Maybe he isn’t interested. It would be his 4th stent with Nebraska. He was let go from here twice already. Would you return to a place that decided to do that?
Everything is about timing and every situation is different. If he sees Rhule as being serious about improving this team, with the other coaching changes made recently, he may want to jump on board.

I have never seen such an awful special teams coach. His unit turns routine plays into game-altering disasters.
I think it is likely now that Foley either gets fired or probably more likely moved to another position sometime before Spring practice starts. Rhule said he has to work on addressing Special Teams so that's the clue.

I believe he has a contract so either way he will be getting paid for another 12 months.
I bet they reassign him. The special teams issue is bigger than just the coordinator. There are a lot of questions-
Do the practice special teams? How often? At what point in practice? Do they go live? Do they go 100%? What's the goal of the return game? Ever plan on actually returning punts? The list goes on...

Whomever they bring in, they better decide on actually blocking, tackling, returning kicks, and just doing stuff that well coached teams do.

My answer was in regards to Satterfield. I was thinking the assistants run on 2 year contracts but maybe they weren’t extended after season 1. About Foley though what would they reassign him to?

And if it doesn’t?

From the “apparent” angle of the ball, it definitely would have gone out, but worst case is a touchback…. I would say slipping or dropping the ball both more likely on that play.

Not a game changing play by any stretch, but it’s about having mental sharpness on Special Teams… every detail.
Obviously, this year was an abysmal failure in that regard. We’ve been perpetually beaten on special teams most of these past recent years, yet we’re paying a lot of money only asking for average or better results.

I’m not convinced it would have gone out. Touchback maybe. I agree slipping may have been a bigger concern. That said, he returned it out past the 25 so better than a touchback. It’s easy for us to sit on the sofa and criticize after the fact without knowing the field conditions or what has been said in meetings and pregame. Hidden yards do matter. IF it is headed for a touchback, then he made a good play. IF it would have gone out of bounds (not bounce as some posters say), then he didn’t make a good decision. It’s all speculation after the fact.

My guess is an off field position related to recruiting and working with high school coaches.

Opposing teams have done this a lot to us because we tend to react stupidly

Is he gone yet? @HBK4life will have the info for when he does, but damn it can't come soon enough. On the flip side, I wish I was Ed Foley. 500K a year just to travel around and eat at all the great small town restaurants throughout NE and the ability to not get fired after being probably the worst ST coach NU has ever had (this includes Bruce Read). What a life!

Glad this fat fvcktard Foley is gone as of 12/31/24.

Also with expiring contracts are Raiola and Barthel as of 12/31/24.

Dvoracek, Thomas, and Satterfield have contracts that expire 12/31/25.

I think you see Donnie stay and Foley and Barthel exit stage left.

Rhule likes Donovan's style so I think he stays. Having said that 25 is where the Oline better show marked improvement.
Agreed. I think they need to make a big jump next year, but I said in another thread that I think OL is far from our biggest issue. There were holes there this year that were missed a number of times and I think DR had plenty of time to throw the ball. We need EJ and whoever the #2 back is to start finding and hitting the hole. Also, we need this next group of WR's to get open and beat man coverage. I like what we have with Barney and the two transfers, but until they perform it is still an issue. The last piece is TE's and their blocking. #44 was fantastic at the bowl game, but #24 (if he stays) whiffed a lot again. The TE position blocking this year wasn't great, but hopefully the bowl game shows that the future is bright.
