everyone on here continues to boast about our magical Bowl Game appearance last football season

I don't know why you're holding the basketball coach to an infinitely higher standard

after all, we qualified for the hoops equivalent of the Pinstripe Bowl

One thing to consider the previous year….do you really think people would have been happy about pinstripe bowl if they had made the Outback bowl the year before? It’s not the same comparison. Had Fred not made the tourney last year would people be as upset today? I say no

I don’t believe Fred is a terrible college coach. The transfers we brought in didn’t pan out very well and Gary sucked bigtime at times this year. Freds biggest failure this year is that he didn’t sufficiently replace Mast. I really thought this roster had the potential to be our deepest in a long time. Meah and Berke disappointed me greatly and Gary was awful in some games. Gotta get better guard play. Need more than one who can score. Tournament time is about guard play.
When is the last time we've had so called point guards or shooting guards

Also Fred went 14-45 (31%) in first 2 seasons. No postseason tournament, most recent tourney appearance was 2 years prior to his arrival. Rhule is 12-13 (48%) with a postseason appearance. Most recent one was 7 years prior to his arrival. Can you begin to see the differences here?

Northwestern made it. Northwestern has zero budget and most kids can't even get into that school.

Next year being worse? How? By not making the conference tourney again?

Northwestern was just as bad as us this year?

Fred overreacted to the loss against A&M in the tournament last year. We got killed on the boards in that game, so he went out and signed a bunch of big bodies (Meah, Morgan, Berke). But he didn't sign anyone who had the ability to make plays on offense/create a shot. Add in the fact that Essegian and Griffiths did not pan out to be the great shooters they were hyped up to be.

He will get one more year to bring in a portal class, hopefully the powers that be will give him a blank NIL check, or he's going to have to find some real diamonds in the rough. But that's why he gets paid the big bucks, to be able to evaluate talent.

I see Fred came on HuskerRadio to do some damage control. Usually you do those after the season. I think we’re done for the year. I think the team has checked out. I don’t blame them. We are toast.

We’re a Blue Blood in football

Worst Power basketball program in history

Im not defending Fred. The double standard is just very funny.

Coaching carousel is the most fun we have as NU fans.

Fred's still handicapped at NU. Don't think he should get fired. He hasn't been able to get any big players bc NU's been outbid in NIL. If Hoiberg had oregon's nil budget he'd have a really good team.
What is Nebraskas budget? What is oregons?

Right on. Unfortunately he hitched his wagon to big bodies that are needed in the BIG to compete. The problem was our big bodies can't run, jump and shoot like the other bigs in the BIG conference. Plus our 3 pt. perimeter shooters were a disappointment. And to top it off our point guard play was probably the weakest in the league. Other than that we should have made the NCAA?

I assume you are referring to when Moe had the illegall practices behind locked doors at the old University High gym on campus back in the day. And got caught.
The illegal practices were at Mabel Lee Hall, but yes, Moe was trying to pull a sneaky one there.

I thought very few would know or remember that.😎 Didn’t Moe get fired that year even after making the dance? Reasoning being boring basketball with very little talent. The more things change, the more they stay the same..😂

Are you sure those kids were ignored? Or did they say no thanks I want to go to a good program instead
Wake Forest is a better program 🤔 In the last 15 years they've managed 6 winning seasons, but somehow Sallis goes halfway across the country to a "better program".

Anyway I regress, it's very clear Fred has no interest in recruiting the state real hard. If he had, especially with the recent influx in talent throughout the state the last few years. Nebraska could've been looking at a Top 25 team, if they recruited just 50% of the recent big names these last few years.

He is just trolling, he sounds rather jealous to be honest about it. Those big east schools are all high quality and have a lot of successful graduates. For him to say most of the schools have zero NIL is a lie. He might be thinking of the Missouri Valley?

Imagine a team with chuckie, hunter, tonje, fiddler, saint, and Kyle as your base. Sucks to be us and get zero of these dudes. Does anyone really know if it was lack of interest or money?

If we have a competitive NIL to get difference makers im all for letting Fred go. If this years transfer class is the best we can afford let him run it back. Won’t make a difference who the coach is if we can’t get players. This years transfer haul was abysmal.

