No doubt.I have to assume a national media member will ask Forbes directly about SCAR at an Omaha presser this week.
I don't disagree with your sentiment, but it's easier to pay guys in the sports that are making the money. That said if we want to be good at baseball, pay Forbes to stay.Definitely. And honestly he deserves it. If his market rate is $2 mil and we’re paying top dollar for the other two big men’s sports coaches who haven’t done anything here yet it’s pretty much a no-brainer. letting Forbes for to SC would be the worst possible way for Newmark to start his tenure here.
Baseball is the only of the three sports you're talking about that is "burning money" lol. The other two are making money.I don’t think letting your coach who’s coaching on a home team discount walk while football is a train wreck and there’s major controversy over the future of basketball will help drive revenue. Baseball is the only sport where it doesn’t feel like we’re burning money right now. Just my opinion.
I'll repost it. Sounds like we may news out of SC. But precurser... My source was WRONG that a 1) hire had been made on Friday and 2) that it was Schnall. Source might accidentally be right if it ends up being Schnall, but clearly he wasn't hired Thursday. It wont be Forbes... and I'll tell the whole story later... But for now... I openly admit my source was wrong, so you wont find me trying to change the narrative on how I wasn't wrong.
I’ll be curious to hear your version of events and compare notes.I'll repost it. Sounds like we may news out of SC. But precurser... Interesting…I heard he had negotiated a deal where he reports directly to JorDon HudSon via the platform formerly known as twitter.I heard he negotiated a new deal where he will report directly to the governor

If I lived closer I would absolutely put my money on baseball season tickets over any other sport. Baseball team is always competitive and like Greg said, on average you’re paying 8.95 per game for season tickets. That’s an absolute steal.I paid $350 per seat this year for season tickets. I would happily pay double that if it would help the program. I pay considerably more for my season tickets for basketball and football, but baseball is so much more enjoyable.
Yeah that’s the tough dynamic. Have to find a way to break even or lessen the loss.Baseball is the only of the three sports you're talking about that is "burning money" lol. The other two are making money.
40K from what we spent on football last season should not be missed. I will stop calling the football program a clown show when the 73 year old coach stops skipping letterman events to watch his 24 ? Year old girlfriend cheer ! Deal .You can insult the football program and it is probably warranted but, we better invest in it with everything we can because, that's what drives revenue. I love our baseball program and want to it to be the top program in the country but, taking money from a revenue generating sport and giving it to a program that consistently breaks even or losing money would be something that will get an AD fired.
probably ? Look take 400 K fron BBYou can insult the football program and it is probably warranted but, we better invest in it with everything we can because, that's what drives revenue. On paper, you are correct, but in my opinion there is a bigger picture to evaluate beyond the P&L.I understand this thinking, but for the fans who believe this is the right approach, there has to be an accompanying conversation about how to generate more interest in the program to help drive revenue. It's a legitimate challenge with UNC currently sitting in the ACC.
In 2024-25, UNC reported a $22.9 million surplus in men's basketball, a $14.2 million surplus in football, and a $2 million deficit in baseball.
“That wasn’t happening”
Entire staff and nil got a massive bumpI think Forbes is more concerned about keeping his staff than getting more money for himself.
Need to keep Gaines. Increase staff salary.
This is not correct.Ok- story... I have a connection who is a student at SC and this student has (and is currently) interned with various sports programs at SC. I saw the forbes thread on thursday and while I knew he was never leaving UNC, I texted "my source" and said... "There is talk on IC about Forbes and SC". Said student responded... "I was told we're hiring the Coastal coach". This was last Friday.
This is why I posted what I did. My "source" was wrong- in that they had not in fact hired him yet. But the point of the post was to clarify that... while some fans were talking about Forbes, SC had already given up on Forbes before the news had even been posted that they were interested in him last Thursday. Forbes was never anything more than ONE "reach out from SC" that ended very quickly.
It becomes much simpler financially if UNC can get to a P2 conference, for one, but there's also minimal cost in maintaining the 24 non-revenue sports outside of baseball and women's basketball. That's why UNC is working hard on program-specific endowments to cover the operational costs for those sports. But collectively, yes, it becomes a challenge with 26 sports operating at a loss. That being said, there remains a commitment to funding the sports currently being played.
This probably deserves it‘a own thread but since the subject came up here, I would like to know what are the biggest drivers that create a loss of revenue for WBB and baseball? Is it travel, salaries, something else? Just curious because I know if there was an easy solution it would have already occured. In my opinion the ticket prices for both sports are a bargain comparatively. Those types of meet-and-greets certainly are beneficial, but the more the fanbase grows, the more butts you get in the seats and the more you can charge for tickets.
Here are the per-seat ticket revenue breakdowns for the four primary sports in 2024-25:
Football:$39.85
MBB: $53.33
WBB: $5.64
Baseball: $8.98 (includes regionals/supers)
Good question. I would assume salary and travel costs since these 2 teams probably travel more by plane than other sports. This probably deserves it‘a own thread but since the subject came up here, I would like to know what are the biggest drivers that create a loss of revenue for WBB and baseball? Is it travel, salaries, something else? Just curious because I know if there was an easy solution it would have already occured. Gotcha. Just know... the part about my source is factual. This is not correct.
Yeah the coaches get paid well and travel is more expensive. This probably deserves it‘a own thread but since the subject came up here, I would like to know what are the biggest drivers that create a loss of revenue for WBB and baseball? John Whittle on South Carolina’s 247 site is claiming Forbes met with the South Carolina AD twice last week. I find that very hard to believe.
