I don’t think we deserve to be #1 with so many unknowns, but I feel really good about this team’s chances as we go forward. Not sure if I’m just being a homer or missing something obvious, but the expectations are sky high for a team of ours that’s ranked 10th.

Don’t care about how high Iowa and Wisconsin are ranked, they are not final four teams. They might return a bunch of players but there is a reason for that....they were average teams last year and don’t have any nba players.

Our one returning player with actual minutes of game time in a Kentucky jersey is injured. Ranking us #10 is generous, and fully reflects the quality of the class and Cal’s ability to make it work. Hopefully we’re #1 by the end of the season but could easily imagine some tough losses that take us further down the ladder in the early going.

Kentucky is too high. Don't get me wrong, you guys can reach that spot by seasons end but you will have some growing pains until then. That said, that is not my biggest issue with the poll. It loses credibility by placing Tennessee so low. The Vols are probable top 5, definitely top 10.

You’re either lost or dumb or both if you’re looking for validation here dude.

Toppin, Mintz, and Sarr all have experience so I don’t get the inexperienced argument. Maybe time to gel...ok I get that. But with Brooks and those 3, UK may have more returning talent than they’ve have had in recent years.

Another poster lost on his way to the Lady's Hoops board. This is the Men's Basketball Board, you know, the sport where Tennessee has finished as high as the Elite Eight exactly once on program history, and never higher.

Extra motivation never hurts. Still too low, but that's why they play the games.

Well, at least we get to rip that #6 away from KU early on in the season. That is if they don't lose before they play us. Dook is in a similar situation as us with youth, but doesn't have as much talent coming in so I don't see how they are considered a Top 10 team. We have a strong schedule so all we have to do is take care of business and the NET won't be able to F with us.

Yeah, our Cats have been ranked much higher in some seasons with much younger players and more unknown commodities. This team should be ranked higher, but I'm not even sweating it. Whatever. I'm like you, maybe missing something, but I feel really good about this team. If they gel and play together, the potential here is through the roof. I'll just wait and see.

Apparently Matthew Hurt is the difference maker... despite a worse recruiting class and less impact transfers. The hoops that the media will jump through to downplay Kentucky is comical.

I can see the top 4 being ranked ahead of us now (Gonzaga, Baylor, Villanova, and Virginia), but I think we’ll end up being better than those teams later in the year. The next five? No way. Iowa has one really good player and plays zero defense. Way overrated. Wisconsin? Ah, no. Illinois? No. Kansas and Duke? Predictable for them to be ranked higher, but not accurate. Kansas isn’t top 10, much less number 6. Duke just doesn’t have the number of players to be ranked above us. It’ll be nice when we eventual,y blow by them.

DMP with the very Tennessee like take. How's that feel?

I just don’t know how many times we have to watch this play out before we understand. Cal’s dominant teams in the early season have combined elite new talent with returning contributors (2010, 2012, 2015). Every other team has struggled through the regular season.

This team is very similar to the 2014 and 2018 teams. We a pile of elite talent, but it’s very young and inexperienced. Both of those teams finished with 11 losses, including some total head-scratchers. I’m not saying this season won’t be better than those seasons, but it’s crazy to think we should be Top 5 right now. Absolutely crazy.