I think Moe might have made it one more year before receiving the walking papers. After Hoppen was gone his recruiting did him in. At some point AD Devaney was able to put the close on Danny Nee having dinner at Lincoln Country Club. He convinced Nee that we needed someone to put some excitement into the job. Nee was able to take care of that.

Including this year WF has had 4 straight winning seasons so yes they are a better program. Historically it’s not even debatable they are much better. Sallis twice went halfway across the country.
Also have you spoken to Fred about who he has recruited? If not you are just guessing. Unless you can provide evidence.
One in state player he did recruit was Issac Traudt who passed on Nebraska twice. Frankie Fidler a year ago.
The better D1 talent in the state just doesn’t want to go to Lincoln.

I loved Danny. I remembered when he would show up at Barry's after games. Throwing down some beers and sharing some colorful language. He could sure bring in talent. The best years of Husker hoops. Best team in Husker history was the NIT championship team. From the brink of mutiny to a really fun team to watch. I still have have my ties and wear them proudly.😂

Yes 1996 from the team quitting practice and going to the AD with grievances about Danny, then coming back together and finishing the season on fire. Had they qualified for the NCAA that year they could have gone to the final 4 with the way they played be last month of the season.
Not getting an NCAA win cost him his job. And we’ve never been back to that level since. Almost parallels the football program and Solich.

As I said I have no problem with people wanting fred gone.

However, this is correct.

Amazing that we hold the basketball coach more accountable for poor results than we do the football coach, considering the histories and relevance differences of the two programs.

Fred did no worse than matt rhule this season and over the past two seasons its not even close how much better.

Moe resigned, literally right after NU lost its first NCAA tournament game. He later came out and said the Regents were pressuring Devaney to fire him during the season, but Devaney let him finish the season and then resign. Moe was quoted in a 2011 interview "I’ve always said this about Nebraska. Because of the fans and facilities, and because of it just being the University of Nebraska - If you can’t win in basketball at the University of Nebraska, you can’t coach."

The counter perspective to those that think we can't attract good coaches due to the program's history.

I would say the best team in Husker history that I remember back to the mid-70s was the '91 team which was referenced earlier in this thread. They finished the year 26-8 and were a #3 seed in the Big Dance. They rolled out a front line that included 7'2" Rich King, 6'10 Tony Farmer, 6'8" Beau Reid, 6'8 Dapreis Owens and 6'8 Carl Hayes, and then had the Polish Rifle coming off the bench as a true frosh. Travesty that team lost in the first round.

The narrative that we can’t attract quality coaches because of our history is just weak, in my opinion.

That team had the best overall season in our history. I remember when Farmer was doubtful for the tournament game. We just didn’t play well in that game. The 1996 NIT team had Lue and Hamilton, though.

Fred has been here 6 years. He has benefit of being able to flip the roster over 80% each year. Stop looking at this year only.

Is Oregon’s NIL just a few huge donors or is their entire fanbase contributing? I raise that question because their game against us their arena was 2/3 filled. How can we use our extraordinary fanbase to our advantage?

Virtually no one was holding Fred accountable until the last two losses. That’s why I kept asking questions even though I’m not a basketball fan. It was always the players, the refs, or the game didn’t matter anyway.

I find the comparison of Fred and Rhule very odd. Like it or not Rhule improved year one to year two. And still made some pretty big changes on the staff and seems like nil amped up this year. Fred 6 years made one tourney then regressed and the wheels fell off this year. Now if Rhule only hits 6-7 wins next year the conversation would make more sense.

Since Fred's hall pass is clearly stamped LACK OF NIL, should there be a different collective in Lincoln?

I would also love to know how much more NIL money Deivon Smith got than Rollie Worster. Maybe St. John's shelled out way more $ than NU did - I really don't know. But last spring Smith was the Utah guard that I wanted badly because he was actually an athletic point guard. Now Smith's going dancing as a #2 or #3 seed and the Huskers are limping into The Crown with the stellar trio of Worster, Sam and Ulis.
