 yards in a little less than two games in 2017.

"He would fit what we do really well," Frost said. "He's got the speed, explosiveness, vision."
Spring Practices
* Nebraska will practice on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings in the spring. Morning practices are a major change for the Huskers. They haven't used such a format in the spring for at least 30 years.

"Hopefully we can get all the kids' (class) schedules to where we can do it in the mornings in the fall," the coach said.

>> On why the Huskers will practice in the mornings this spring and next fall, a concept Frost picked up at Oregon:

"There’s a lot of reasons. Physiologically, mornings are the best time to train. It helps get your body going, gets you active, helps you recover better. Guys aren’t going to sleep in and miss practice, but they might sleep in and miss class. Guys wouldn’t go out and stay up late if they know they have a hard practice, but they might if they just have to sit in class.

"It helps us recover during the week, get off the field earlier in the week so we can prepare for the game. I think guys are more alert in class."

Friday Night Lights
* Frost likes the idea of resuming the "Friday Night Lights" camps this summer at Memorial Stadium, something that was started by Riley's staff.

"A lot has been said and talked about, but not everything they did here was terrible," Frost said. "I think that's one of the really good ideas they had."

But there's a problem.

"Our issue is they're redoing the lights in the stadium, and I don't know if we'll have lights in the summer," Frost said. "If they do, from what I heard about that event, it's worth doing, and I hope we can do it."
Spring Game(s)
* There won't be a second Red-White Spring Game, he said, as has been mentioned as a possibility.
However, "Our administration got a lot of calls about the average fan that couldn't get a spring game ticket, and we're kicking around the idea of opening up another practice or scrimmage to fans so that families and kids who couldn't get tickets can come see us," Frost said.

"I don't want a family of four that has to go on StubHub to buy tickets for $600 to not be able to come to a spring game. We'll see if there's enough demand" to open up a scrimmage or practice, he said.

>> On whether he would play a true freshman at quarterback next season:

"Absolutely. I will play the best guy and that’s at any position. We’re going to give everybody reps and the competition will be open to everyone. I don’t care if the guy’s a fifth-year senior or a true freshman. If they’re the best player, they’re going to play."
>> On the marriage of tough and physical line play and an offense that moves so darned fast:

"No question you can be fast and physical. The teams that run a two-back set or a power set don’t have the market cornered on being tough and physical. I was at Oregon a long time, and one thing I thought was, what if you took that speed and tempo and the way we moved and put it with Husker power? It would be really dangerous. That’s what we did at UCF. We took the scheme I knew with the training I knew at Nebraska. We can do the same thing here."

The article also emphasized patients for the staff to get it turning. I agree the fans should give this staff a wide berth, let it develop.

They’ll get their time I’m sure. Pelini got 7 years, Frost would have to be a Riley type failure to not get some time too.

I’m sure some are just waiting to call him a failure when he loses though..

Let’s not compare Frost to Pelini and Riley in another thread, not saying you’re trying too.

I think Tyjon is going to be electric is HCSF's offense. Feel like people are forgetting about him after all the speed/skill guys we just signed.

He didn't produce a ton of stats last year with Lee's accuracy missing him so often, but he has talent. It wasn't that long ago (last spring) that everyone was so excited about him.

He definitely has the ability to surprise the naysayers.

With Lindsey, Spielman, Morgan, this wide receiver trio is likely as good as any in the country. If we have a competent QB, I could see our offense far exceeding expectations this first season.

Hell yeah. The opportunity is there.

I just hope the Frost quote about hoping the B1G has to adjust to us turns out like we all want it to.

If the offense can produce decent results along with a defense that can perform better than last year (hard not to statistically), this team can surprise. The talent is there. So much will be determined by the QB.

No, they'll just call out the double standards by some fans.

But we're not going to have to worry about it because Frost is too good to have Callahan, Pelini, Riley type results.

