I’m curious to hear what the experience was like (other than losing the game). How was everything from an operations standpoint? What was the atmosphere like?
Negatives...The pumped in crowd noise made it awful and the vote for change/social justice video made it worse, oh yeah on campus parking was supposedly $40....Positives...had plenty of room to stretch out, I got in smoothly and got a $7 beer. Student section was pretty loud... I don’t know what crowd size was but they could easily double that and still have plenty room to social distance.
We were moved to the upper deck and couldn't help but notice that the fans around us weren't your typical upper deck type fans. Heard lots of rumblings around us about the heights and long climbs to the seats. I personally enjoyed the view of the field and change of scenery. Concessions and restrooms weren't bad at all. Maybe I'll save some money in the future and relocate up top.
I sit in lower level but it does take a little getting use to sitting that high. You can see the plays developed and you can see the interception coming before anyone on the field. It's amazing how tight coverage is.
The spacing in the stadium is very inconsistent.
Everyone should be spaced out in the lower bowl for crowd noise. We have little to no home field advantage
The guy with the old bulldog flag from Section 4 got moved up top. I was pissed.
The experience was fine overall. It was a very odd atmosphere. Everything from parking to walking into the stadium just had a creepy feel to it. As far as game day ops go, they get an F from me in all facets. Here are my gripes:
1.) The piped in crowd noise. It wasn’t loud enough to add any value to the atmosphere but it was just loud enough to be an annoying distraction. Playing it the entire time, non stop. Through tv timeouts and everything. ESPECIALLY when we had the ball. Doesn’t make sense why you would want a low annoying humming sound blaring from the speakers while your own team has the ball.
2.) The social justice video was absolute garbage. Completely killed what little atmosphere there was. Was 5 minutes too long, the student athletes spoke monotone the entire time throughout the video. They played it before the game and at halftime. Most people beside me immediately went to their phones or said screw it and went inside the concession area when it started. The game is no place for that.
3.) The band’s halftime performance. SO we do not allow the band onto the field at halftime but we do play a video of them performing on their practice field from a few days before. Explain to me the logic in that?
4.) Our clock operator in the stadium is a moron. If you can’t figure out when I am referring to, ask me. It was pretty obvious.
5.) The new food was good but I would like something other than bbq during the game. At the very top of the stadium that was our only choice. I guess I would have had to go all the way to the ground to get something different.
6.) Parking was not 40 that I know of. I parked over by the hump and got in and out with no issues at all. It was free parking from what I could tell. At least we weren’t asked to pay anything.
7.) The crowd. The crowd was pretty good and loud for the most part. My thing is that we could easily fit several thousand more people and still have plenty of space between everyone. It seemed to me from the looks of it that there was absolutely no system to decide who sat where. Very poorly handled by the university on this front IMO. I saw a game (maybe Clemson) where they had everyone striped from the top of the stadium to the bottom. It looked very uniform and made sense. Ours were just scattered all over the place. Not to mention I didn’t even know if I had tickets to get in until about 4 days before the game. Again, I think the entire situation was handled poorly by the university.
Yep, I noticed in an email monday that they were delaying the sale of student tickets until this coming monday instead of this past monday like they usually do (instead of selling student tickets two weeks in advance they are selling them 5 days in advance of the game) I have a feeling they are changing protocols and are going to sell less student tickets due to the amount of people in the student section....At the few times they showed the student section on television, it looked like it was pretty full. I don't think they could have possibly sat 2 feet apart, let alone 6.
Has anyone contacted the university about the SJW video bull? I ain't paying good money and time going to another event to listen to that ********. I don't go to sporting events to be preached at about politics.
The 5 minute social justice/halftime video was way over the top. Most just ignored it, but I don't want to be preached to at a game I'm paying good money to attend.
I would say, in terms of the messages you see on the court and our jerseys, this was an extraordinary moment in time when we began these discussions with the players and what we all lived through this summer. My sense is there’ll be somewhat a return to normalcy, that those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor.” Adam Silver said.
I understand those people who are saying, ‘I’m on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game,” said Silver
The NBA has learned the hard way. The finals are down something like 70% and Silva made a statement saying they will keep it out of the game next season.
Had this been a normal crowd, it could have been very bad for MSU sports.
70% down! Can you imagine how much that would push MSU back?
1. Very eerie with no tailgating.
2. Entry and exit of campus was a breeze.
3. The jumbotron volume is still set for a full stadium as it was noticably louder in the scoreboard club.
4. The 'Hey' cheer is even more screwed up since the band does it from the corner of the student section instead of the middle of the field. But, instead of a timing issue with students rushing it, it sounded more like the crowd was doing it in rounds like you used to sing row your boat when you were a kid. That, of course, was due to the speed of sound. I heard 3 distinct groups finish at 3 different times.
5. Unlike ole miss, we didn't mic our band in the stands. And, our band sounded better because of that. The natural sound is just better and although limited in number, they were plenty loud.
6. The piped in crowd noise, while not bothersome to me, was strange as I don't think they ever turned it off. Timeout, injury, let-down play etc.... it just seemed to keep going.
