No inside information here, but what I wanna believe is that Freeman’s agent is just angling for a counteroffer.

The staff needs to learn negotiation and leverage tactics. Why not pursue the top 2 priorities at each position simultaneously? That way you can create your own countering moves behind the scene. Move into a position of authority.