I have heard him mention in many different interviews that this is going to take time. Question is what is that time frame? 2 years? 10 years? Personally I don't think it is going to take that long. Riley tanked the program in 3 years. I think we have a better player talent pool now then when Riley took over. So if Frost can get player mentality and culture turned around I think we will see results very rapidly. We could even see significant gains this year, only losing 3 games. Also it wouldn't surprise me to to go 5-7.
My guess is:
Year 1 anything goes. Wins and losses really aren't that important at this point. As long as we are seeing progress from game 1 to game 12. The ground work is laid, player mentality is put in the right direction, playbook is learned, schedules are establish. Players know what to do and what is expected of them. Guess at record- 6-6
Year 2 Should start seeing results. The system should be established. Frost still needs to get a full team of "his guys" but I think we still have plenty of talent to succeed. I don't see this being the undefeated year like UCF had. I think the country takes noticed that Nebraska is on the verge. Guess at record. 9-3( this schedule is actually pretty weak besides Ohio St and Wisc)
Year 3 is my break out year. Everything starts clicking at full gear this year. Players, staff, admin, system, fans are all on the same page and moving at 100%. This is the year I see us competing for a BIG10 championship. Guess at record 11-1 (still can't get past Ohio St).
Year 4 Sky is the limit. Time to start consistently competing for the National title and time to dethrone Ohio St as the top dog in the BIG10. NEBRASKA FOOTBALL IS BACK!

For what it’s worth, I recently heard that Gebbia is quietly (or not quietly) stepping up as a leader of the team. And I heard the team is responding to him.

Nebraska could be already sitting on a special player only to be pushed by the freshman Martinez.
I have heard he has been studying and watching films of Frosts system more than anyone. This kid wants it. Sounds like he is doing above and beyond to try and get the starting job. We need about 20 more like him on this team

I personally am not a subscriber to the # of wins as a qualifier for a good coaching staff.

I think a good head coach handles the media with tact, I think a well coached team doesn't commit a ton of penalties. I think a well coached team stays in the top 16 and is seen at years end in the top ten at least 5 out of 10 years and is #1 sometime in the season at least once every 10 years....at Nebraska.

And of course being competitive in games. Blowouts should be a rarity, not a yearly occurrence....at Nebraska...with a well coached team.

I think this staff will be able to field a top 16 team at Nebraska. I think that he will need far less time than 7 years. But I'm more than willing to not say a negative thing about the players(barring, God forbid, rape cases or other such nonsense), and the coaches for 5 years, after that man I might give some opinions about how things are going if not well.

I honestly think that if this staff cannot get it going here, we really cannot expect any coaching staff to be able to do it. I really think SF is going to be on par with the great ones. I could be wrong but that is the feeling I get.

GO BIG RED!!!

Results wise.........Pelini can't be grouped in with those other two. In saying that.......I hope he does much better than Pelini too but I'd take Pelini's first two years results for 2018 and 2019. We have a tough schedule in front of us.

I think 6-6 will be a good year as long as they make some good strides in the attitude and culture department which I think they will.

IMO people (not saying you) are already putting unrealistic expectations on this staff. I dont see how 9 or more wins are possible. The players dont match their system yet. Just me and I could be wrong.

6 wins first year
9 wins second year
Competing for Big Ten west championship in year 3
Competing for Big 10 title in year 4

Pretty much same as your thinking.

Mcquity (sp?) will flourish under HCSF. His tough luck injury, which caused a redshirt, might be the best thing that happened last season.

Sure he can. He won 0 championships in a weak BIG10 and was regressing.

Of course we'd take 9 wins in Frost's first year. It'd be sad to have less than 8 wins. We have one tougher game this year than we did last year. Yes I know we have a tougher road schedule, but Ann Arbor is not a tough place to play at and neither is Northwestern or Iowa. We've gone toe-to-toe at Camp Randall before and Ohio St obviously hasn't changed.

We need to stop looking at the schedule and seeing "tough teams" most of those teams are not "tough" it was that NU was so freaking Bad. Riley is gone and hopefully horrible football is gone with it.

Yep........winning 9+ per year was regressing. I know you loved MR but the average fan could certainly see how he was sandwiched between the two worst coaches we have had in modern day history and the differences between the on field successes.

Agree, but it's smart to try and control the message by saying the schedule is super tough compared to previous year.

