Care to elaborate? That’s a lot of justification going on there.
I didn’t think it’d be controversial to say I cheer for Northwestern on a Northwestern board..

Winston & Strawn is a big firm, so maybe there were some on his team. But Dan Webb, who was front and center, graduated from Loyola's law school.
Last I checked there were roughly 100 people on the Board of Trustees at NU.I am not 100% sure Nkrthwestern isn’t better off from a purely football perspective to not have Pat Fitzgerald as a head coach any more, but I am EXTREMELY sure this would be a mild footnote scandal at nearly every other major school in the country that would have blown over in July and be a weird footnote by week 8. Instead, the nitwits who call themselves elites and intellectuals who run our school panicked over a report in a STUDENT NEWSPAPER and exploded the athletic department over it. These are the sorts of people who can’t run a hot dog stand, much less a major institution. Maybe putting people on the Board of Trustees because they talk funny about sports on TV isn’t the best governance model.
This week it cost the school a massive pile of cash, something even these idiots can’t overlook.
and now we get to hope that if Fitz ends up back in the Big Ten it’s at least not at Iowa
This is extremely true. Fitz should have been fired for poor performance and the program is better off with him gone. And NU leadership embarrassed themselves in their handling of this whole thing.I am not 100% sure Nkrthwestern isn’t better off from a purely football perspective to not have Pat Fitzgerald as a head coach any more, but I am EXTREMELY sure this would be a mild footnote scandal at nearly every other major school in the country that would have blown over in July and be a weird footnote by week 8. If he did, he would likely open NU up to another lawsuitBased on the statements from both Fitz and NU, it sounds like NU folded on just about everything. The only thing more that Fitz could have asked for would be firing Schill. It's funny that Schill himself is reportedly not allowed to make a statement, although I doubt the weasel would say anything in any case.
Sorry but once it was determined that NU had no justification for firing Fitz for cause, they immediately owed Fitz the rest of his contract plus interest plus legal fees as a minimum ant that takes it to $100 mill or moreNah. That was a high ball for negotiation. $50-60 maybe.
Heck they broke his (Fitz's) leg in 95 so he did not get to play in the Rose BowlIowa seems plausible. One of his sons is there. He and Ferrentz seem to get along. Some online Hawkeyes are even talking about him in the Succession pool. It would be ironic, though. When Hayden Fry talked trash about not wanting to "hurt your boys", it was after the 1994 game. Fitz would have been one of those boys. He needs to spin in his grave.

Not sure with the new lack of alignment(no divisions and IA is not a protected rival) it makes any difference as long as it is not IL (Is Purdue protected?)I am not 100% sure Nkrthwestern isn’t better off from a purely football perspective to not have Pat Fitzgerald as a head coach any more, but I am EXTREMELY sure this would be a mild footnote scandal at nearly every other major school in the country that would have blown over in July and be a weird footnote by week 8. Good luck getting another 100 to volunteerLast I checked there were roughly 100 people on the Board of Trustees at NU.
Fire them all too! Clean house.
From what I have seen, it is likely that the settlement was higher (As soon as NU could not prove justification to fire him for cause, NU owed him $68 mill plus interest and probably legal fees, If you mean he netted out $70 mil then maybeWord on the street is that Fitz got paid $70M in the settlement.
After his lawyers take 33-40%, he may have to pay Illinois State & Federal taxes given its replacing lost income.
He got paid regardless.![]()
Who knows. $70M pre or post legal feels is still a ton of money. From what I have seen, it is likely that the settlement was higher (As soon as NU could not prove justification to fire him for cause, NU owed him $68 mill plus interest and probably legal fees, If you mean he netted out $70 mil then maybe
People live in poverty all over the country, but what that has to do with NU's inappropriate firing of Pat Fitzgerald is beyond me.Who knows. $70M pre or post legal feels is still a ton of money.
Meanwhile, NU employees keep losing jobs & countless kids in Evanston, Chicago, and other suburbs live in poverty.
I had forgotten that the injury was from Iowa.Heck they broke his (Fitz's) leg in 95 so he did not get to play in the Rose Bowl
Do you realize that NU has more than one employee for every two students? I think that is even including part time students. Talk about bloat.Who knows. $70M pre or post legal feels is still a ton of money.

The figure would include the medical school and hospital. Many graduate students are employees in one form or another too.Do you realize that NU has more than one employee for every two students? I think that is even including part time students. Talk about bloat.
We also do tons of research and pay people to help. The figure would include the medical school and hospital. Many graduate students are employees in one form or another too.

Sorry but I think NU Medical School is separate from that. The figure would include the medical school and hospital. Many graduate students are employees in one form or another too.
I believe that the Medical School is a separate entityWe also do tons of research and pay people to help.
Universities are top employers in many areas of the country.
Universities do more than just teach students though. They do research. They do athletics. They provide services to the community. They get involved in business. They have to respond to local and federal regulations. They also have to run an entire large scale dining and hospitality business for the thousands of students who call campus home most of the year. I don't think a certain employee:student ratio automatically means there is bloat.Sorry but I think NU Medical School is separate from that.

Seems pretty evident that the medical school is separate.
They list about 23K students full and part time I think there are around 8400 FT undergrad students so the other 15K are likely grad and mostly part time
I believe the second part is just in Evanston (that is what I tried to get) though I suppose it could include downtown campus but does not look like it includes any in the NU Medical school
Efficiency is demanded in any actual business. (Not sure that those large scale dining that you talk about are even actual NU employees and not outside vendors). Basically every other industry either becomes more efficient or disappears. Education has gotten pretty bloated over the years. Again that is more than one employee for every two students whether full or part time. (I already showed that the Med school is separate) and they are not cheap. Profs average over $161K but other positions still average over $85K. They need to become more efficient or they will face problems going forwardUniversities do more than just teach students though. "Efficient" is a great word that businesses love to use, but cutting costs, especially people costs, does not automatically make things more efficient. It also leads to bigger problems for a society.Efficiency is demanded in any actual business. Isn't that usually contracted out? I'm not saying that those jobs would exist without the university, but I also don't think they count as university employees. They also have to run an entire large scale dining and hospitality business for the thousands of students who call campus home most of the year.
