Probably have a little colder weather in NW Arkansas to make it even better for football

Man it’s hard to beat a Saturday morning with some coffee, my devotional and prepping some chili to throw in my crock-pot. Sitting around watching football all day with the smell of chili and a cold brew is my perfect Saturday.
I hope you have enjoyed living up there during this run we have been on since 2012, and laughed at the demise of their program. I always thought it was funny how entitled they got after Petrino built a paper tiger, and how they expected to be in the top 10 all the time. Not many fanbases worse than Arkansas.

Cherry on top was the dropped fly ball.

After I left State in the mid 80's , I probably didn't set foot in DWS for close to 20 years. I went to plenty of baseball games, my dad loved him some Bulldog and Braves baseball, and quite a few basketball games. In about 06 or 07, somebody gave a friend of mine tickets to a football game and he invited me. I was hooked, bought season tickets for the next year and you can count on one hand the number of home games I have missed since then. I will admit that in the past few years all the tailgating and prep has become more work and less fun. I too shall be in NOLA for the first game.

Go for a nice long walk and then Bloody's at the condo and usually start a

little grilling and get ready to watch the games on TV until we head out to tailgate for a couple of hours before kickoff. Sometimes we tailgate at the condo
and frankly that's pretty hard to beat in the forced air with a good drink and the grill rolling.

Have you lost your mind? Not sure if you just go off the grid, but I would be getting text messages from everyone about the game.

Also, it's 17n college football.. the greatest spectacle in sports... the main reason SPS exists and you're posting here.

Still go to at least 3 home games a year but in the 90’s and 00’s, didn’t miss a home game. The advent of big screen HD TV’s and wireless cable boxes have changed that. If I’m not going to our game and it’s late Sept/Oct/Nov and the weather is good, I set up a tent in my backyard, bring out a table, TV, tailgate chairs, have friends over and sit outside with a Bloody Mary at 11, switch to beer of choice during the afternoon, maybe some bourbon for night games and also light the fire pit once the sun goes down and watch games until midnight.
Will put on butt at 4-5 AM, grill burgers, smoke some wings, whatever is on the menu for that particular Saturday.
It’s the best of both, tailgating in my backyard and watching football without the drive, tk prices and crowd leaving the game.
Also will still go to a road game occasionally, ... this year is a lot different because of —- NOLA, Aub and maybe UT.
All great road trips and within decent proximity.

The 12-13 games we get each season have become the only TV time slots that I will fight my wife over getting to watch live. I used to watch around 100 Cardinal games each year, but I don't fight over those anymore (I catch them when I can, but it's no longer a must-see event).

You have to fight your wife over watching State football live? God bless you. I’m glad I married a fellow State grad who loves watching the Dawgs as much as me.

I’ve been season ticket holder for years. Mainly in the 80’s & 90’s some in the in 2000. Still attend a couple games. But being one of the white hairs here I’ve grown weary of the same crap. Winning 6-8 games a year and never actually even sniffing the playoffs is the killer for me. Watching the same 6-8 teams play for the championship every year and knowing we/MSU have NO real ability to play for championship has killed it for me.

Now days I’ll watch but find myself less interested. I’d rather be at deer camp, fishing or working around the yard. All the games are on TV and it’s much easier to watch in the comfort of home, air conditioning, my beverage of choice and no crowds. And outrageous hotel costs, when you can get one, Bulldog donations and ticket prices. Also tailgating was/is such a huge hassle. Even with the motor home.

I am flabbergasted that a few people on THIS board DVR the games in order to ride bikes or play tennis. Those are activities you can do any other time in the world, if you're into that sort of thing, which I am not and never will be...

There are about 45 hours per year of Mississippi State football to be watched. That's it. Usually it's on a Saturday afternoon or evening. I wake up early and complete whatever chores are on the docket for the day. I am done and in full football mode by 11:00 am to start the all day marathon of college football... except for the 1-2 Saturdays my wife drags me to something unavoidable, but I am always back at least an hour before our game starts.