Because if Frost isn't doing well then the "brutal" schedule can be used as an excuse. If Frost does really well (win 10+ games) we'll hear what an amazing job Frost did again a "brutal" schedule. You can't lose if you claim that our schedule is so much tougher than previous years, when really it isn't that much tougher than the previous year.

It'll be a major disappointment if Frost doesn't win 8 games this season. Just like it was a major disappointment when Riley didn't win 8 games his first and third years. I'm not going to call for Frost to be fired if he fails to win 8 games in either one of his first 4 years.

Right because how you win and lose doesn't matter. Who you win or lose against doesn't matters...

Otherwise by your logic 2012 was just as successful & just as good as 2010 when in fact 2010 was a much better team/year than 2012 even though the records didn't reflect it.

It is great to have big expectation. Those expectations also need to be based in reality or we will all be setting ourselves up for disappointment. Disappointment breeds negativity, which brings impatience, which lead to poor decision making. One thing this program does not need is poor/quick decisions on coaches. You expect 8 wins first year? Then what? BIG10 championship year 2? National Championship year 3? Not saying something like that could never happen. I would be ecstatic if it did. I think we all need to get a bit of perspective and patience. I am not saying it should take 5 years to get a BIG10 title, but will probably take more than 2.

What is considered quick? 1 year, 2, 5? Like I said before, Frost could fail to reach 8 wins in any/all of his first 4 seasons and I wouldn't be calling for his head.
You expect 8 wins first year? Then what? BIG10 championship year 2? National Championship year 3?
I expect at least 8 wins in any season. Doesn't mean I'd want Frost gone or won't give him a chance if he fails to reach at least 8 wins. Starting year 4+ I'm expecting division titles followed by winning BIG10 titles, finishing in the Top 10, playoffs, national championships. I will never put a timeline on the final 3 because you have to take care of winning the division and conference first and go from there.

Correct
For instance taking a team that has had say TEN 1-11 seasons in a row- would have different expectations than taking over a team that had say TEN 11-1 seasons in a row

Coming off a BARELY/LUCKY 4 win season that could have easily been a 2 win season and 2 losing seasons in 3 including BLOWOUT losses to the likes of Minnesota and losses to Purdue, Illinois and Northern Illinois- the expectations should be lower than say a coach coming into a season where the team won 9/10 games 7 years in a row.

One team is on the abyss of absolutely bottom of the barrel
The other team is sniffing at the Top 20
Any reasonable fair minded person would think the expectations for a good building block 6-7 win season would be lower for the former and higher for the latter-
I dont get how people either dont get this- or choose to ignore it- especially the guys who loved Riley and gave him so much rope

I see NU in the Big Title game in 2021- not struggling to beat the likes of Purdue, Illinois and Rutgers and getting blown out by Minnesota- ala the beloved Smilin Mike

Name one "Riley lover" that isn't going to give Frost the same amount of rope. Just one.

Frost deserves MORE-
The ABYSS he inherited- worst NU team in 56 years
He's a proven winner- unlike his predecessor- he's actually won something- pretty much everywhere he's coached

MR inherited an on the cusp Top 25 program that had won 9/10 games for 7 years in a row.
Never won a darned thing

Those are two VERY different inheritances
One inherited a house on the edge of being condemed in an old but once proud neighborhood-
The other inherited a nice 4 bed 3 bath in a circle in South Lincoln that once the landscaping is touched up and bathroom remodelled- could be easily be flipped for a nice 100K profit

Several people here still defending Riley by trying to make Frost look bad- by expecting him to double the win total in year one- otherwise hes not meeting expectations etc etc Passive aggressive BS

Even as a Riley lover, I have much more faith in Frost's ability than you do.

I know the game
I never got behind Riley because I knew the game- and what it took to win in the BIG and at Nebraska- I was 100% right- ended up just like I said it would

Im not the foam finger 11 year old kid whose gone to 7 games in his life and never played or read a newspaper

Frost is going to win here
He is going to show consistent progress- not the nonsense/lameness/absolute incompetence we saw under Riley
He is going to be winning Division Titles by year 4 and competing for League Titles in year 5
