My point is giving BB and that clown show extra revenue share is wasting money. Take 400
Thousand from BB , he still has millions of dollars that will probably get us 3 or 4 wins this year but give Forbes the 400 thousand and keep baseball strong . What is 400 thousand dollars compared to the millions already flushed down the toilet on the football program.

Go check the ACC football recruiting rankings? We are currently 15 of 17 in the ACC !! We can take 400 thousand dollars from BB and still get these players we are getting! I say it again football is a joke at Carolina.

Forbes smoke is real.

On SCar's end.

Forbes is not reciprocating as of now.

UNC has done their due diligence and already has a plan in place. With all that said, it's far more likely another former Tar Heel heads to Columbia. ;)

It would be a massive downgrade for him, solely would be only about money. This makes ABSOLUTELY No sense in any form of sorts.

UNC is an established and the most consistent program for years. Leaving to have to rebuild with SC which is battling tough opponents just doesn’t sound like something Forbes would do.

regardless I HATE the distraction this close to another Omaha trip.
Why outside of Football ? They fail over and over
okay they make money-but ussually they contribute to the " common good" less than Basketball (mens)

This attitude is why.

True, but basketball isn't gonna get us into the SEC, and no matter how much we spend on basketball, the potential for profit from football is so much greater if we can actually get good at it.
Football isn’t the reason either. It’s the media market.

The ACC is in many of the biggest media markets in the country, while the SEC is scattered across a bunch of small media markets. It has nothing to do with media markets. It's about the number of people who tune in to watch football, which is about the size of the alumni base, the passion of the fans, the ability of a team to capture national attention from fans without a rooting interest, and the quality of the football team. Our problem is that UNC football doesn't get eyeballs outside of our own fans, our program doesn't compete for titles, it doesn't regularly play teams who are competing for titles, and our alumni base is small compared to a lot of other state schools.

John Swofford's main error was thinking that it was about media markets.

You might want to read some of Greg’s articles. The SEC and Big 10 want UNC because they want to get into the NC media market.

Forbes wouldn’t be reciprocating but his agent would.

I've read them. Yes, the size of NC as a state matters, but the Big Ten and SEC want us because of our brand. That's the reason they want us and not NC State. Market size doesn't matter if you can't capture the market. BC didn't capture the Boston market. Syracuse didn't capture the NY market. Even UCLA and USC struggle to capture the LA market. UNC's brand is far more important than anything related to market size.

Brand power + getting into the media market in NC.

Either way, it’s not a football or basketball thing.

That's just not true. Basketball is maybe a quarter of a media deal. The rest is football. Everything else loses money. Maybe you should re-read Greg's articles that you condescendingly recommended I read.

I’m not saying basketball matters more, but even if football wins 4 games next year, the SEC/Big 10 will still want UNC.

It’s not about football success. Your initial post said “basketball isn’t going to get us into the SEC”. Football isn’t the reason the Big 10/SEC want us either.

It’s about the brand and getting into the media market.

Both the Big Ten and the SEC have told us that we need to invest more in football in order to be invited to their conferences.

Our football program is such a joke. I wish we could take some of the millions wasted on the staff and NIL and put it towards baseball. The fact that Lombardi is the highest paid GM in college football and is absolutely clueless is honestly sad.
Football makes money. Football is the reason we can have such an excellent money losing baseball program.

Imma believe Greg Barnes on this one. The SEC and the Big Ten have minimum levels of investment in football that they expect from members - levels that we've only recently been meeting.
Haha. Thats not what you originally said.

This is the dumbest post I've seen on this board in a long time. You are clueless
Good grief. It's not dumb, and y'all react like whiny kicked dogs.

On a thread in which we're talking about how we don't have the money we need for baseball NIL because we need to spend that money instead on football and basketball, y'all are doubting why we need to spend the money on football.

Both leagues have told us that we must meet minimum investments in football to be invited to their conferences. It's a minimum expectation of membership. Only recently have we been investing at the appropriate level, and we have to continue to spend at that level. That's a fact, whether you think it's stupid or not.

So yes, we must invest more in football. It's the gateway to future success for us.

No they haven't. Like a previous poster said, show me where they have