As the game time approaches I still get nervous with anticipation. By kickoff I'm in full butterfly mode. I usually have the wife take the kids somewhere else during the game so I have no distractions and can freely cuss and throw ****. I will rotate between the back patio tv and living room based on the performance of the team that is obviously attributed to where I am watching... If we win, I scour every obscure CFB show until at least 2:00 am looking for a little highlight or mention of Mississippi State. If we lose I cut all TV's off and stay off SixPack for 24-48 hours because of the anxiety I get from having to relive the loss.

Anyhow I assume that everyone on this board takes a fall Saturday at least as serious as I do if not more serious than I do. DVR is for rewatching the games to breakdown plays and write the coaching staff about what they should have done. It has to be a damn big event or work related for me to miss a real time watching of the game.

I'm with you. Although I'm usually over the loss 5 minutes after the game.

This is the biggest thing in my book, and the genesis of my thread the other day about why play football. It's a legit concern.

I play college fantasy in 2 different leagues so if I'm not physically at the MSU game I'm pretty much watching college football from 11am to Pac 12 at night completes unless I have something else that I have to get done.

Where do you play college fantasy? I did it for a couple years with a bunch of MSU fans (organized through one of the message boards-247?) but most of the others lost interest in the first season. I've played pro fantasy a few times and never really liked it, but I really liked college fantasy.

Like many here, I was a season ticket holder a few years ago and went to nearly every home game. Now I make only one or two a year. Lately, I just set the DVR, while I go out and do something that interests me (camping, bike riding, etc.).

Does anyone else not even bother watching the games live?

I struggle, because I'd much rather be on my couch for games, but be able to be productive in the yard and around the house for the rest of the day. I'm probably the worst one on here as I always tailgate, and only go in sometimes. Often, even with tickets, I'd prefer to watch at the tailgate and avoid all the crowds and hassle. I guess it's age...

NOTE: I would be at home on my couch most games, and not at the tailgate, but with kids in school there their mommy likes to use tailgating as an excuse to see them.

For games in Starkville the routine is set up the tents (and all auxiliary items that involves) about 4 hours prior to kickoff. Light the grill, pop a top, watch Gameday, wander through the Junction, cook some meat, wander to the stadium just before kickoff for the game then wander back to the tents afterwards to clean up the mess that everybody left behind. Then sit around and cuss because traffic is at a standstill (AGAIN) and I've been at it for 8+ hours and still not at home yet. Sometimes it doesn't seem worth it but then I've done it so many years guess I'll never change.

For road games, I can't stand to watch us on tv, I'm too nervous and uptight. I will watch another game or work in the yard with a tv on the patio and listen to Matt and Neil Price (who I think is really good) on a headset and go watch the replay only if we make a big play. I haven't sat and watched one of our games on tv in years, just can't do it.

Speaking for myself...

We had an office league on Yahoo, and I also joined two random ones on Fantrax.
The office league was P5 only, and had a very different feel from the Fantrax ones, which were all of D1. For the latter, you had sooo many options.

I don't think either system was much better than the other. If anyone is thinking about starting one here, I'm in.

Good to hear! Out of curiosity, is there any chance that you know of to get a better deal than going straight to RecTec? $1200 seems to be the going rate for the Bull on their website, but I’d love to get under the $1000 mark if that’s even possible

I go to every home game, one road game and the bowl game if State is there. I love being in Davis Wade on game day. Nothing better in the world then hearing the roar of the crowd and the ringing of 60K cowbells.

I rarely watch an MSU game live from start to finish. Too long- too much to do.

If its a day game, there is a good chance I am riding gravel, at the barn watching my girls jump, outside working on the yard/house if weather is nice, or doing family activities like a pumpkin patch or weekend at a state park cabin.
I simply dont check the score and can watch the game without knowing whats happened. Its quite simple, really- and it makes me a lot happier because I can spend time with my family AND watch MSU in the same day.
I will pretty much always choose to go for a 60mi gravel ride and/or watch my kids jump versus sit at home alone during that time and watch football that could easily be watched later and in less time.

