Fix the Penalties First

One thing I've learned over the years when dealing with a collosal shitstorm is that you should focus on the most fixable things first. This team isn't going to win many (or any) games this year (except BC), so start benching players that make unforced errors for a quarter or two. NU used to always win the penalty stats (accounting for a difference in yardage that might well be worth a full touchdown over the course of the game). We lost this discipline in the Pelini years and never regained it in the intervening years. We've paid a heavy price in games against teams with similar talent (which is now Akron level). I'd like to see Scott really crack down here even if it means playing the 3rd string for a quarter.

What little i heard from Coach Frost's post game press conference on btn immediately following the game, he said they would like to do that but they just don't have depth. I am paraphrasing.

UCF was one of the most penalized teams in the country under Frost. I’d be interested to see if that is just a product of playing fast. But long story short, the penalties are likely here to stay. The only difference is Frost doesn’t have a team that can outscore everyone...for now.

Maybe they should go back to the old grade school punishment where's as the teacher ask who did it and nobody speaks up so the whole class is punished. Next game who ever commits a penalty everyone runs stadium steps if it a 5 yard it 5 times up and down hey if they have 80 yard that's a lot of steps but maybe they'll finally get the hint to stop these stupid penalties

I don't think UCF had the false start penalty issues last year, only Frost's first year. UCF hasn't had many penalties so far this year, either. I think it's just a product of learning a fast paced offense.

College football officiating is awful. There were some legit calls out there yesterday but the refs yesterday were just awful. No way around it. The no call PI on Morgan was pathetic. There was a ref right there. So either he’s awful or he’s dirty. Same with all the questionable calls on 3rd downs that bailed them out. At least on 2 scores, they didn’t earn the points, the zebras gave it to them.

What bothers me the most is the inconsistency. If your going to be a flag happy crew, which they obviously were yesterday, then be consistent. I saw a ton of holes by Purdue especially their RT, that they seemed to ignore. Again, fine, don’t call them. But then don’t bail Purdue out on 3rd and Longs on multiple occasions.

You noticed at the end of the game, the officials started calling pointless 5 yard calls Purdue. It’s as if they wanted to level out their calls, so their stat line didn’t look too heavy sided.

College football officials have killed this sport

Very few of our penalties are false starts. We had a couple illegal formation penalties earlier which is not a surprise. However, I will never understand how a receiver would not know or realize whether you need to be on or off the line of scrimmage.

A few holding calls which isn't surprising in any games but especially if you are getting whipped and trying to protect the QB from getting killed.

I would venture to say that the bulk of our penalty yards are personal fouls, pass interference/defensive holding, and special teams. These are just poor discipline and stupid penalties.

Whoever Nebraska gets for officials from here on out the rest of this season will know that Nebraska is one of the most penalized teams in the country and unfortunately I don't see the officials change one bit.

That's what I said yesterday too that the officiating was a 14 point swing. It's going to happen. Good teams can overcome that. Tells where we are. Good teams also tend to be the beneficiary of those calls as well.

Until we start winning we are not going to get any favorable calls, and the sooner the team realize it the better just because the other team gets away with it doesn't mean you will. And if you thought we go shafted yesterday wait till this coming weekend, Wisconsin has always held the defensive lineman big time and there dbs hold up receivers
