Like many here, I was a season ticket holder a few years ago and went to nearly every home game. Now I make only one or two a year. Lately, I just set the DVR, while I go out and do something that interests me (camping, bike riding, etc.).

Does anyone else not even bother watching the games live?

We can talk all day about declining interest in attending the games in person, but waking up on a Fall Saturday morning to a Bloody Mary, college game day, and 12 hours of college football is still one of my favorite things to do on the planet. I probably haven’t missed watching more than 4-5 MSU games live in the last ten years

I usually have to tape 1-2 games I want to see (Auburn or such) due to social commitments or stuff coming up, and just flat never see 1-2 games (Abeline Christian or such).

11am games suck for when you go to a game, but more and more I like having them as a tv viewer. I realize how unpopular this opinion is.

The 12-13 games we get each season have become the only TV time slots that I will fight my wife over getting to watch live. I used to watch around 100 Cardinal games each year, but I don't fight over those anymore (I catch them when I can, but it's no longer a must-see event).

There's not many better feelings than waking up on a home Saturday in the fall knowing you're about to get to hang out with friends for 5+ hours. Just thinking about that first drink of the morning sends chills.......get me to GAMEDAY

I've mentioned it before here: going to games hasn't been fun for me for years. I used to visit the oldest friend I'd made when I was a student at MSU but then there was a divorce and my friend later left Mississippi.

The game day experience has also gotten to be a bit too much for me. I'm really introverted and there are times when I've been uncomfortable before, during, and after football games.

My fall Saturday routine. Get up, cook breakfast and start watching the Premier League soccer games my DVR has been recording since about 5AM. Start watching the MSU football game about 2 hours after kickoff (try to stay off social media to avoid spoilers), usually finish the game pretty close to the real time finish. I'll usually keep tabs on other games going on throughout the day and watch bits and pieces of them, but I really only watch the MSU game. I almost never watch any sporting event in real time on TV. I'll go to maybe a couple of games live, but the jumbotrons are a bit overdone and too loud, and usually the game drags out for freaking ever with commercial breaks and gets a little boring. Still enjoy it for the once or twice a year I get up there, but that is plenty for me. No way I'd want to go to every game like I used to.

I like one 11am game a season to have people over and drink some bloody marys and have breakfast tailgate food. Otherwise, give me the night games for TV. Cook on the egg during the day and then hang out with friends while having multiple TVs showing multiple games.

I have no idea how people do this. I am way too invested to not watch our football games in real time. That would drive me insane.

I play college fantasy in 2 different leagues so if I'm not physically at the MSU game I'm pretty much watching college football from 11am to Pac 12 at night completes unless I have something else that I have to get done.

The older I get the less and less I like being around large crowds. You just described a perfect fall Saturday. The only thing I’d add is steaks, a brisket/butt I put on the night before, or my wife’s chili. Plus an afternoon of Sam Adam’s Octoberfest.

I'll usually go out and do something else, maybe play tennis or something. But I'm not gonna lie, I often find myself checking on the real-time score while I'm watching it on DVR. And the bigger the game, the closer to live time I'll watch it.

Amen brother. Only thing I’d add would be firing up the smoker, and speaking of which... I’ve got to make a move this fall. My Masterbuilt has finally reached the end of the line, and I got by on the week of the 4th with my Weber, but it’s time for a new smoker.

I’ve been dying for a RecTec, and I just might talk myself into pulling the trigger this Fall

I maybe go to one game a year now. I find myself watching an entire game fewer and fewer as the season goes on. I get frustrated with the team and just can't watch so I change the channel to another game or go and do yard work and glance at the score and then come bck to it in the 4th quarter. I have found that my mental health has improved on most Saturdays.

Definitely! The Fall beer season is my favorite one of all, and Sam Adams makes a few of the absolute best. Truth be told, a normal ol’ Boston lager is pretty damn good during the Fall too

At age 77 I still love going to the games. My old tailgate group of 20 or so have died, in the nursing home, or no longer go. However, as long as I can walk from the parking lot and make the climb to my chairbacks I will be there.

I'm old enough to remember when the only way to get the game was listen to Jack on the radio. Rarely did we get T.V. opportunities.

Love football season. When we started coming on t.v., I used to love watching the games, particularly when they played in Starkville. Night games were the best.

Now I only listen to the radio for games during the day. Price does a good job and I can get stuff done without being glued to a t.v.

I will watch a night game after I've settled in. But if the announcers suck - and most times they do - I am syncing the game to Hail State Radio.

I don't think I could DVR and watch a game later. I gots to know!

Hell I remember when I was a student, the only way to watch State at Auburn was on some kind of bootleg payperview thing for $25 or so that the Starkville cable company threw together. And that was in 2003!