Night games are usually watched live though.

If I lived closer to 'Vegas, I would go to a few games each year for sure.

I have no idea how people do this. I am way too invested to not watch our football games in real time. That would drive me insane.

How are you invested? Like you are financially too invested to watch a game after it ends or to even start a game an hour into it and still finish it live?
Or are you saying you are too emotionally invested in a team you watch to delay the gratification of watching them?

I never heard of that either. Dude likes driving on gravel roads I guess, hell I dunno.

Sorry, I forgot where I was for a minute and used what is a relatively common term around me when it comes to outdoor activities and lifestyle.
Gravel cycling. Ride a bike on the vast network of gravel roads across the state. It's a thing.

Seeing that video reminds me of how much I loathe any form of exercising other than lifting weights.

I dunno why one would ride a pedal bike instead of a 4-wheeler or dirt bike. But, different strokes for different folks.

The mental and physical challenge.
The chance to explore and see areas from a different perspective.
The endorphins from extended exercise.
The satisfaction of accomplishing goals.
The fun of planning new routes.
The challenge of being relatively cut off from convenience.
The representative trance you can create.
The ability to not need private land to enjoy the activity.

I get that from a 30-80mi ride. I wouldn't get most/any on a 4 wheeler or dirt bike.

Agreed though- it isn't for everyone. Luckily there are other endurance activities like running, swimming, climbing, etc that allow others to gain similar experiences and benefits.

Oh, I don't actually think cyclists in Mississippi wouldn't know what I meant. I was absolutely being half demeaning and half with that response.

I wasnt trying to act innovative either, but I am ot really sure how one would act innovative in this regard, so if I was acting that way, it wasn't intended.

Related note- I'll be riding across Iowa next week and will rock an MSU Jersey one of the days. That's usually good for a half dozen extended conversation with random folks also doing the ride. There is always a group of Missippians who come up for the week as well as a handful of transplants from there who are great to talk with.
The Magnolia state has plenty of outdoor enthusiasts, I agree.

Some people want to live past 50. I damn sure would not do any of that during a Mississippi State football game, but who am I to tell him how to live his life? Like you said, different strokes. I hate running but if I don’t exercise my blood pressure gets high. I don’t want to have to take BP medicine for my entire life.

This may be the most depressing thread I have every seen on SPS.

If the school has any ties to these boards be that media or otherwise, this thread should be used to purge the board....but if this is still SPS "we're too cool"...well the bourgeoisie attitude about attending or viewing games is just about right.

Agreed there. Unless I was running to catch something or to not be caught by someone, I never found running interesting.

you run for the high of it. nothing morrrrr........ wait, 17 that. i have never ran unless it was to catch an icecream truck or to "run" to the store for more food. these people that say they love it and get a high out of it, i just don't get it. and i can tell you, i won't ever get it because i'm not running for fun. ESP if MState is playing any sort of game on tv. but i be damn if i give up a good fall football saturday to go run a 5k or whatever it is.

8:30am - bloody mary's. the earlier the bloody hits mary, the spicier it is
9:45am - mimosas with SEC GameDay or College Game Day. maybe a redbull/vodka.
11:30-1am - beer, vodka, maybe some fireball if we are beating a good team, and a cowbell, which my LSU wife just loves. her LSU father really appreciates it when i sit it in between us while we are playing. he used to hate my just regular bell, since i won that Battle Bell on SPS pick em a few years back, he really hates it. and i really love it.

Luckily for me, I get decent cardio from my job, and lifting weights is something I semi-enjoy doing. But just the thought of running for the hell of it exhausts me. I certainly understand the mental and physical benefits from running though.

Here, here. I get that everyone has different priorities, and that’s fine. However, if college football is one of your passions, you also have to recognize the fact that it’s over about as quickly as it starts each season.

Im with you in that I’m busy with all kinds of other things up until Sat morning, but once you get inside an hour of MSU kickoff, I feel like I’m 12 years old again and about to head to Disney world. Just nothing like it, and unless someone is dying, you can forget the DVR in my household
