I don't disagree with your sentiment, but it's easier to pay guys in the sports that are making the money. That said if we want to be good at baseball, pay Forbes to stay.
Baseball is the only of the three sports you're talking about that is "burning money" lol. The other two are making money.

I'll repost it. Sounds like we may news out of SC. But precurser... My source was WRONG that a 1) hire had been made on Friday and 2) that it was Schnall. Source might accidentally be right if it ends up being Schnall, but clearly he wasn't hired Thursday. It wont be Forbes... and I'll tell the whole story later... But for now... I openly admit my source was wrong, so you wont find me trying to change the narrative on how I wasn't wrong.

If I lived closer I would absolutely put my money on baseball season tickets over any other sport. Baseball team is always competitive and like Greg said, on average you’re paying 8.95 per game for season tickets. That’s an absolute steal.

On paper, you are correct, but in my opinion there is a bigger picture to evaluate beyond the P&L.
If we had a way to measure the indirect value created by our baseball program's success over the last 20 years—through national television exposure, brand growth, increased alumni engagement, donations, applications, and overall visibility—I believe the program would be profitable or, at a minimum, break even.
Beyond the financials, I also believe the sustained success of our baseball program strengthens UNC's overall brand and national reputation, which could become increasingly important if the university ever finds itself evaluating opportunities beyond the ACC.

I think Forbes is more concerned about keeping his staff than getting more money for himself.

I don’t think Forbes wants to leave Carolina but I do think he listened when sc came knocking. Hopefully, as most of us assume, he is using it to get raises for his staff. I would expect sc to announce a coach (probably Schnall) in the next 24 hours. No inside info there but just my guess

Ok- story... I have a connection who is a student at SC and this student has (and is currently) interned with various sports programs at SC. I saw the forbes thread on thursday and while I knew he was never leaving UNC, I texted "my source" and said... "There is talk on IC about Forbes and SC". Said student responded... "I was told we're hiring the Coastal coach". This was last Friday.
This is why I posted what I did. My "source" was wrong- in that they had not in fact hired him yet. But the point of the post was to clarify that... while some fans were talking about Forbes, SC had already given up on Forbes before the news had even been posted that they were interested in him last Thursday. Forbes was never anything more than ONE "reach out from SC" that ended very quickly.

This probably deserves it‘a own thread but since the subject came up here, I would like to know what are the biggest drivers that create a loss of revenue for WBB and baseball? Is it travel, salaries, something else? Just curious because I know if there was an easy solution it would have already occured. In my opinion the ticket prices for both sports are a bargain comparatively.
Good question. I would assume salary and travel costs since these 2 teams probably travel more by plane than other sports.
Watching Forbes and the pure joy on his face Sunday, it was hard for me to imagine that he'd leave. As others have said, he's a heel through and through.
John Whittle on South Carolina’s 247 site is claiming Forbes met with the South Carolina AD twice last week. I find that very hard to believe.
If others are right that Forbes secured more resources for the program, I don't mind Forbes talking with SC at all. Great outcome for fans that want to see us compete at the highest level. $EC is hard to keep up with
I could see him taking the initial call just to be respectful and then making a second call to turn them down. Doubt he would meet in person.
I could see maybe a zoom call, but I see no way that he would leave his team twice the week they’re hosting supers to talk to another AD. Forbes is basically the Roy Williams of our Baseball program. He’s a Tar Heel through and through and I’m not sure he’d leave even if the Dodgers came calling.
Yeah that makes sense and now we have to travel from coast to coast and North to South. For some of the teams with lots of players that has got to be expensive. I was really wondering how much of the cost was salaries and staff. Not that you can do much about that either. This thread underscores that.
Not my place at the moment. Maybe another time. I can say SC was prepared to make Forbes on of the highest paid coaches in America. Same with his staff and NIL. This was a full court press. Saying they had no shot or Forbes didn’t consider it is wrong.
