More proof we aren't a serious country. Idiot thinking like yours will cause untold thousands of deaths in this country

Lol untold thousands of deaths? The death total is at 63 currently in the US. 63. More people got murdered in major cities this weekend than by coronavirus. Drink bleach please. We have enough overreacting morons as it is making things worse without sports message board guy mouthing off about panicky **** he read off the internet.

Serious question.

Why do you think you understand more about how this works than epidemiologist and infections disease experts?

Serious question. I am willing to debate politely if you can explain it. I honestly want to know how people come to the conclusion that these people are wrong.

The top infections disease expert has stated this could kill that many. Why do you disagree?

We second guess teachers, college and pro athletes, politicians, law enforcement officers, lawyers, clergy, etc. And most people doing the second guessing aren't any of those.

I'm not sure if you are trying to say that is a good reason to second guess them here. Because most of the time when you start second guessing experts you come out wrong...not always, but most of the time. Especially more advanced study fields like clergy, law, medicine

The thing is the stakes are high enough here.... thousands of lives....that the people second guessing should explain themselves.

Why do some of you disagree with Fauci? I honestly want to hear real reasons why. What research have you put in? What specifically made you decide he is wrong?

I'm saying you shouldn't be surprised. Especially on a board who historically questions every pitching change that ever occurred during a baseball game. It's only natural to question things that carry a higher burden on society than which QB starts or whether or weed should be legalized, etc etc. It's absolutely astounding to me you don't get that after being a member of this board for over 7 years.

Oh I get that. I'm not surprised people here are acting dumb. That's why ive been running around calling people idiots for 3 days. Not because I'm surprised. Frustrated maybe....but more just passing the time while I'm stuck in the house.

But I am legitimately curious as to why they do think like that. I'm not surprised by it, but I am curious why they think Fauci is wrong.

I would like to hear an honest answer

We have a lot of people that seemingly think a lock down here isn't needed, yet not one of them will give actual reasons why.

Just one reason why they think the experts are wrong. It's very telling that they won't. They either ignore it or change the topic.

I’m a UPS driver and really don’t have a choice (unless that choice is ending a 23 year career).

What do you think is happening now? Yep, more online shopping and me getting to meet a lot more of y’all.

Wish I could stay home, however it’s not an option.

So my question is... when does it stop? I mean, if we’ve got to shut down like this because there are 3,000 cases in the US (let’s just assume that’s way under reported due to lack of testing and say there are 10,000-15,000) then do we shut down the entire country until there’s only a handful of fully contained cases in the entire world? I understand the whole “flattening the curve” thing but in my mind shutting stuff down for 2-4 weeks only flattens the front of the curve. At some point the country has to start working again. And then the cases are just going to start growing.

Are we not only delaying the inevitable? In my mind you’d have to lock down the country for 6-9 months until it’s fully contained or a vaccine is produced. But that’s not going to happen. Society as we know it would fall apart before then.

I can think of at least two factors are in play here:

1) ICU Capacity: Lessening the impact on our medical facilities is the primary reason for flattening the curve. Some people will catch it and recover. Some of those will need supportive care in ICU's and will recover and cycle out after a period of time (I've seen it's usually about 2 weeks, but not sure how accurate that is). *If* the assertion is true that once you catch it and recover then you can't catch it again, there will be fewer *potential* cases out in circulation in a couple of weeks. Also, at some point, influenza cases that are taking up ICU beds/ventilators will decrease as "flu" season will be ending soon, so that will increase the capacity to care for COVID19 cases.

2) Testing: Testing kits and other resources will (hopefully) be more available. We will also know a bit more about this virus and how to combat it. Protective equipment and accurate testing will safeguard our frontline health workers. I'm optimistic about testing being widely available soon. Not so much on the protective equipment.

Personally, I think the self-isolation protoccols will likely take more than 2-4 weeks, but we'll see.

I cant remember the last time I saw the UPS delivery guy, much less spoke with him(or her?). I would think that would be a relatively isolated job, at least the residential side of things(you mention more online shopping).
Business pickups and deliveries are for sure interactive.

What an absolutely ignorant post. You are a paranoid conspiracy theorist fool. Frightened at his own shadow and acting out.

Or maybe it's an act. Are you trying some sort of troll act or are you being serious?

You can't possibly be as dumb as you sound so I'm going with a troll act. How old are you? I'm guessing 13. Not many grown men would troll over this

So here we have a 13 year old kid trolling . Where are your parents young man? They are doing an awful job of raising you

It's amazing that on a college sports board with have so many people like Ralph cramden that are scared of education. He made it through 6th grade and by damn that's all anyone needs.

This event has really shown us who the Walmart sidewalk fans are. It has also shown us why Mississippi is last in things like education and common sense

Did you read this article with Fauci listed as an author? How bout that 3rd paragraph?

That the fatality rate is closer to seasonal flu that Sars? Yes I already knew that. SARS and MERS are extremely lethal. That isn't a surprise to people like me that have been following this and keeping up with the actual facts. It has never been considered as fatal as MERS/SARS

Sorry you are just now finding this out. Its probably because you are scared and paranoid of news sites

You also think its some kind of gotcha moment, because you are running around both boards trying to get my attention with it.

Which makes me think you still think this virus is comparable to the flu in totality. Which is absurd. You are an idiot though. So not surprising. We have more than enough proof that this is much more serious than the flu. Its amazing you want to die on this hill.

Its cute I am owning your dome like this. You following me around is flattering.

The problem with this virus isn’t the mortality rate, it’s the rate at which it is transmitted and the number of people who require hospitalization to recover. This outbreak is like everyone getting the flu at the same time. It’s not that it isn’t treatable, it’s that everyone needs treatment within a small window and it crushes the hospitals. This is why we are trying to flatten the curve until we get to a vaccine or herd immunity.

lol..

Are you actually too stupid to understand that report or do you think playing semantics is some great gotcha? He said it would be closer to a seasonal flu (or the 1968 flu) that it is SARS/MERS. This isn't new. Do you still not understand how this can overrun our hospitals? It is literally starting to happen and you are still running around acting like this isn't a big deal.

You really are just now understanding this? Where do you get your news? Seriously? I am honestly curious. Do you read anything other than stuff like infowars? You have constantly been one of the least informed people on this.

You are not a smart person. Even worse you are gullible and paranoid of the media, because you lack the ability to understand complicated things. You are a typical meathead who is scared of what they cannot grasp.

If you have children, my thoughts and prayers are with them

Great news...
The real facts will come out, that the mortality rate is lower than initially thought. Many people have the COVID-19 and don't even know it.
On the basis of a case definition requiring a diagnosis of pneumonia, the currently reported case fatality rate is approximately 2%.4 In another article in the Journal, Guan et al.5 report mortality of 1.4% among 1099 patients with laboratory-confirmed Covid-19; these patients had a wide spectrum of disease severity. If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.