There is always something we as fans can do. I'd say all fans should at least attempt to go to one home game per year, and a road game if it is reasonably close to you.

Me personally, I cannot go as much I want to because of expense, kid sports, etc. So I choose to go to a couple of the OOC games per year or a lesser SEC game, which usually are cheaper and have smaller crowds. Last year I did ULL, La Tech and Arkansas. It satisfies the idealist in me because I feel like I'm helping put butts in seats in games where they are needed. Plus I like to see us win.

As far as a football Saturday, those are the greatest days there are, whether you go to a game, watch at home, or on a road trip. You simply cannot beat it. And I will always watch MSU, always live. To claim you do not care is simply self preservation for when we lose. If you didn't care you wouldn't be on this board.

I go to most of our home games and can count on one hand the amount of games I haven’t at least watched live on TV in the last decade. I will say that I don’t watch as many of other teams’ games as I used to and I rarely watch Gameday anymore other than the last 5 minutes to see Corso put on headgear. Got married and bought a house so there’s usually work to be done on Saturdays and I can’t spend the whole day on football most of the time.

I will say that living in Starkville is a big reason why I still go to most home games, if we didn’t live locally then I’d probably to 2-3 games a year at most. Living 5 minutes away from campus is a huge convenience no matter how the game plays out, and it allows me to get other stuff done at home before or after the game rather than taking up the whole day if I lived elsewhere.

I'm at every home game, so those Saturday's are planned around taking my family to the game. We don't tailgate very often - maybe once / year, but my inlaws live just outside Starkville so we normally stop there before or after the game to eat.

For road games --- I watch live on TV most of the time, but I don't set aside my whole Saturday just for football. I really don't get into watching anyone other than State anymore. I may watch another game if I'm completely bored, particularly an SEC matchup. But there's rarely any non-MSU game that I'll circle on my calendar and plan to watch. Don't watch gameday, don't watch the SEC version of gameday (whatever it's called), but will almost always watch the highlights late at night on SEC Network.

Agree on sitting down and watching intently, but football is ALWAYS background noise for me on a fall Saturday, no matter where I am. TV, radio, etc.

These is no feeling like the first Saturday of the year with real crisp, sunny football weather and heading out to tailgate and go to the game. It reinvigorates the soul.

I, for one, appreciate your efforts. I know there are a lot of jokes on here about blue hairs at one time or another, but one of my favorite perks of sitting in the West side chair backs is getting to talk to some of the older crowd about the teams from back in the day. A lot’s changed in 70 years, and some of the stories I’ve heard over the years have been just as entertaining as the game

I like going to games once to twice a year. Just cannot handle more than that. Kids, profession, and other things have made my leisure weekends a premium. And if I have 2-3 weekends during football
season I can “play”, I’d rather to marsh or the woods and then watch the game on tv. That said, I think I’ll be going more gradually the next few years as my kids get older.

Yea football is on all day on Saturdays when I’m not at the game. I gamble on games to keep myself interested in games that I normally would not care about. I watch a lot of games only in the 4th quarter and I find myself as nervous as I would be if state were playing over a relatively small amount of money.

That's because you are a true fan and not one who depends on others to support the university they are "a fan of". People that want to complain about our sports programs are probably the very ones who sit their lazy *** home on gamedays and don't support the program more than a $14.99 tshirt they picked up from Walmart.

You would rather go ride a bike than attend/watch MSU football? You probably take up the whole lane on that schwinn too don’t you? Pick your balls up son.

This was me from 1994 to 2006. We lived 10 minutes from campus and I went to every game until I got tired of Croom (I think it was after the Maine game).

Since I moved to Texas in 2007 I have only been able to go back for one game but our gameday is always fun. College football from 11 am till it all ends that night. We used to have a group of friends that came over but we have all moved apart so it is just the family now, but it is always a big day with MSU at the center.

I can't stand the 15-30 second delay between live stats and the ESPN3 stream (live stats will show up first, giving away what will happen). I wouldn't want to make that any more.

It wasn't a bad deal during the early days of Tivo when there were no live stats (or if they did have them they were minutes behind live TV and you had to be at a computer).

Living in Texas makes it a pretty big deal to go to more than 1 or 2 home games a year. Still enjoy the live game experience whenever possible. At home I record the game on the DVR and start viewing about an hour or so after kickoff. I do this for several reasons: 1) cuts out commercials and thus speeds up the game, 2) by-pass the idiots in the booth (not required sometimes), 3) if we are playing like 17, I can stop or speed up as required, 4) second guess the refs with instant playback, 5) able to check out the scenery in the stands.

Man it’s hard to beat a Saturday morning with some coffee, my devotional and prepping some chili to throw in my crock-pot. Sitting around watching football all day with the smell of chili and a cold brew is my perfect Saturday.
